But one weekend after visiting my in-laws in Nanoose Bay , we decided to try out some stores in Nanaimo. Our first store was Ladybelle and I was instantly blown away by their eagerness to help and how comfortable they made me feel. The process for picking your dresses to try on is by far the best. Instead of sifting through hundreds of white dresses you get to look through binders of models wearing the dresses , which for me made the process less overwhelming. After marking the dresses you would like to try on ( which is as many as you would like) they set them up for you in a large dressing room. I ended up choosing the second dress I tried on, it was amazing and was exactly what I was looking for and ended up being way under budget! The ordering process was super easy and the dress came in way before expected. I ended up taking the dress with me to Saskatchewan to get it altered ( even though Ladybelle offers recommended seamstresses) even though the wedding was in Nanoose Bay. But After not getting my alterations done correctly in Regina I ended up taking my dress to Ladybelle 3 days before the Wedding asking for help. They did me HUGE favour and made an emergency call to a seamstress who came in that day and took my measurements and took my dress with her. She had it done the next day and even delivered it to me! I am forever grateful to ladybelle bridal for Helping me and making me so happy through this whole experience !

I was left standing around waiting for her to reappear, having no one zip, clip and/or tie up the dress. She wanted to argue with me about the style I liked, but only to correct the words I used to describe it. What's the point of that? She didn't smile once, seemed irritated with my presence, told me I should figure out what I actually like/want before I try on any more dresses. Isn't that how you find out what you like/want in a wedding dress? By trying some on? I'm a size 8, but she'd pulled a size 16 in one style. I know they are sized different from regular clothes, so I put it on anyway and it was ridiculously huge and sloppy. For a woman who is supposed to know her stuff, this was nuts! She only pulled about 4 dresses for my entire appointment. I was out of there within 30 mins. Ugh. Never again. I was in great spirits walking in and felt like crap when I left - not a single positive word out of her mouth. There was actually one dress I really liked, but if I decide I want to try that dress on again, I'll find it elsewhere because there's NO way I'm giving this shop my business.

We really had no intentions of finding a dress since the was the first and only time I had ever looked at wedding dresses. From the moment I stepped in the doors I felt so welcome and so well taken care of. The ladies that work here are truly the best, I can honestly say I've never had a better experience in a store of any kind. They went above and beyond to make my mom and I feel comfortable, and I walked out of there feeling so incredibly beautiful, on cloud 9, and with the dress of my dreams. TWP was new-ish at the time to the dress scene in Victoria, but I'd heard great things about them, and even seen some of the dresses they sell at a bridal show, so I didn't hesitate to book an appointment with Trish when the time came. I first went looking at dresses with my bestie/bridesmaid, where Trish kindly and warmly assisted me during my appointment. I was open to trying on a variety of dresses, but being a curvier girl it was sometimes difficult to fit the samples. I ended up really loving the line of dresses from Robert Bullock Bridal, and initially thought I would end up with a simple, sweetheart-necklined strapless lace number. However, I wanted to have "that moment" with my parents, and since they were out of town, I wanted to return with them. Once again, Trish provided exemplary service in pulling some of my favourites and some of my parents' favourites. Ironically, I ended up going with a much different Robert Bullock gown (with straps! V-neck! Swarovski crystals! a train!), adding a jeweled belt. Shopping at TWP is a penultimate bridal experience - they procure a beautiful selection of quality gowns (not the cookie cutter gowns you find at more mainstream bridal stores), and their attention to you as a customer really puts the icing on the proverbial cake.

When we left Judith (who was also shopping) told my mother she was opening up a store and if we wanted to we could go back to her house and look through catalogues and she would order the dresses I liked for me to try on. As I was going through the catalogues, I came across a wedding dress and told her to order it for me because I wanted to get married in it, she laughed and said it was a bit too formal for my event but to keep looking. Anyway, I picked out a few dresses and she ordered them. When they arrived, she brought them to my house and I tried on about 5 dresses before making my selection. Overall a very good experience (my younger sister also bought her grad dress there 3 years after me and Judith helped her as well) In 2000, my girlfriend was engaged (as was I) and made an appointment for us to try on dresses at The Drawing Room. We went in and Judith remembered me as her very first customer and helped me pick out a few dresses. When I came out in the first dress she told me, "That's just like the one you picked out when you were 17 from the catalogue, do you remember?" I did and was married in that dress, which I still love all these years later. After almost 15 years, I still remember my dress experiences with Judith and would recommend the Drawing Room to anyone. I visited Truvelle in September of 2018 looking for my wedding dress. I had been following Truvelle…read moreon Instagram for quite some time and I loved all the dresses so I was eagerly anticipating my appointment. My appointment was on a Saturday afternoon, which may have made it less than positive experience. When I arrived, we were given a spot in the back corner of the store. Another bride and her guests were in the center of the store. I had brought my mom, my sister, and my best friend with me and it was quite tight to fit all three of them into the small space given to us. At our previous appointments, my style and budget had been inquired about and we had been offered water (and in one case champagne), at Truvelle none of these things were asked or offered to me. The salesperson did ask about my wedding date and then she told me that I could pull anything off the rack I wanted. I pulled a few dresses but because the other bride who was there had already pulled some that I was interested in I was told that I would need to wait and maybe I'd be able to try on those dresses. The samples did not fit (which I completely understand) but the salesperson did not clip them to give me a sense of how they would look (it looked like the other bride had all the clips they had), so my mom held them closed so we could get some sense of how the dresses would fit. One of the coolest things about Truvelle is that you can customize their dresses and there were quite a few customizations in the store to try on. When I inquired with the salesperson about what the specific customizations were, so that I could request them if I chose to buy the gown, she seemed vague and unable to really answer my questions. The poor customer service felt really disappointing given how excited I had been about this business. Also, for me personally, the materials of the dresses just weren't what I was looking for, each dress has several layers which left me feeling weighed down and warm. Some of the dresses were definitely beautiful but in person I just didn't love the materials. I had thought I would buy a Truvelle dress but ultimately I decided to buy my dress from a different designer and a boutique which I felt like really listened to my preferences. Unfortunately given my experience, I wouldn't recommend that my friends visit this store on a weekend. I hope that others have better experiences than I did.

During our appointment we had the beautiful storefront to ourselves. The dresses were beyond beautiful with their delicate details, unique materials and a variety of shades. I had a lot of fun trying on different styles and having having the lady in the shop tie a big bow in the back or add on a veil to help me picture myself as a bride. Once I tried on the Alexandra dress in dove grey I was sold. The dress was comfortable, moved elegantly and was long enough for my 6 foot frame. The lady in the shop took my measurements and sent me an email with additional information later that day. Once I decided to move forward with ordering the dress it was a simple process. I live in San Francisco and Truvelle was able to courier the dress here once it was made. The shop sent me a fabric swatch in the mail to help with picking colors for bridesmaids, flowers and any other decor that I wanted to coordinate with the dress. When I had questions such as what shoes they would recommend to finding out the ETA of the delivery the ladies at the shop were always helpful and quick to respond. The dress did not require much tailoring - shortening the straps, adding sewn in cups, buttons to create a bustle for the train and sewing the bow to the waist. On my wedding day putting on the dress was very exciting. Seeing the look on my now husband's face was priceless. He loved the dress as much as I did. The way the dress looked in photos on an overcast Northern California day was perfection. My friends and family showered me with compliments about how much they adored the dress. I hope to wear it on anniversaries since it can look less bridal with a tuxedo jacket on top. I was told by friends that deciding on the wedding dress was one of the toughest decisions of planning. I feel lucky that I was able to find a dress at Truvelle and feel confident in the choice. It was a positive experience from beginning to end and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for a dress for a wedding or otherwise. If you want a dress that will WOW, then Bisou Bridal has it. This bridal boutique had quite a bit of dresses and although they were packed tightly in rows, the place never felt too cramped. This place is slightly on the smaller area, but it felt intimate. The fitting area can comfortably fit 3 groups and 4 if you squeeze together. Our consultant was fabulous and was very professional. We left the store feeling relieved that one of the dresses was the dress she would wear down the aisle, but never pressured to buy on the spot. My friend ended up going back and buying the dress and there are no regrets!

The experience was not overwhelming or intimidating in any way. I cannot recommend her enough. As for the dress selection - Bisou really surprised me. I thought it would be way over my price range (I didn't want anything over $2,500), but there were some good options! They really have brands and styles for all types of brides as well. We managed to find street parking, but only after circling for a while.
