We have been taking our dogs here for years. They take the time to get to know them. They do the exam at the dogs pace and the dog lets them know when they're comfortable to approach the dr. The staff is so welcoming and friendly!! We have had a total of 6 dogs treated. Two have been put down and Dr Lisa was amazing comforting the dog and us. That's important. I brought my cat in this week for her first vet appointment since we took her in off the streets. I picked Blaine Central Vet since it's close, had good reviews on Yelp and Google, and I loved their website information. I felt that Sushi (my cat) was well taken care of. The vet tech was great at handling her! My one concern is that she was taken out of the room for her shots and a blood draw. I was told she was not cooperative for the blood draw, which was surprising as she is so mellow at home, and I wonder if having me present at the time would've been helpful. I'm not sure if this is a normal vet practice or not. Dr. Oltman took his time answering my questions throughly and without any judgement. I felt listened to and confident in taking care of Sushi going forward. We also discussed follow-up visits, and some medications for her. I loved that she was prescribed a probiotic for her tummy issues. Regarding price, I do think this clinic is on the more expensive side. However, I was talked through the prices during the appointment and given a quote for upcoming procedures. I felt like the cost was very well communicated and I was given opportunity to object if I wanted/needed. Another plus was that we were taken into a room right away, limiting Sushi's nervousness and stress. I was also able to stay in the room to check-out after the appointment. However, it did take a long time to check-out after the appointment was over. I think I waited in the room for 20-30minutes. I want to believe they were just experiencing a busy moment, but I can't say for sure since I wasn't witnessing anything. This added time increased Sushi's stress, as well as my own. After the appointment, I realized they have an app that allows you to earn loyalty points. Things like visit costs and purchase of additional food/supplies count earn points and then points can be redeemed for food/supplies and even $$ off a visit. I would recommend signing up for the app at or before the appointment to earn points because I don't think they can be credited to the account after the appointment. (EDIT: at the next appt I asked to be back credited, and they were able to!) Sushi and I will be back. We feel lucky to have a great clinic in our city. read more

Because of new ownership, the cost to receive service has gone well beyond as what it should be. one of my favorite veterinarians left the clinic and I'm not sure why and they tell me they don't know where he went? We have had some pretty horrific experiences in the past so had been driving from Blaine to New Richmond for our cat's veterinary care for years. Since our boys were getting older and experiencing some health concerns, we decided to research local vets to try one out. Dr. Dana was so incredibly patient and empathetic when we had to go to a specialty clinic for a procedure that I wasn't feeling comfortable with. She helped talk me through options and help me understand what was happening. Fast forward a couple months later and our other (very healthy) cat suddenly got very sick. They got him in several times in one week without hardly any notice. Talked with me about options and realistic expectations. This was so important because we didn't want to put him through tests and procedures (or spend thousands) just for him to have to be out down anyways. They supported us through the worst week ever and let us come in within 10 minutes of opening on Christmas Eve when it was obvious that we needed to let him go home. Dr. Dan was so sympathetic and reminded us over and over that we were doing the right thing for our boy. We have found our forever vet. Today we got a card in the mail signed by the entire staff... maybe doesn't seem like a big deal (and probably time consuming) but gosh it makes a difference when you're hurting. Thank you Dr. Dan, Dr. Dana, Dr. Lisa, Megan, Heather, Brooklyn and the entire staff for how kind you were during a few really tough months with the cats we've loved now half of our lives. read more

I am very dissatisfied with this clinic. I took my baby in for diarrhea treatment. All they did was a fecal test, after fecal test and prescribed some meds. The diarrhea kept re-occurring and I kept calling for help. I expressed concerns over the drastic weigh lost and the fact that my baby stopped eating her kibbles. The person I talked to on the phone had the audacity to tell me that she had diarrhea once and lost 10 pounds. She also said if my baby was hungry, she will eat it, if not, don't worry about it, because puppy can go for days without eating. Really? My baby was in serious condition and she compared herself to my baby? After some discussion, we both agreed to feed my baby some rice porridge and chicken or hamburger meat for 3-4 days and then proceed with kibbles. After 2 months of repeated treatment, my baby lost all of her muscles and body weights. The primary clinic told me to take my baby to ER. I took my baby to ER as soon as I got the referral. The first thing they did in ER was a blood test, following by x-ray, and ultrasounds. The blood test confirmed that she was anemic. ER said some of the meds the primary clinic prescribed only masked the problem. The only meds that was good for my baby was the probiotic. My question is, why didn't the primary clinic do any blood tests? Why did they repeat the same treatment if it meds were not working? If the primary clinic had done the blood test, maybe we would have known earlier and took a more drastic, preventive measures in dealing with this overwhelming ordeal. If they were unable to handle the disease, why didn't they refer us elsewhere earlier in the process. I felt like I was left to fend for myself and my baby without the proper knowledge and without fully understanding the danger of anemia. ER did not find any other health issues beside anemia. There were no signs of blockage or blood leakage. They wanted to do more tests which costed me an arm and a leg. Before discharging my baby from ER, I asked for blood transfusion but ER said there were risks involved, her body could reject the blood and that blood transfusion was not needed. There was nothing anyone could do for my baby. I am so heart broken and will never recommend this clinic to anyone. While my baby was in her most critical moment, my only thought was to get a hold of the primary clinic and get help. When I got a hold of them, they said they were booked and could not see me. What kind of primary clinic is this? At my lowest point, and desperate moments, they said they were booked and would not see me then turned around and said they could see my baby on a drop off basis. I cancelled work and dropped off my baby. When they saw my baby, they told me my baby WOULD NOT SURVIVE OVER THE WEEKEND because her blood level was at 15. They suggested that I take my baby back to ER and do aggressive treatments. I cried so hard because in my head I already tried ER and she still had diarrhea. Upon hearing that she would not survive over the weekend, I called ER, I called my family. I decided to put my baby to sleep because we struggled for 2+ months and she suffered too much already. No one gave me any hope or provided any guidance or gave me any literature to help me understand the danger of anemia. After the cremation, they sent me a sympathy card for the loss of my baby but then turned around and sent me a letter dated 7/7/2018 saying that I need to seek another vet care provider and to stop calling them. Really? Your letter is dated 7/7/2018? After 13-14 years of services for 5 dogs, while grieving, they are telling me to f. off. I'm so done with this clinic. Words don't even describe the loss I experience. Never ever trust this vet. :( read more

As a first time dog owner, when my newly rescued puppy presented with some stomach issues and lethargy, I knew I needed to get her in somewhere quick. Blaine central vet was close to me and was open earlier then any other clinic nearby, so I gave them a call. Since then, my puppy has been to visit the vet 10+ times. I am SO HAPPY that this is the vet I landed on by chance. They are so patient and kind. My dog LOVES to go there and interact with the staff. They always take their time answering my many questions, they follow up with me regularly to check in on Luna, they explain all of the costs in advance before completing anything, and they are thorough in ensuring all of the appropriate documentation is shared with my pet insurance agency. Doctor Dan is the man! This is the third veterinarian I have used since moving to the Twin Cities and I am so glad I found them! Having previously worked at a vet as an assistant for over five years, I'm particular about what I expect from someone in whom I entrust the care of my babies. I expect service reminders. I expect that you will perform NO service on my pet without informing me of the service AND the cost. I expect that you will walk me through potential side effects of medications. I expect to be treated like a loving parent and not a hypochondriac owner (within reason). And I expect that you will be practical when it comes to the care of my babies. Check, check and CHECK. Doctor Dan and his crew consistently provide exceptional service and follow up. They are understanding of how a pet should fit into your life while providing tips on how best to manage your life for your pet. They provide callbacks following concerns, services and tests to ensure that your baby is improving/the treatment is working/the problem has resolved (a customer service trait that MANY other vets do not provide). Doctor Dan is not only thorough in his explanation and execution of care, but he is kind and calm with your four-legged friend. He even gets down on the ground while chatting with us to befriend and comfort our pup. For solid veterinary care, I don't believe that people should restrict themselves to their community or district. It's our responsibility as pet owners to provide the best care possible, even if that care is 30 minutes away. Doctor Dan is worth the drive! read more

Loved our experience here. Fitst off the place is open and clean and they give you a tour to see every part of the so you aren't worried for your pet! I loved that... Our dog Macy can get so excited around new people and the vets loved her and were so sweet to her. The staff was very informative and knowledgeable. And shared information in a way that we could understand. The prices were a little high but you are paying for clean and quality people and staff that are going to be dealing with your pet. I think that makes it worth it! They even called a few days later to see how Macy was doing and wanted an update on her - that meant a lot :) read more

I took my 20 year old cat here back in early Spring. My cat had been vomiting for some time, and after some testing they determined she had kidney disease and chronic pancreatitis. I was given some meds and a prescription for food. I was also told that because my cat was not vaccinated against rabies they would not see her going forward until I allowed them to give her a rabies vaccination. My cat is, and always has been, an indoor cat. I was told there's still a risk she could contract rabies inside the house (they mentioned a bat getting in....?), but my cat hasn't had a rabies shot for many years and has managed to not get rabies thus far. She has a better chance of winning the powerball than she does contracting rabies, in my opinion. I didn't feel my 20 year old cat, who was vomiting 2-5 times per week and on and off with eating food and drinking water, was well enough for a rabies vaccination. I was also informed by a friend who's been a vet assistant for over 20 years that giving her a rabies shot could do more harm than good. So I didn't do it. Fast forward to this month. My cat has gotten worse. I called this vet and was contacted by one of the Veterinarians yesterday regarding my cat. Though she was pleasant in answering my questions, she also told me they would not see my cat because she didn't have her rabies vaccination and that's their policy. It was VERY obvious their policy is of bigger concern than the animal. When I tried to address my concerns about giving my cat a rabies vaccination she said my cat "was well enough back in April but nothing was done so here we are". RUDE RUDE RUDE. Thank God I found another vet in the area who was kind enough and compassionate enough to help me with my cat. I appreciate policies, I do. And I understand the need for rabies vaccinations. But I also believe that there are exceptions. My experience with this clinic was horrible. And the vet I spoke with was completely out of line with her comment. There are many other places, better places, to take a pet to for care. The only reason I gave them one star is because I can't give a zero. read more
