Sunday, I visited the Omaha store and was looking for a canvas and was not finding the size I was looking for. When I asked for help in finding an alternate size I was told "Art is a very personal thing". OK, I get it but are there optional canvas sizes that could meet my need? We are talking an art supply to create art not art. When I tried to explain why I was looking for help and that I had driven al long way, the cashier evidently didn't like my tone of voice and became defensive and I was told I shouldn't talk to her that way (what way?) and I should leave. I had a purchase I had bought the previous day with me and I didn't think would work for me, so I said I soon as I got the credit I would leave the store. I was then told by the cashier that the staff was just minimum wage earners paid to cash out customers and had no knowledge of art or art supplies. (salesperson 71700). She handled my return expediently and I left. Unfortunately, given my treatment, I doubt I will ever return to the store and its going to be tough to continue to refer other people there. Historically I had found Blick to have a good selection, reasonable prices and most of all, helpful staff. Other note: Recently, I had an error involving an online order (dickblick.com) where an item was missing. I called and the customer service was great. Could not of been happier with how service was provided. BTW last Sunday Michaels was able to help me with the canvas. However, I could have stayed in Lincoln and shopped at Michaels, I didn't need to drive to Omaha. Interesting enough, the order I made at Michaels was shipped to me from no other than Blick Art Materials. How ironic. read more

I would give this store a 5 because the inventory is the best you're going to find in the Omaha area, but I've always found the service to be lacking and the staff not terribly informed on the products they sell. Myself being someone in insurmountable debt due to a partial fine arts education, I can at least figure out art supplies by myself. For someone who is just starting out in their art voyage, or a person looking for a gift . . . Ugh, they might be in for a bit of a rigamarole. I suppose I worry more for an artist on their maiden voyage, because artsy stuff can get needlessly snobby. It's a turn off. Here's a good thing: at one of the checkouts (not both, and heaven forbid the staff notify you) you can take a free sample, and now I'm ready to cover something in yellow oil paint. read more

Can't say I've ever had a bad experience at Blick. In fact, it's a really fun store to wander around, looking at all the art supplies and quirky trinkets and gifts. I was in here because I needed a canvas, easel and some fancy markers. I found everything in a matter of minutes, thanks to the helpful staff. And they even reactivated my Blick card from my college days to help me snag a 10% discount! Nice! Even though it's a chain, Blick is hands down Omaha's best art supply store. And I'll continue to go here when I fell I'm in the midst of a creative outpouring and need some supplies. read more

The other week I finally took a watercolor class I've been eyeing for a year. I LOVED it. Yes! Next, I needed my own supplies to foster this hobby. Today I stopped into Dick Blick and a very friendly guy, Frank, said hello right as I opened the door and asked how he could be of service. Typically, I get overwhelmed in stores with lots of items and lots of colors and options... but he helped this novice (moi) find exactly what she was looking for. (I'll stop talking in third person now.) In mere moments, I had my Windsor Newton travel palette, 2 brushes and the exact kind of paper I wanted at his check out lane. And after signing up for their preferred customer "thingy" (that's a technical term) my total was $47. $47!!!! :)))) Do you KNOW how pricey Windsor Newton is??? One perusal of Amazon told me to expect to pay at least a few hundred dollars for a starter kit, brushes and paper. So, yeah, this was a good thing. Come check it out. read more

I love this store and go at least once a month. The selection is very good and the service is top-notch. The only place I've found a better selection and prices, honestly, is their online store, but it's a whole lot quicker to go to Blick Art Materials in Omaha. Plus, if you buy enough to get free online shipping, they match all the online prices. Impressive! read more

I was really excited to get out and do some art supply shopping and my first choice was Blick. However, they do not supply wheelchairs or a place to sit and I had to leave before I could buy anything. It's not required to have either of these things, but I would love to have the accessibility so I can shop here. That being said, from what I saw, they have the best variety of art supplies around. I have tried to do business with the Omaha store twice now to purchase an airbrush and paints. I am new to airbrushing and was hoping to go to an "Art Supply Store" and find some expertise on the subject. My first visit I asked a few questions and the salesperson told me that maybe I should go online and learn more about airbrushing before coming into the store to purchase equipment and paint. I might as well went to Walmart or Hobby Lobby if I wanted no help. This morning I went and was going to purchase some 20 bottles of paint and was told that they won't match online prices that are on their homepage and I would have to order online to get that price. Otherwise they would match prices not on the homepage and charge me the shipping fee on top of my purchase. Are you kidding me? The product I would be purchasing doesn't have to be shipped so therefore not a cost incurred by the store. I asked to have a comment card and was told they don't have any and of course no manager to be found as they are out for an extended illness. Somebody has to be running the show!!! read more

A trip to the art supply store hearkens back to childhood for me, and wandering the aisles can quickly become pretty expensive when you don't have parents to reign you in... but they have everything you'd want here when it comes to supplies. Paper, canvas, media, tools, storage containers, brushes, etc. If you're a student or teacher be prepared for a nice discount as well. Otherwise, pick up one of their frequent shopper cards. I believe they cost $10 but will quickly pay back if you shop here more than once a year. read more

I am gifting my friend a painting on her wedding, and Blick was a one-stop shop for all the art supplies I needed. The staff is excellent. The lady spent a lot of time understanding what is it exactly that I needed, and helped me to find exactly that. She was patient enough to answer all my questions, not once but on two separate visits. They have a range of art supplies at their store-starting from very high quality expensive stuff, to inexpensive supplies for beginners. You also get great discounts if you have the Blick card.
