We found a stray over Labor Day weekend, and when she went unclaimed we took her into BCAH the week after. We selected BCAH because they had online booking and were open after 5 - with our normal vet, for our two other cats, we have to wait and they don't have evening appointments. During the visit, we expressed that she was a very friendly stray with no known medical history. The vet: 1. Vaccinated the cat 2. Told us to look out for heat, as neither she nor the other vet could find any sign of spaying 3. Told us we should wait to spay the cat, even after I personally expressed I'd rather spay and be safe 4. Did not tell us that she could be pregnant or advise us of any risks related to pregnancy and live vaccines Fast forward a month, you guessed it, our cat was super pregnant. We took her back to BCAH as part of a vaccine booster and were told: 1. She was pregnant 2. She'd been vaccinated with live vaccines, endangering the kittens - but it probably would be fine! (In other words they massively downplayed the risk/their own screw-up) 3. It was "too late" to spay, but how lucky, they have referrals for a clinic that deals with birthing cats and a referral for a shelter specifically dealing with kittens! I spoke with my sister, who is a vet tech, that evening. She expressed outrage, both at the initial poor care/lack of informed consent, and at the claim it was "too late" to spay. So, we took her to our regular vet for a spay consultation and then for a spay 2 days later. It's been a week+ since her spay and she is recovering very well, and thank God, we don't have kittens to deal with. To advise us against spaying in September, fail to inform us the cat might be/probably was pregnant (recall that we told them she was super friendly, that we live in an area with lots of strays, and they couldn't find any sign she'd been spayed: I found out later that this means the cat is very likely pregnant!), and then provide us with no spay resources - to functionally lie, and lead us to believe "it's too late to spay" is an opinion most vets would hold - is totally unacceptable. This is a degree of malfeasance so serious I reported BCAH to the vet board of MN. I am disgusted with a vet practice that thinks nothing of putting at least 2 more kittens into an already burdened adoption system, that thinks kittens potentially having birth defects is no big deal, and that frankly had the nerve to charge us $45 for a visit where they admitted to serious mistakes. When I emailed BCAH expressing my anger at this poor treatment, they refunded me for both visits within 2 hours. But they did not acknowledge their mistakes nor apologize for them. These people should not be practicing vet medicine.

Dr. Blohm and the vet techs are really great with my anxious and reactive dog. Sometimes the appointments run late, which can be tough for us since our dog has trouble seeing other dogs when waiting in the lobby, but I appreciate that they take their time with their patients and answer all questions (which is likely why they may run a bit behind). They are also very responsive to email and phone calls, and I've been able to get a last minute sick appointment with no issues. I also really appreciate that they support behavioral medication, as I've heard some vets don't like to prescribe it, but it can be such an important part of the care plan for anxious rescues.

She was not all that helpful, did a skin scrape and the test came back negative for parasites thank goodness. The one thing she did not do was run a backlight over Nero for ringworms/roundworms. Also she was unable to give other solution but to put him on antibiotics. Also we saw them within a week's time frame and they still charged us a fee even though we asked if its a follow up. Since the antibiotics failed to help his skin condition, we decided to take him to another vet instead that was able to fight the cells that was causing his skin to scab and lose hair. Will not be returning to Best Friends :(

Doc charged us a little over $200 to tell us it's behavioral issues- no urine test, nothing. All he did was talk about her weight and a mat on her back end. He did prescribe antibiotics just in case it was a uti but he was 99% sure it wasn't- it was just behavioral issues. it wasn't a bladder infection or anything along those lines not to mention he didn't even test to see if it was a uti. She never got better. We trusted docs advice because he is supposed to be the professional here. So we brushed it off as behavioural issues , even though I just knew it was bladder crystals. Fast forward to three days ago and her condition got worse. She continued to strain while trying to potty in her box, urinating little pebble sizes all around the house, howling at night when she would try to go potty, the following morning we woke up to tons of blood in her urine. We called back and spoke to the receptionist voicing our concerns that she had gotten worse, not better and she said she would talk to the doctor and have him call back right away, we waited all day. A half an hour before they close we still didn't hear from them. So we had to call them at 5:30, a half hour before they close. I never received a call back, they were just going to close and ignore me. (we called right away in the morning.) Completely unprofessional. Then the receptionist said that it was a reoccurring issue and it would cost over $500 for them to see her again. This was on top of the $200 we already paid for him to say it was behavioral issues. What!? A reoccurring issue? The issue was NEVER resolved! Because he was too lazy and unprofessional to look close and see it was an obviously easy issue to find out with a simple urine test that he didn't even bring up. Today, we had to drive her all the way down to Eden prairie and wait in the emergency vet for 9 hours while they ran extensive tests, urine samples, x-rays, etc. We told the Eden prairie vet what happened at this vet and their mouths dropped. They couldn't believe that he didn't bother to run a urine test and my cat had to suffer for 3+weeks!!!! A simple 15 minute test came back that she was loaded with bladder crystals and sent us home with medications, pain meds, and a bladder crystals food. My cat suffered in pain for almost a month because these guys couldn't do their job. I have no idea why they have so many great reviews when they treat their patients so poorly. Not to mention when we told the receptionist there's no way we are paying $500 for her to be seen again when the issue wasn't resolved from the beginning. Doc was trying to say this was a the same issue but went away magically and popped back up. (uhmm... NO!) They didn't try to work with us, make things right, or anything! If you love your pet, do not come to this vet. There is a reason they always have openings for the very next day even in the middle of a covid crisis. Save your money and go to an actual reputable vet that CARES about the pet, not how much money they can make off you. Maryland Ave pet hospital should be ashamed of themselves! They should definitely be compensating me. But we all know that will never happen. I also have all the paperwork from both vets to prove my case. One more thing I'd like to add is that this is supposed to be a "low" cost vet, they are everything BUT low cost.
