Customer service there shines. Find an associate, they are everywhere. Ask them for help and they lead you to where the product is kept. If you want to know how to use it, don't worry they will take the time to explain it. This is my absolute fave art store in the city. They have an online shop as well but I like coming into the brick and mortar to grab my supplies. Excellent selection of canvases, brushes, paints in addition to all different mediums. They don't have a ton of pastel options but they carry Sennelier and a Blick brand along with a couple others to span the spectrum. I always feel at such peace and in my element every time I'm at Blick, grateful that we have a physical location in SLC where you can come and grab stuff or check it out in person. The team is awesome, really great vibes and overall prices are competitive and fair against online prices. They also run promos all the time if you sign up for email etc. so you can't go wrong. Love that they have a fantastic selection available for professional artists but also everything across the spectrum for beginners and intermediate exploration as well. Don't be fooled by its size, this little place is stacked floor-to-ceiling Harry-Potter-library-style with magical, best brand, every-flavor-bean art supplies. They aren't f*uckin' around. This store has got what you need if you're a serious or aspiring artist. I work in many mediums and have never walked out of this shop without what I needed and even more of the stuff I didn't yet know I needed. It seems like I always learn something new here, find a tool I haven't used before, or find the things I've been looking to purchase again for years but couldn't find them anywhere else. High pigment oil paints? Obvi. Those little tiny eraser pen refills? Got 'em. Powdered charcoal? Yes. Liquid charcoal? Absolutely. 10 different kinds of vellum? Canvas stretching supplies? Bougie ceramic glazes? Check. Check. Check. The prices? Art store prices. Michael's and Hobby Lobby will charge you just as much for half the quality and a small fraction of the selection. (Ew) The staff? They've always been friendly and helpful with me. This place has always been busy when I went in, from what I can tell the cashiers work quickly. The COVID precautions? Blick flexes their customer skills here, too. They pay someone to stand in the doorway and monitor the number of people in the store, and kindly let you in when the number is back down. During peak times like this, they limit people to 15 minutes of in-store-time so they don't leave people outside forever. AND the counter gets a wipe down between each customer. Perfect store! Helpful staff! Everything you need! Good prices! I needed gifts for my young daughter and I know nothing about art or art products. Even though it was Saturday and they were busy, they were able to help me pick out some things for her. There was a good range of prices, from cheap to pricey, so you can get what you are looking for. I was also super impressed with the way they handled COVID regulations! They limited customers in the store and asked you to limit your browsing time, though no one was in there making you hurry. All the aisles are marked as one way since they are small. They clean the counter and common areas frequently. I felt safe shopping there. read more

I really love this art shop and it is a shame I never came in here sooner! It is so close to me, I could walk here if I wanted! Except I usually take my dogs on walks with me and don't think they would be allowed in here. The pricing is on point and I'm going to end up returning calligraphy stuff to Joann's since Blick has so much better pricing than Joann's does, on certain things it at least does. They have classes upstairs at the Peterson Art Center which I thought they were the same store because they are located in the same building but they are separate! You can grab a list for the classes they host at the bottom of the stairs, or as soon as you walk in the door from 2100. This building has three floors. When you walk in your on the middle level. I didn't go downstairs or upstairs and the art supply was huge. The employees were all very helpful as well. I'm getting on in years (50). I studied art back in the day and got my degree in art education. I'm from Indiana and only shopped at Blicks for my art supplies. Back then there wasn't much else around. Fast forward and we moved to utah 7 1/2 years ago. I haven't been in a high end art supply store in 15 years. I lost my passion for art and felt like I had no creativity left in me. By chance I decided to google Blicks and lo and behold! It was a gift from the heavens! No clue what the bad reviews are about, as I've had nothing but fantastic experiences with this location, as well as the staff. I have two other go-to Blicks: one in Hollywood, one in Pasadena. While this location is definitely on the small side, especially compared to Pasadena, I can't deduct stars for that because, um... look at the difference in locale. That said, it's been fairly rare that I've been unable to find what I need in store. Their canvas sales are absolutely fantastic! In fact, they've actually TOLD ME about sales I didn't realize were happening. Another plus: I often send other people to get supplies for me. I would never do this in a store (especially an art supply store) that lacked a knowledgeable staff. While I'm specific on brand, there have been several times I've gotten calls asking me if I wanted X vs. Y based on a question an associate has asked, just to make sure it's right if two products are close, but not identical. That's awesome. Have you any idea how often people simply don't care? That's pretty cool if you ask me. I love Blick & happily give them my business. I use a number of mediums and this is the one place that stocks the best variety of products in store. If you don't want to go in store, there's always their website. Simply put? If there's a better art supply store in salt lake or park city, I've yet to find it. Exchanges/refunds for credit after receiving gifts has never been an issue. (I do credit because I know if I don't need something that second, it won't be long until I do.) Whether you're a student or professional, Blick is easily your one stop shop. I discovered them in art school back in San Francisco & I've loved them ever since. Only thing I'd change: they need to be open on Sunday. My Saturdays are usually insane enough & Sunday is ideal for shopping. I know, I know. A tiny store but the selection is very choice. And I find the staff to be rather serene and open-always willing to help and guide. Maybe it's because they are right under an art school. It's lovely to walk in to quietude from the bustling white noise of a major street too. I come here for paint as they have the best selection. Great place to get fine art supplies as well such as papers, brushes, and pens. Their selection of fine paper never fails to enchant and bedazzle me. Just gorgeous! The one thing about this fine establishment that really bugs me are the hours. Very conservative-practically religious. I am a wild midnight painting demon that hardly ever seems to get divine inspiration any time before 9pm on a weekday. Although Utrecht is a smaller store their selection is anything but. They have just about anything an artist could want whether they work with oil or watercolor, clay, or colored pencil. Not only does Utrecht carry their own brand of good quality papers, paints, and other art supplies, they also carry top-notch supplies from many other manufacturers. Beyond offering supplies this location also has an art school where they teach a variety of art classes from painting to wheel thrown ceramics. read more

In turn,​ I left a negative feedback for the store with the idea I would never return. I didn't think I would get a response. I was wrong. The manager, Paul Rock, treated me better than I probably deserved. He kindly and patiently explained in a long and detailed email about what the situation was. Customer service is not dead! I appreciate​ Paul taking the time to address my concerns. Their staff really is eager to help. They have a great selection at​ a competitive price. I look forward to shopping there again. Make no mistake despite what you may be told in the store or what some of the reviews here say a preferred customer card does not get you price matching with the Blick website. A couple weeks ago I looked up some items online and then purchased the same items at the physical store, the price was about 30% higher than I expected. I was told that this was because shipping costs had to be factored in - fair enough perhaps but by no means price matching. Today I returned to the store after looking up some items and making sure that I was exceeding the minimum order for free shipping ($35 today). The website price was $58.96 - my price in store was $68.59. Again, price match not in effect. This is a nice store with reasonable prices but this specious price matching claim does not tend to induce joy. read more

Great little art supplies store in the heart of Sugarhouse. Came here for some photo matte for my boyfriend's photography final project, and left with that among many other great supplies. I bought a ton of acrylics, because I remembered how much I love and enjoy painting, and I've never seen such an extensive collection of paint for sale. Everyone in his class was asking where he got the matte for his photos, because his was nicer and better quality than whatever the other students purchased. The staff here is very friendly and helpful, and I was impressed with each person who I spoke with here's knowledge of everything. Blick's has a guarantee to price match and even sell for less than the competitor's prices, which is awesome, especially with how many students on a budget are in here all the time. read more

This kind of place is a danger to me, as just in paints and brushes alone, I could spend hours, gazing and drooling, until they eventually shoved me out the door (and perhaps into traffic, depending on the drooling mess, probably). I saw a set of stairs going up and down by the front door, but no idea what's at the end of either. The main floor was almost too much for me. I came for polymer clay, which I didn't even know was a thing, but tv consumption of the youth these days is largely YouTube and my son found some nifty videos about creating different animated characters. It took some time to figure out what the material was, particularly since I didn't know it existed prior, but after getting some, the properties are pretty interesting...and quite a lot of fun, I must say. That aside, selection here was stunning and the environment was total artist. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable and despite spending a lot more time here than I meant to do, I still can't tell you even half of what was there, which means inventory and selection was also stellar. I didn't see many empty spaces, actually, which is remarkable considering all the SKUs I walked by. Much of what I saw was quite a bit over what I wanted to spend, particularly since I'm not a sculptor and my son is at the very front of this adventure, so who knows there, but most of those tools and such are one-time purchases, so a little expense not that big of a deal, particularly when carrying all that inventory must have an incredibly overhead. I didn't look at brushes or paints, mostly because I didn't want to walk out with a bunch of them, but perhaps on some future excursion. I don't know how you would do a store of this type better and all in all, this was a stunning experience. read more

I will start with access. If you have mobility issues or a physical disability, the stairs prevent you from accessing the building. I think there is an expectation of calling/ringing the staff to be let in the back entrance. The next issue is help. We went into the store and were not greeted nor did anyone ask if we needed help. We were there for at least 10 minutes. They sat at the checkout talking to each other. There were only 2 other customers, also not being helped. Even at checkout, we were not greeted. The staff person just started ringing us up. We found what we wanted on their website, called to confirm they had the items, only to arrive and find them marked at a significantly higher price than their own site. With the availability of good quality art supplies online and in other stores, we will likely not be back. It is disappointing because we prefer to support local. read more

I am a local artist, studied fine art at the u of u, and have been shopping there religiously for 20 years (or the Utrecht that was there before). A male employee today stopped me, asked what I was shopping for and a number of extremely rude and accusatory question and kicked me out of the store with no further explanation. I have never been treated with such rudeness and disrespect for simply shopping eagerly at my favorite store. Being a full time artist, I have been all over the Salt Lake valley to get art supplies. Utrecht is the one place that has just about everything I need, and it is all reasonably priced. If you are in the market for art materials, Utrecht should be your first stop. There are few places that have as many products as Utrecht...and if they don't have it, it is likely they can get it. Their oil paint (Utrecht brand) is a good bang for your buck. Good quality at a great price. They also have great brushes. The staff is friendly and helpful...but not too helpful (they won't bother you if you want to be left alone.) For the Salt Lake valley...you don't find better...at least I haven't. read more

I went to Utrecht to buy mold making supplies, since they are the ONLY retailer of Smooth-On brand products in the state, according to the Smooth-On website. As it is, it's about an hour drive from where I live. They were completely sold out of what I needed (silicone mold rubber). They told me that they could order more... but it would take 2 or 3 weeks! Again, they are literally the only place to buy it within 400 miles, and they don't keep it well stocked. So I bought an inferior product (a non-silicone based rubber). Nobody in the store knew almost anything about it--not how to use it, not how it would turn out, not how to make it work well. One person said they thought it would *probably* need a release agent as well. But guess what else they had none of? Release agent! And nobody knew anything else that would work as a release agent, or where I could buy any. So I spent more money than I should have, for a product that I didn't want, that only worked in conjunction with another product that they didn't have and couldn't replace. And I had no other options. What a total waste of time and money. I unsubscribed from their email list, since I won't need any of their "deals." I'll never shop there again. read more

For an art supply store in as big of a metro area as Salt Lake, this store is weak. WEAK. They have such a poor supply of materials. Seems every time I go in looking for what I use, they either don't carry it (they'll say, it's online) or they are out of stock. I will say the staff is friendly, somewhat knowledgable but there it ends. Last week, Blick sent me a 40% off any in-store non sale item. (that right there is a joke). I tried to find what I wanted, an RF Paint stick. Course "we don't carry it". I found something else, not on sale, listed at 53$. The coupon wouldn't work. After calling the manager up, we see that on the price tag, in tiny print, it says MSRP $93, so the coupon won't work. Now, everyday of the year they sell that item for $53, ITS NOT ON SALE, but since they mark the MSRP different, you're screwed. Games they play, how silly. Blick sucks. To do this to their customers is a slap in the face. Here is a coupon, good luck using it on something over $3, cuz we'll mark a msrp price higher, even though it's not on sale, just so you can't use our worthless coupon. I called Blick, expressed my disgust, was told "someone in pricing" will call me back, nada nope, no luck. they don't care. Never buy from Utrecht/Blick again. Sorry, it's the principle of the matter. Taylor, I was contacted, I appreciate hearing Blicks side, but you made my point. I wouldn't shop here unless I had to get last minute supplies, like for that art class you went to for the first time and needed to get all the supplies within a day or two. Even the Sharpies are marked up something like 50% compared to an office supply store. Ridiculously overpriced with only a marginal selection. Unfortunately this is one of the few art stores, excluding Michael's which is a crafts store not an art store, in the state of Utah. It makes me miss the huge, reasonably priced art store near my hometown with long rows of just pencils, brushes, markers, sketchbooks, etc. Shopping online is generally the best option for ordering more than a couple of items.
