I recently bought a Jolly Rogers bag but when it arrived the grommet had come loose. I reached out to customer service and got an immediate response from Michelle Comeau stating I could send the bag back postage paid and they would replace it. Cool shop, glad they are reusing the sail fabric for something unique and different. Bags are a little pricey but they're all handmade in house. I really wanted one but it took me a while to decide. I didnt want to spend $100+. They have items such as small wristlets, wine bags, medium bucket bags and totes, large totes. I bought a bucket tote for $75. Nice medium sized multi purpose bag with pockets on the sides meant for drinks but during my trip I used the pockets for cell phone, sunscreen, bug spray and other items and kept larger water bottles in the center. Purchased a bag while in Portland Maine at the beginning of August. So excited about the bag. Upon returning home the handle of the bag began to intie. Went to the closest store and completed repair request and received in store confirmation that my bag was in Maine (8/28). It is now mid November and my repair is not completed and now the company has suspended all repairs until January 2025. Literally had the bag for 3 weeks...The bags are neat and the story behind them is good but be cautious in purchasing. read more

ordered 3 bags on November 20, the order was confirmed and the website states that all orders ship within 10 business days and that a confirmation email will be sent with a tracking number when the order ships. As of cob on December 9 (well over the 10 business day) I have not received any communication from Seabags indicating the order shipped. I have called and emailed customer service to no avail. Seems like I've had the same issue as a few other reviews. I have not visited their retail storefront, but I don't recommend the online shopping experience. I ordered 4 bags and only 3 shipped out on time. The fourth bag was delayed far past their estimated 10 business day handling time..so much so, that I contacted customer service many times via email and phone. In an email, it seemed that customer service didn't know what was going on with the delay. I called the phone # (no answer multiple times) and finally got someone. Who (as you've seen in the responses) said that there was an update in their systems that caused a confusion where the fourth bag was not shipped out. They were also convinced I had received the fourth bag which I clearly didn't (even their email stated only 3 bags were shipped first). I eventually got the 4th bag almost a month later. My second gripe is that 2 of the 4 bags had a very worn inner sail lining. I understand that each sail was once a used sail that has their own unique qualities which can result in spots here and there, but these two bags were just really worn looking on the inside for my personal taste. And that's okay.. no biggie...I'll exchange them right? Seabags says 100% guaranteed satisfaction. I sent customer service an email inquiring about the exchange process (since the online website doesn't provide a streamline return/exchange process), and so far.... no response. I'm not surprised (maybe their systems are still updating...) I have just been very unsatisfied with their customer service. read more

I own a Maine Sea Bag that had the rope handle fray and fall apart after a month. Also: these bags should ALL have interior pockets, duh! mine has a zipped top but I had to pay extra to get that. Visited their Commerical Street location in Portland recently to get a zipper on one of my bags I've purchased. The lady behind the counter informed me they can only put a zipper on a bag at a time of purchase. I got the bag online and wasn't aware I can't add a zipper later on. I ordered 34 cross body bags for client Christmas gifts. I placed three separate orders in late November. Two orders were received, one was not. I left a message with customer service two days in a row as directed from the message prompt because the operators were busy with other customers. No one has returned my calls. I love this store - not only are they reusing old sail fabric in a fun way, but the bags are beautiful and made mere feet away from the sales floor. They have all sorts of designs and variations in their color schemes, and offer seasonal products as well. Yes, they are pricey and the one I purchased may very well be the only one I can ever afford. That being said, I love it and tolerated being an impromptu shopping bag for the rest of my vacation. I just realized I've neglected to write a review on one of my favorite shops in the Old Port. Sea Bags! I've wanted to get a sea bag for years but the price tag always stopped me. So, for Christmas this year, I asked for a gift card & thankfully Santa obliged :). I went down the very next day & bought my awesome bag. I love the concept of recycled sails & buying locally. Just going to the shop is an experience in itself. Its right on Custom House Wharf so as you're walking down the wharf, you get all the fabulous smells of the ocean & fish, which I love. The shop is very small and you are kind of walking over each other but it's all part of the experience. I got a medium size tote & wristlet. I'm sort of a beach bum so this will be perfect to take to the beach as well as use for an over nite bag. As I mentioned, the bags are not cheap but they are durable, washable & will last forever. read more

When I heard about a Maine company making tote bags out of old sails, I knew I had to get one for my mom, who is an avid sailor and has spent much of her life in Maine. Although their standard bags are nice (they include an anchor design and a star design), I really wanted to get my mom one with sailboat on it. And since they have the option of making your own bag, I decided to make a bag with not just any sailboat, but my mom's own sailboat! When I placed the order, I sent them a photo of my mom's boat. They got in touch with me almost immediately to talk about the design. I asked them to send me a mock-up of the design for the bag before they made it, which they did. It looked great (and was totally recognizable as my mom's sailboat) and they completed work on it even faster than the estimate they had given me, which was very reasonable to begin with (2 weeks). Everyone I talked to during the process was friendly and committed to helping me have the perfect bag for my mom. The bags are not cheap - they start at $100 for a small tote, $120 for a medium and the custom bags cost about $30 more. But I'm sure a lot of labor goes into each bag, and they certainly have a very unique product. Top of the line to me. Recycling sail cloth into tote bags and variants. This is authenticity gone wild. Sail cloth is unimagineably durable and washable and seems like it will last forever. What better use of a discarded sail than to turn it into a daily use tote bag that will last a lifetime? The sails were used on actual sailboats, so when using the bag on the beach, what a rich history to infuse your beach experience. Great orginal hand made sail bag store. I have bought a few bags from them now and they are awesome. This store is not only a store, but where the bags are all made and their first store. It is down a pier next to a fish market, the real deal. It stinks like fish. The bags are all being made right in back of the store, you can see them sewing right there. They can even repair and add things to your bags while you wait. A lot of the bags are unique and really cool. They are all made out of recycled sails. We got a beetle cat sail bag from an old beetle cat sail with the emblem and everything. You can even send them a sail and have them make bags out of it for you. This company has a great product, I purchased my first piece at one of their stores. Unfortunately they have serious fulfillment issues with online orders and do not keep their advertised promises regarding shipping. I ordered on 11/25/22 and was promised shipping in 8-10 business days. I did not receive any shipping information by business day 10, so I contacted customer service. I was told that the company was guaranteeing orders placed by 12/14 would arrive for Christmas and that if I did not receive in a few days to contact them again. When I did I was told that "they had received a monumental amount of orders" over Black Friday weekend and were behind." They have numerous post on their Facebook page from unhappy customers, may who ordered weeks before I did and have still not received their order or any tracking information. There are also a lot of comments about not getting responses from customer service. I am now dealing with the BBB and PayPal trying to get a refund. I saw Sea Bags at different shops while in Maine. I initially didn't purchase one because of the price. There was a vendor at the Maine Lobster Festival with more options than I'd seen. I knew I was going to take the plunge. The clerk indicated they had a shop with even more options just up on Main Street in Rockland. We took the few minutes walk. She was right. I searched through many bags before I found the one I knew I had to have. I liked that it was a vintage sail with blue numbers extending to both sides. I also liked the idea of having a hook on the center to create a semi-closure but it wasn't available on my bag. The clerk in the store told me they'd attach one in a few minutes at the Portland store. In a few days we found ourselves in Portland. We went into the store early. They were enthusiastic as if I was their only customer. The store was very busy. Within minutes my hook was attached for $10. I ended up buying a toiletry bag and a couple of bracelets while there. I love my new bag. I use it daily to go to either the pool or the beach. It holds my beach towel and accessories with plenty of room for more. I expect to get many years worth of use out of my bag. Very disappointed, overall, in my experience with these folks. I exchanged a half-dozen emails to specify that I'd like to add internal pockets to my bag, to customize it. They gave me the pricing and I specified what I wanted. Next response from them: my bag's on the way. GREAT!! Not great: it arrived without the inside pockets!?!! For $120, I expect much better customer service. Can't get a response from them re: my receiving the bag not as I'd specified. Quite disappointing. Glue all over the rope ties... stitching looks like it was off then re-stitched so that there is stitch marks all on the bottom.
