Although I am a man, and they do not sell clothes for men, my wife absolutely loves this place and has been a frequent customer even before they moved to this new, beautiful location on lower Exchange Street. It's such a beautiful boutique and the prices are absolutely fair for the uniqueness and quality of apparel. My wife is very picky, and almost always finds something super cool and hip to buy here. Bliss is one of my top go to stores in Portland. I actively find reasons to treat myself in order to come here. The handmade jewelry is my guilty pleasure here, but they have everything from Frye boots to Spanx. The staff has always been helpful and kind. They often have GREAT sales which is super, considering their prices are very much retail value. Everything is high quality, and the venue has a cozy feel as opposed to the corporate department store vibe, which I really appreciate. I once broke the chain on my necklace that I had purchased here and they replaced it for me. My items from here always get a lot of compliments and are some of my favorite pieces! I do miss their David Aubrey collection and really wish they would bring more of it back, their jewelry options have somewhat dwindled since I first started going in here, but I never leave empty handed so... what does that tell you. The jean selection is massive. There is literally a jean for every body in this store. The vibe is casual-ish. They have tons of tees, tanks and tunics, but also have wedding-guest appropriate dresses. The shoes and bags are mostly from Frye with a sprinkle of variety. Love this store! read more

I dig Bliss. I've spent boat loads of cash in this store. After a brief hiatus from my normal svelte size (pregnancy), I popped in last weekend to revamp my wardrobe. My favorite clothing store. Ever. If I had the money and if I still lived in Maine, I would buy all of my clothes here. The style is casual, colorful, chic, and natural. Lots of soft, stylish tees, including some by the local organic cotton Milo in Maine company. Designer jeans. Best ever hair clips. I got one two years ago and it still looks brand new and holds my hair in place. The most beautiful, soft scarves known to woman. Friendly, helpful staff. Small sale section in the back. While the hubs was taking a break at a nearby pub, I decided to take a break myself and scope out the local retail selections. I entered Bliss on a warm afternoon and thought it a tad silly that most of their apparel was long sleeved, but then again half the year here is under snow. The employees were friendly and eager to help. I found a cozy cardigan/wrap (yes, I got something for chilly weather while it was nearing 90 degrees for the day). I had to unfold a few different ones, but the employee was very nice about having to fold the mess I made. Great store, plenty to choose from...can easily put a dent in your bank account. Hands down the most unprofessional online business I have ever had the unfortunate experience of interacting with. I returned the package to sender because it was an accidental order. Bliss Boutique has been ignoring my e-mails asking for a refund. They have had the item back unopened the entire time they have been ignoring my emails according to my tracking information. I left a voicemail saying if someone will not respond to me, I will open a PayPal claim. When they heard that, someone finally responded to me. They wrote back an obnoxious email alleging they do not have to refund me because the item was final sale and want to charge me a restocking fee of $20. I have never opened the package. I returned it to sender with documentation showing the package reached the merchant, and it was unopened. This is a straight forward return to sender. Now imagine trying to do a return with this business. read more

Beautiful, high-quality clothing that's out of the ordinary. We'd just had a putrid experience at Bertini on Middle Street. The ladies of Bliss were attentive, friendly, sussed out my style, and found me a beautiful top I know I'll wear forever. I also got stylish barrettes. Great selection of denim and super helpful staff. I HATE shopping and trying on jeans at Bliss was great - I told the sales staff what I was looking for, they handed me four or five pairs, and then the hard part was picking which style looked best - which they also helped me with. I can't say enough positive things about Bliss and the ladies who work there! I have been shopping here regularly for a few years. It has everything from foundation pieces (Frye boots and shoes; Joe's, JBrand and Citizens jeans; Splendid tops), to special finds (Steven Alan shirts, Prairie Underground hoodies and cloaks) to perfect gifts (unique jewelry and hair clips, socks and candles). And the Epice scarves! You can't winter in Maine without one (or two or three)! Also a great place for dresses for holiday parties, weddings, etc. (the versatile Susana Monaco and Butter by Nadia are well represented). This place had a great variety of brands and items and a nice setup. They have a comfy leather couch for trying on shoes or tired husbands to sit. The saleslady was very nice and got me several pairs of shoes to try on. It is quite pricey so just be prepared if you're not looking to spend much, but if you don't want to, then it's great window shopping. read more

I was looking forward to dropping some money in this store but was extremely disappointed. I had to ask: "Excuse me, do you work here" because the staff was so inattentive. Staff did help me locate a few different styles of jeans...after one trip to the dressing room, staff seemed to disappear again. Nobody checked in with me. I'm not someone who needs my ego stroked by retail employees but when I'm about to spend hundreds on a couple pairs of jeans, I want a little assistance with my purchase. Frustrating. I had a really bad experience at this store and will never shop there again. I bought a very expensive cashmere sweater ($300+) expecting it to be high quality at that price point. It began pilling after I wore it only once. Pretty much what you'd expect from something you got at TJ Maxx for $30! I spoke to the store manager who was very nice but would not take it back and just told me this was what cashmere did. Um... yeah, cheap cashmere! I called the store owner in Portland who did not return my two phone calls. Pretty unprofessional for a business owner. The kicker is I've been told by a couple of clothing sales reps and store owners that stores can return defective or unacceptable items to the manufacturer at no cost (esp. high end brands). Very disappointed with my whole experience at this store and with the owner! read more

Bliss is the best clothing store in Portland. They have plush velvet-draped dressing rooms, and a well-chosen merchandise selection. It will be an investment to shop here for most people, including myself, but everything I've bought here has stayed in my wardrobe for a long time.
