This institution is a complete and abject failure at the service it claims to provide. I was just looking at the other reviews and am baffled to find that I am not the only one with these problems. They forgot to file my 2016 tax returns. The whole reason to go to a CPA in the first place is the expectation that they would do their due diligence. It is one thing to make an accounting mistake in the returns but how could they forget to file the returns? I have never experienced such blatant incompetence with any service in my life, much less with something as crucial as Tax returns! Add to this I opted for the peace of mind service and I got the exact opposite of what I paid for. I actually regret having to even give the one star. This business deserves -5 stars if possible. When they tried the fix it a whole year later they wouldn't even pay for priority mail and would have me pay for tracking and postage if I wasn't going to chose the traditional mail. 2016 was the first year I even chose to go to an accountant instead of doing it myself online specifically because it was a year where I wanted to be particularly safe in my filings. This is such a disastrous turn that I am completely enraged with their conduct and their lackadaisical attitude towards their customers. Here's an advice for anyone considering going here, run! I've had several disappointing experiences with Joe and his staff, both before and after they became an H&R Block franchise. I began using them in 2015 on the recommendation of my bookkeeper for my business and personal tax filings. Initially, Joe's staff was helpful with my April filing. Several months later, my wife went to see them for an unrelated matter, and they casually mentioned to her that I had missed a signature line in one of my tax return forms, and so they had not filed it. They had found a problem, but failed to take 30 seconds to contact me about it. I decided to try them to prepare articles of incorporation for my business, which took forever for them to file, despite assuring me that it was a simple and fast process. I had to send multiple emails requesting status updates, to which I received no reply. 6 weeks later, they finally filed our incorporation paperwork. I found out about this only because Joe reached out wondering why the packet the firm sent containing our incorporation materials were returned to sender. This was because they registered my corporation to the wrong address, and then sent our corporate book and paperwork to that address. I would expect that before the filing, there would have been some chance for me to review the articles for accuracy, but there wasn't - it was just filed, wrong address and all. After that, it took a few more months to get the actual paperwork and book sent to the proper address. Why it took months, I have no clue - we are only 1 day away from them by mail. We had to send multiple emails pleading for the materials to get sent again, and they eventually arrived, 80 days after they were supposed to arrive. Other issues: - failing to reply to simple but time sensitive questions about the business structure change - claiming they did not receive scanned documents, when they were attached to emails that staff replied to - sending invoices for bills which have been paid months earlier (we paid by check, which we have records of being cashed)...this is an accounting firm, surely they keep books to? - claiming to not have internet access in their office which is why they overlooked our emails - repeatedly replying to other client's emails but sending them to us instead I wish I understood what changed with this firm. There are two other businesses in my network that have had similar experiences with Joe in 2015. My bookkeeper won't recommend them anymore. Maybe it has something to do with becoming an H&R block franchise. read more

I have an accountant for my taxes, but I needed some immediate professional guidance for a sticky tax situation involving IRS forms for services provided by an independent contractor. I stopped by Joe's office without an appointment. I was greeted by Gisel A... what a jewel! Very friendly and very helpful. While I waited in the lobby, Joe came out and introduced himself then asked about my predicament. He was very gracious and offered some advice re: my situation while we waited for Leane R to finish meeting with a client. Only 15 minutes lapsed from the time I entered Joe's business until I met with Leane. She looked over my documents and IRS forms then offered to complete the forms and file them with the IRS while I waited. I was done lickety split. It is rare to find such a pleasant and competent professional; I can unhesitatingly recommend Leane for tax service support. She is experienced, knowledgeable, and just a great person. Our current block advisor in San Carlos retired so we searched for someone in Belmont as it was closer to home. We had been with that office for 6 years and every year enjoyed sitting with Robert while he entered in our taxes. I found Joseph Dalli and read his reviews. I liked what I read as we have rental property and had questions. I made an appointment online with Joe for a Friday. My husband and I had to take a day off work as he didn't have weekend appointments. We showed up for our appointment figuring it would be just like all the other years where you sit with your tax advisor and discuss your return. When we got there we were greeted by someone else. He took us into a small area and asked what he could do for us. We were a bit taken by surprise. I mentioned that I had made a 10am appointment with Joe. He said hold on and left and came back with Joe. I mentioned how I made an appointment with him online and he proceeded to tell me that he already had an appointment with someone else. My husband and I were extremely confused. I had to explain my confusion and he said just leave your paperwork here and "Gary" will take care of it. You will then make another appointment to come back and go over it and sign papers. I proceeded to tell him about our past experience with Block Advisors and he proceeded to say just leave your stuff here. I was NOT happy about taking a day off work to just have someone shove me out the door as if I was not important! If this is the way this office conducts business then they need to be straight and up front when someone makes an appointment online. I do not appreciate the "bait ad switch" approach. I then had to make us another appointment to go down and go over everything and sign the papers. I was not happy to have to pay over $600 to someone that didn't have the courtesy of meeting with us in person and treating us with common customer service. I am not sure if I will be going back there next year! A very disappointing experience. read more
