Disturbing Treatment of Animals & Unprofessional Management…read more Our experience with Barks Bed & Biscuit was incredibly disappointing and concerning -- both in how they treat animals and how they handle hiring. I feel obligated to share this to warn other pet owners and job seekers. To begin, the way the dogs are treated is unacceptable. I witnessed staff dragging dogs by their collars back to their kennels. Employees were also yelling at the dogs to "shut up," including the manager herself, who said this during my daughter's interview. That level of disrespect and impatience coming from leadership sets a terrible example for the rest of the staff and shows a complete lack of compassion. The area where dogs are taken out to use the bathroom is just small pebbles and rocks -- no grass, no real comfort for the animals. The smell was overpowering, clearly not maintained properly, and honestly, I'm worried it could pose a health risk. It was strong enough to make someone gag. My daughter only saw one dog briefly engaged with -- they threw a ball once or twice, then ignored them. That's the extent of the "playtime" they supposedly offer. The rest of the dogs just stood around waiting to go back in. two younger employees were vaping, and one even asked an older staff member to buy them a vape. This level of behavior is completely unprofessional, especially in an environment that should prioritize safety, cleanliness, and responsibility. Now onto the hiring situation with my daughter, which was completely mishandled. She applied for a job, was told she was able to come in for an interview, and asked to return the following week for a one-hour session to see how she worked with animals. She completed that, did well, and was told she had the position. Based on that, she officially gave her two weeks' notice at her current job. She was excited to move into a role where she could work with animals -- something she's passionate about. Then, out of nowhere, she received a casual text message saying they weren't hiring anymore due to things "slowing down." Here's the exact message: "Hey ______ ! Meg decided not to hire anyone else since we are getting slower; there won't be enough hours to give out. once we get busier meg or I will reach out to you! If you are interested in doing overnights then I can send you some info for them! Thank you for coming in last week:) " This is how my daughter replied: Hi, Thanks for the message. After giving it some thought, I've decided I'm no longer interested in moving forward with the position. I appreciate the opportunity to come in last week, but I did find the process a bit unprofessional, especially with the sudden change after my time and effort. I wish you and the team all the best moving forward. They haven't even made the effort to respond to my daughter and apologize. My daughter was devastated. Not only had she been told she had the job, but she was also counting on that income -- especially after just taking her pet to an emergency vet visit that cost a lot. Now, because of their carelessness and poor communication, she'll have no money coming in and has to deal with the fallout of leaving her previous job for an opportunity that was taken away with a text. Between the neglectful treatment of animals, the unsanitary conditions, the unprofessional and immature staff, and the way they carelessly misled a young applicant, I would never trust Barks Bed & Biscuit with my pet -- or recommend anyone consider working there.

I can't recommend Nancy at Know Your Dog Training highly enough…read more After doing extensive research to find the right trainer, I'm so glad I found Nancy. From the beginning it was clear that she has a deep understanding of dogs and brings a calm, confident, and professional approach to everything she does. My dog Kane completed a training program with her, and I was extremely impressed with the experience and the results. Nancy takes the time to truly understand each dog and provides the kind of structure, guidance, and consistency that helps dogs thrive. Since then, Nancy has also become my trusted go-to whenever I travel. Knowing Kane is in her care gives me tremendous peace of mind. He always comes home happy, relaxed, and well cared for. What really sets Nancy apart is the level of attention and personalization she provides. This isn't a typical boarding situation -- she genuinely gets to know the dogs she works with and creates a thoughtful, structured environment for them. Nancy is trustworthy, caring, extremely knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what she does. I'm very grateful I found her and would recommend Know Your Dog Training without hesitation to anyone looking for a skilled trainer or a safe, reliable place for their dog while they're away.

Nancy was referred to me by another trusted dog trainer I worked with in the city, and I'm so glad…read moreshe was. Having a city dog isn't easy -- our 4-year-old Wheaten Terrier (female) has tons of energy, a stubborn streak, and some anxiety and reactivity issues around other dogs. We were looking for help with leash training and overall confidence, and Nancy was the perfect fit. From the very first interaction, Nancy was professional, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. She clearly loves what she does and cares deeply about every dog she works with. I enrolled our pup in a month-long board-and-train program while I was getting married, and Nancy made the experience completely stress-free. She stayed in constant communication, sending regular updates, photos, and videos that showed the progress and the specific behaviors being worked on -- plus advice for us as owners to reinforce at home. When our dog came back, the difference was night and day. She's calmer, more responsive, and walks beautifully on a leash with far fewer distractions. Her reactivity around other dogs has improved dramatically, and she seems much more confident overall. Even after the program ended, Nancy went above and beyond -- she included additional follow-up lessons at no cost and still checks in to see how things are going. Her board-and-train setup is amazing too: the dogs aren't kept in kennels but get to enjoy the outdoors, sunshine, and plenty of attention and enrichment. I can't recommend Know Your Dog and Nancy enough for anyone looking for dog training, board-and-train programs, or boarding with a personal touch. Nancy truly changed our dog's behavior -- and our lives -- for the better.

We've tried several trainers and boarding facilities in various cities and states. We even resorted to trying a famous YouTube trainer and he came back worse and even more anxious. Typically, these expensive "board and trains" we've participated in have ended with medication recommendations and a "good luck". One final trainer recommended we try Mind Of Dog because she also wasn't able to break through. I'm so grateful we did. He's thriving and comes home exhausted. An added bonus is the people training we've received. The best part of all of it, is that he's finally getting the exercise and structure he's always needed and deserves. They handle the dogs calmly, but with lots of structure and clear boundaries, which our dog desperately needs. We can finally go to work and travel without worrying that he's being mishandled or ignored. We're so grateful to have found this place and I have to admit, I was waiting for him to fail again, because we had lost all hope. I highly recommend that you give Mind Of Dog a shot, especially if you're in a similar position as we were. Thanks, Mind of Dog! Senna loves you all and is so grateful to be able to play with dogs without fear and anxiety.

I've always been hesitant to leave my dog off with a stranger. Especially since I know that my dog is a bit anxious when left with new people (even for a few minutes). He has only ever stayed with my parents and siblings. When I got there, it was a fenced in house with a lake and a lot of space. Gabbie met my dog first before introducing him to any other dogs. She asked us questions, and we explained Sasha's personality. She then introduced our dog to her dog, and observed their energy. Then she brought out one dog at a time until all dogs were out and were able to meet my dog. This gave me a good feeling, because she obviously knew what she was doing. It was not a place where my dog was put in a cage, but a place where he was part of a group. When I left he gave me the you-are-abandoning-me look. I am not the type of person to really worry, but it was great that a few hours later, i got a message from Gabbie saying my dog had settled in nicely. She sent me a picture of him, and when i checked the next day, she had dozens of pictures of the activities all the dogs did for the day. At that point I knew my dog probably already forgot who i was and was having the time of his life. I picked him up 2 days later, and he came out like if he owned the place. He came out with his head up, a smile one his face, and a tail that wagged 100 wags/second. I would recommend this place to anyone. Sasha will be back this month!
