Since they introduced the Keiser Spin bike in 2015 I have increased my Power/Watts/FTP by over 33% in less than a year (spin class watts was 200/220 Watts now 330/353 Watts per 45 min spin class) with a max Keiser display calorie burn of 800 - 880+ per 45 min spin class, I have learned how to recover in a very high tempo while on the road by using the spin classes. Every time I think I have peaked and it's impossible to get any more power I get a new number :) and because it's the gym it's not weather permitting and more consistent in the winter months which gives a better output for the new year as I can keep an eye on my levels in the spin classes. I Unknown to the instructors use different instructors for different aspects of my training for cycling, Katarina - technique(which gets extra watts for the same effort) and heart/cadence/power zones, Dave, Ryan and Mauraid - Power with huge watts for long periods(The Hurt House Class, help me to hurt others on the road), Alan - Cadence with Power Training, this proves it was within me to improve, I just needed someone to kick my ass pushing me to my limits while training to get me there, and while on the road cycling, I amaze myself with my well earned gains and I do say to myself while raising my bidon "CHEERS one escape", my only complaint is the spin room could be a bit colder and maybe a little more technical as I know the training staff have the latest know how to be, their list of qualifications go on and on" IMPRESSIVE". The gym equipment WOW, plenty & the variety is huge, you won't be waiting, EVER. Swimming pool, Sauna, Steam Room(probably the best in Dublin) and Jacuzzi are all excellent. A big plus is the management are very approachable & do listen, which is an art lost in modern times with businesses and their customers. I have been in this gym for many years so I know that the people who own it, reinvest and give me the impression they adapt to its customers as I do get the impression the P.T. make the decisions on the classes, so it's a case of the people who are in the know are making the decisions, I make this comment strictly from observation and experience. I know I am NOT a member of a one hit wonder. As far as the cost goes you have to ask yourself the question, do you want a hostel or the shelbourne hotel, at what level of fitness do you want to get, are you happy with being fit or do you want to be super fit, one escape gets 5* from me. Yes it's more expensive than the rest but when I look at my gains, "WELL WORTH IT" and an investment in my future health, my resting HR is now 45-50 at 43, it used to be in the 70's in the days of bad diet, smoking 30-60 a day and no exercise with XXL clothing in my early 30's and the belief on bad health, sure it only happens to everyone else. It's future is an ICON for Dublin, and a standard that other health clubs/gyms can only strive to try and achieve. If anyone knows of a better gym in Dublin I would like to know where it is because I have been around jumping in and out of them in Dublin city and I can't find one. Sure they get things wrong and make mistakes, the gym and staff aren't perfect but they are getting by far more things right than wrong.

Ok this is more of a 3.5 than a 3, but I have to talk about the reception staff here. Surely…read moreensconced within the 'receptionist' role, is a warm RECEPTION for your guests? Those who pay the bills? Each time I've come in here, I've had one gripe or another. Either they are too busy chatting amongst themselves to say hello or goodbye, or they're just not super arsed in being friendly. I get that they're busy, but this is not a cheap gym by any stretch of the imagination so it would be nice to be received with a bit more courtesy. I arrived today at 1.42pm to register for spinning class at 2pm. They say that registration opens 15 mins before each class, so despite being there and ready to go, the receptionist turned to another spinner and I telling us we'd have to wait to register. Now this isn't some high tech scenario on a computer that literally doesn't open til the set time - it's jotting your name down on a piece of paper. I would like to say in full disclosure that the receptionist was tending to someone else at the time, but if she had enough time to turn to us and tell us we'd have to wait til quarter to for signing our name, surely she'd have had enough time to pass us the registration paper. Thankfully which is what another staff member did, once he heard the comment from his colleague. It took him about 0.2 seconds to pass us the sheet. A bit of common sense wouldn't go astray in situations like this. I'm still a major fan of this gym and most of the staff so far have been great, but it would be great if there was a bit less of a "Computer Says Noooooo" attitude in here (What an episode that was!)

It wasnt really working, I was doing too much cardio and not enough weights so i was just staying the same shape and not really getting lean and toned. Plus it was soooooo boring!!!! SO with that I joined Evo fitness. The results really speak for themselves, I even cheated a fair bit on the diet and still lost weight (mainly around the tummy area) but what I was super happy with was the muscle I had gained. For once my dweeby little arms were finally getting some sort of shape, my legs looked great and my arse fit perfectly into my jeans. Some parts of the diet are hard but to be honest you need to be dedicated if you want to change, and if you dedicate to this YOU WILL! The team are AMAZING. Not only do they teach you, they make working out a really good laugh plus its only 20 mins each time. Who cant commit to that everyday? HIGHLY recommend everyone and anyone to give this a try! You wont regret it

Steph is a wonderful teacher, so patient, enthusiastic and highly qualified. Although don't repeat my mistake and wear a low cut top that will expose your girls to the class, I think I have scarred them for life. This is probably the best-equipped gym I have ever used for free-weights. They have 7 squat racks…read moreas well as two squat cages and because of this, even at peak times I've only seen them all taken twice after coming 3 times a week for 6 months. Even those times, I did not have to wait long for one to become available. They use olympic-style bumper weights and put one set next to each rack rather than mounting them on the rack itself, and this keeps them much more organised and these weights go down to 0.5kg. They have a wide variety of bars too. On top of that, there's a huge dumbbell area, strongman things like stone balls and tractor tires, all manner of steps and wedges to use while lifting and a pretty good selection of machines, most of which are plate-loaded, and they keep a bowl of chalk in the center of the main floor for anyone who wants it. They have a selection of benches too, including a few to use with the squat racks. Only one of the horizontal benches has a safety bar though, which is unfortunate as if you don't have a spotter watching you, it's something essential for benching at a work weight. One thing you can definitely say about the place is that it's a gym that focuses on lifting weights. They have cardio equipment too, such as a few treadmills, a stair machine, an elliptical and a bike, but they aren't the main focus like they are in most gyms, which suits me. The staff are all very friendly and run a tight ship, keeping the place in good order. You'll never see plates and weights left around the place in a mess like you do at a lot of other gyms. That said, I do think there is a small bit of room for improvement. The dressing rooms are very basic and the lockers are badly beaten and worn. The usual place to leave bags is instead under the stairs which is safe enough, but still a bit messy and awkward to get into. They don't directly employ any trainers so if you want someone to help you with a program or personal training, you have to hire one of their outside guys which costs extra (whereas a lot of other gyms will have someone on staff to give you a training program for free). The car parking is also a problem as they only have a small bit of space and people often have to park places that aren't actually parking spaces.

I think the 80's threw up on this GYM and it was unfortunately never cleaned up…read more As someone who suffers from "spurts" of getting fit I have been a member of about 6 GYM's over the years [it had been about 5 years since my last health kick had happened however] and this is hands down the worst I have ever experienced on so many levels. SO MANY. I bought a Living Social voucher for Phibsboro GYM online. At the time I lived beside the GYM so even though I heard it was a bad GYM it was close and it was €59 for 3 months full membership. As Ina Garten would say "How bad could that be?" ..... REAL BAD When I signed up the girl I dealt with was very pleasant but I had to ask for a GYM assessment with the personal trainer. It wasn't offered. From my experience of GYM's you are not allowed to start until you have had an assessment. I am presuming for health and safety reasons and out of general common sense for a new member to be treated in a certain way. The assessment. What can I say about that? 2 days later I headed down for my assessment and the guy I dealt with was also manning the reception and appeared to be inconvenienced having to show me what to do. Not once asking me what specifically I wanted to get out of this. He was showing me on their VERY OLD and BASIC equipment what to do as quick as he could so he could get back to his desk and would leave me and I had to go find him after each set I was doing on various machines and equipment. He then said he had no more time to show me what to do as he needed to shut up shop. You'll have to come back to get shown other things he said. Not once was anything written down. DAFUQ? I was also never shown the changing rooms or the rest of the GYM. Just the 2 rooms I appeared to be inconveniencing this "personal trainer". Now I am not sure if me having a Living Social voucher affected how I was treated. If that was the reason then they are not doing anything to encourage people to stay after their 3 months is up. Either way I went about 5 times after that and just used the cross trainer and threadmill and NEVER went back. I have another 6 weeks left on my membership and I would rather chew on wasp then step foot inside the place again. AVOID
