I have one 3 year old who slept the most comfortably on me for the first 1.5 years and one 11 month old who has pretty much slept on me since birth. Basically my back has been telling me wth for almost two years now. So for one of my me time breaks I decided to book myself a massage. Now, I've been hesitant about massages since the only ones I truly like are the ones at chiropractor offices. I enjoy a good strong deep tissue and hoped that Fabi could do the trick. All my life I prided myself on my posture, but the after kids me wasn't feeling so, well, straight. The upper middle of my back felt crushed and I almost swear I was hunching. Fabi's place is located in Jolie spa - basically you drive all the way down Whitewood (which by the way is a nightmare of a street to go down during school drop off/pick up) until you see almost like a random building. That random building has the very small and modest Jolie spa in it. Fabi has a great personality, super fit and tiny and the moment she started working her magic, I knew that it was going to be an hour of back workout. No, seriously. I told her to go all in with the pressure - she understood the assignment. My pain tolerance is pretty high and there were times where I almost told her to ease up, but I hung in there because I felt like she was really moving and smoothing out years and years of kid abuse to my back. I told her after the massage that it was like running to me - there were so many times I wanted to give up because it was hurting, but the hurt was so good and I knew the outcome was just going to benefit me. And thank goodness it paid off. Every last minute of it. I could instantly breath better, felt lengthened and straighter. Sure I was a little sore, but it comes with the great work she did. The next day I went for a run and felt amazing. Fabi books up quickly, and it's no wonder. When you find a good therapist that knows how to channel her strength, you keep them close! I had not received any message beforehand letting me know that she had decided to leave or that my appointment had been canceled. I reviewed my original appointment emails and text reminders afterward and couldn't find anything stating that same-day confirmation was required or that an appointment would be canceled if I didn't respond by a certain time. Had I known that, I obviously would have made sure to respond sooner. I completely understand wanting to avoid no-shows, but I don't think it's reasonable to cancel a scheduled appointment before its start time without a previously communicated confirmation policy or notifying the client that the appointment has been canceled. The voice replied. "How much?" I asked. $50 the voice replied. When we arrived, they brought my friend back first into one room, and they asked me to go in there, not knowing we are friends, and I pointed to my feet and said water, hot water. There seemed to be some confusion, but they brought out a bowl of relatively lukewarm water. Then instructed to go into the room and asked to this robe, I did so thinking perhaps my experience in Los Angeles County must be different than protocol here in Riverside County. I did as instructed, though feeling a bit uncertain what followed could only be called an interpretation of what acupressure or a massage is supposed to be, and had approximately two measured cups of oil put on my back, kind of feeling like I was being based like a turkey. It only took a few minutes, and I knew there was no knowledge of acupressure or human anatomy for all intent in purposes. And leaving they changed the rate to $60 per person instead of the original 50, he indicated tip for her tip for me, so I put $10 for each to avoid confrontation, and to get out I could sense the pressure and it wasn't the physical kind needed on my feet. I don't know if these are the only two employees, but if there are other others, it would not surprise me that they would demonstrate the same lack of knowledge as the two that overcharged and hurt us.
