I loved this toy store! Unlike many toy stores I've been to this one had a nice selection of toys for babies under 18 months. They also had habas brand and manhattan toy co which are usually made in USA or Germany. God my son a Brunder Brand UPS truck- this brand is pricy but it's a high quality toy I love that the pieces can come apart and go back together. Lots of high quality plush animals as well, got my daughter a plush puppet cow- and a baby rattle/teething toy as well as a fisher price toy radio. Great deflection of puzzles as well. There was magnetic geographical puzzles which I never saw anywhere else also tons of 500 and 1000 piece puzzles to pick from. Extremely nice people working here too! read more

I am a nanny, so I like to take the kids here to pick a "treat" (that isn't sugar or junk food!). The owners are soooo friendly, welcoming and no-pressure people. What really impressed me was the alphabet blocks in Arabic, Hindu and French! When I complimented the owner on carrying these items, he replied that he valued inclusion, and that is so commendable! We always find something that gets the kids excited for a reasonable budget. Also, we have a "no guns" rule in the house and there isn't a single item in the store that could be perceived as a gun (poppers, launchers, etc instead of "gun"). So impressed! We make the hour drive to visit the Tutoring Toy any time we need to buy toys and gifts for our nieces or nephews (and, let's face it, for us too...they have a great lego and tabletop game selection). Best toy store on the planet! We left my daughter's stuffed animal a duck there one day on accident. When we returned to see if they still had it a few hours later they not only had her duck they had fixed his eye and foot!!! My daughter (now nearly 5) has had that duck since she was born... I was nearly in tears over their beautiful jester! We have made it our goal to buy all our toys from their shop ever since! This is my go to toy store for kids' birthday parties, my own kids' birthdays, Christmas and small items to keep a trip sane with children. The owners are always present and very kind and helpful. The store is small but packed with all sorts of toys. As others have said, they are light on all the plastic toys instead stocking the store with toys that expand imagination and brain function. I've had terrible luck with toy stores in SLC as they tend to stock nothing but overpriced plastic for boys and pink nonsense for girls, but Tutoring Toy has solved my problem. I was seriously impressed by the great robotics toys and science kits. When my nieces/nephews are a bit older, I'll be stocking up! My husband & I stopped by Tutoring Toy for the first time tonight in search of a birthday gift for our young niece. I'm so glad we decided to check this place out. The staff here are all so wonderful. A kind gentleman pointed out a few popular items & then left us to browse the store, which is loaded with tons of unique toys & crafts for kids. When we approached the check-out counter, he & another female employee complimented our selection and offered to wrap it free of charge! (& it looked great when she was finished!) Very cool little toy spot tucked away in the Foothill Village. Like Red Balloon, they're light on all the mass-produced junk clogging the aisles of Wal-Mart and Toys R Us and instead have a collection of unique toys, several of which appear to originate in Europe. I'm all for this "making the world smaller" business, without compromising the spirit, integrity, flavor and authenticity of the things (including some of those old and well-worn traditions) that make us different and if they elect to do it through toys, more to the good. There are gobs and gobs of neat things here, so much so that trying to take it all in, given how crammed to the nook this place is, would take some major doing. I personally give a slight nod to Red Balloon (mostly due to location and layout), but the staff at both places are caring and wonderful and either/both fantastic local places deserve your (and my) business. I love this store. I haven't been in it in years but stopped by because i wanted to find something different than what one could pick up at wal mart or target. The staff was friendly and not overly attentive which can really annoy me about some smaller independent shops, when they stand right behind you the entire time hanging over your shoulder. Anyways, i found that they had a lot of really fun and unique toys. Some things were pricey but in my opinion thats to be expected however there are lots of items in various price ranges. I even saw things that were around when i was kid and im in my 30's now. They have a large selection of playmobile toys which brought back some memories as well as lots of fun experimentational things that i would have loved growing up. I wandered in the store today to find something to entertain my one-year-old son on a long car ride and Bill helped me pick out the perfect toy and gave me some great information about toys for my son without being pushy.
