Peggy's help was life changing. If you're having any doubts, stop. Just give her a call. I was…read moreabout to give up on breastfeeding, but because of Peggy, I'm still breastfeeding 4 months later (happily and pain-free to a chubby baby). She helped us through a phone call, in person visit (pre-COVID), and video consult. My induced labor ended in an emergency C-section. On top of that, I was separated from my daughter because she had to go to the NICU. This complicated my ability to breastfeed even more. We are first time parents, and came home with little to no instruction from the hospital. I was not producing enough milk for my baby and she was crying of hunger. I was also severely engorged. It was a difficult first week home. Out of desperation, we searched online for a lactation consultant. After contacting 3 different people, Peggy was the most helpful over the phone. She took her time on the call and offered advice for my engorgement. We immediately felt her kindness, compassion, and empathy. I followed her instructions over the phone and was able to resolve the engorgement! Now onto breastfeeding... Although the engorgement went away, I still struggled with getting a good latch and scheduled to have Peggy come for an in home visit. Peggy was able to identify my baby's tongue and lip tie (even though the pediatrician at the hospital said my daughter didn't have either). Once we got her lip and tongue tie removed and followed all her breastfeeding advice, my baby started gaining a LOT of weight. A few weeks after the home visit, I was still having some difficulty getting a consistently good latch and I would feel pain when breastfeeding. Due to COVID-19, we did a video consult instead of an in-home visit. Peggy was able to help me manipulate baby and myself in a better position to help with the pain. She would help me visualize the proper way to position myself and baby by demonstrating her props and baby doll. It was awesome to get help in the comfort and safety of my home! I know it sounds impossible or not nearly helpful enough, but a video consult can work perfectly fine during these difficult COVID times. It is definitely better to get help in a safe way than to go through this journey alone. I would recommend Peggy over and over again. She truly cares about her clients. She follows up and provides plenty of information to make sure you have the information to keep you and your baby happy and healthy.

Upon coming home from the hospital, we noticed that our baby didn't pee as much. And when he did it was accompanied with orange/rust crystals on his diaper - a sure sign of dehydration. That's when we started to panic. I thought my son was getting enough milk because I was bfd'ing on cue. At this point, my nipples were raw and I was hurting a lot. My baby was born Tuesday, I look at Lactation Consultants on Yelp and found Peggy. I call her on Friday and she was at my doorstep on Sunday. Peggy introduced us to the world of tongue ties. My son had a lip and tongue tie that was hindering him from latching properly. Peggy endorsed the services of Dr. Yazdi and the next Tuesday, my son underwent a frenectomy. Problem solved. Peggy did a follow up visit, she answered all of our questions and she definitely helped me out a lot when it came to engorgement and plugged duct issues. She went above and beyond my expectations. She is the best!

Dr. Toy might be a real whiz kid with the robot surgery equipment, but the folks working for him need some serious adult supervision. We got mixed up appointment dates, wrong appointment times, and staff members whose command of the English language was less than ideal. Texas Tech and Dr. Toy apparently have a policy against bringing in Americans for resident, intern, or medical student positions. We thought we were in a United Nations clinic. We experienced rude treatment from people from Central America, South America, China, and somewhere in Eastern Europe. Their grasp of the English language was universally poor. The worst part was a complete and total disregard for my wife's mental and emotional health. It was like they regarded her as a plastic crash test dummy, an object you could mess with just to see what happens next. Being told you have cancer is one of the harder things any of us will ever face, and the staff here went out of their way to make things a lot worse. Our experience was not only difficult but frightening. I was reminded of the experiments Nazi doctors performed on Jewish women at Auschwitz. Our advice is to stay as far away from these people as possible.

I transferred out of his care just shortly at about 16 weeks (best decision that pregnancy- the new office is amazing and I can't believe I almost went an entire pregnancy at blackburns). I was given endless grief about forwarding medical records! That was unexpected! I tried for 3 months, calling every month and someone would say, oh yes, we are sending over the records. I thought okay, they are coming. Here we are, close to my due date and the office calls saying I have to talk to the office manager in order for my records to be transferred. Okay. She, "Bert", calls me and is extremely RUDE for no reason! She says that because she reserves the right to, she is going to bill me $50 to send the records over. "Please don't send the records if you are going to bill me for it. " She fights with me for some time ( I am not a difficult person by nature, this is all such a terrorizing surprise) and ends with, " I am going to forward your records and then send YOU the bill." Click. she hangs up. Was THAT real LIFE that just happened??? After some time and more grief, I was able to have her begrudgingly send the records over without a bill. We have yet to see about that. but seriously- there are way better doctors you can go to. Some examples of better doctors are Dr. Hendryx (amazing ob!) and Dr. Anne Hale- just to name 2 to get you started. Ask around- ask your friends! Much much better doctors out there. My bad experience was just unnecessary. Truly, save yourself the grief of having to transfer out of his office (because you WILL want to), and start somewhere else. There are many GREAT ob's in El Paso. It's a big city with many wonderful options!!This office just REALLY isn't one of them, sadly.

I had some concerns about my health in regards to having heart palpitations with a family history of heart disease (my mother has cardiomyopathy with arrhythmias). She continued to be dismissive and tell me "it's normal with pregnancy. You're anemic, it's fine." When I asked for a referral to try and see a cardiologist, again she was dismissive and didn't give me one. None of this put me at ease, when I called my health insurance's Nurse Advisory hotline, they were shocked she never gave me orders to at least have an EKG done. I was 29 wks at the time and this is my first pregnancy. A high school friend recommended a different OB. I'm forever grateful she did! If you want a Dr. who is thorough with a good team that goes into detail to help put you at ease and also hears your concerns and doesn't dismiss them, don't go with Dr. DeSantos. I'm so thankful I switched when I did. As of today I have orders for an EKG, 2D Ultrasound of my heart along with other important tests I need to have done because I'm considered a high risk pregnancy due to gestational hypertension that wasn't caught nor monitored beforehand with Dr. DeSantos.
