Got to do my first class at Block 21 this week and it was a blast! Rating 4 stars since I haven't had much experience yet but planning to update to 5 if my future classes are as fun as the last (: My sister has been going to Block 21 for a while and brought me to class with one of her favorite instructors, Kenny. He had incredible Saturday morning energy that encouraged everyone in the class to let go of their self-consciousness to get a great and empowering workout. The playlist was full of throwbacks from my middle school era which was a blast and I loved having all different ages in the class. Overall it felt so welcoming and approachable which I don't often feel when going to a first class at a new gym. Can't wait to go back and try out classes with other instructors and take Kenny's class again! I'm seeing a punch pass in my future. read more

Oooohh this was a good one! The bf was out of town, so I decided on getting in on a good workout in the city. A cardio dance class? Definitely something he wouldn't mind missing and I'm a sucker for an awesome class workout. I used my OnTheHouseApp (awesome for the Denver area) and booked Sally's 50 minute 10am Block21 Signature class for free. The website claims this is 80% cardio and 20% strength - the perfect class to try for a newbie like me. And guess what? That site is absolutely right. The room isn't very big, but the 30 or so people in the class were not crowded either. We all had enough room to jump, shake, and shimmy all over. It's a cardio hip hop class, but the moves and steps were easy to follow and super fun! A great mix of music and moves for the entire 50 minutes. I absolutely loved the quick interval break in between - I always have time for a good wall-sit and mountain climbers. Sally also ended the class with a full song dedicated to nonstop arms that ALMOST killed me, but in the best way possible. Loved this class and wish it was a little closer to me so I could justify a membership or even coming a few times a month. If you're in the Denver area, I highly recommend stopping in for a class. Definitely a great way to break up my tried and true gym routine. read more

You know that feeling when you are all alone in your room and you are JAMMING out doing your own thing? That was this class!!!! No judgements, no one mocking you, you are just rocking out doing your own thing! I went to my first class last week and I have been thinking about it ever since then. I could not believe the high I got from feeling so free dancing and shaking it all out! All while getting a fantastic workout! My fitbit said I burned 450 calories from the class!!! There were so many times where I had my right hand up in the air and it was supposed to be the left, or I went left when we were supposed to go right... and NO ONE CARES!!!!!!! Tried block 21's free trial last night. We joined a dance workout class. They were very welcoming and made sure me and my friends felt comfortable as newbies. I was impressed by the workout we got from this! We left sweating but did not even feel like we worked out because we were having so much fun laughing and dancing. The prices on the website seem reasonable as well last nights class seems to run $14-16 if I did not have a free trial pass which is not bad for an hour workout. BLOCK21 has been the greatest blessing to my health and mindset during the past 6 months. I am strangely grateful to Covid/the pandemic for forcing me to slow down and seek out positive new ventures for myself--which led to discovering this gem of a fitness family through one of their fabulous instructors, Emily. Never in my 33 years have I LOOKED FORWARD to a workout-- until now. I have always hated the boring grind of your typical gym. The music gets you hype from the moment you walk in the door!! The dances are easy to catch on to, and the energy you feel from the amazing instructors and other clients is phenomenal. The teachers are all unique in their styles and approaches... but none fail to bring amazing energy. Every class feels like a party (yes you can party Mon - Sun at BLOCK21)! If you love it as much as I do you will get the Unlimited Membership... at first it seemed like a huge investment but it is honestly an amazing deal and well worth every penny. If you're scouring the internet for a fun new way to exercise, and you're reading this review--look no further--Block21 is the actual best. I've been going for about three months now, and I have never once dreaded it. I always have a blast, class is over in a snap, and I wish it wasn't! Classes are 50 minutes. The structure of "Signature" (the most popular class) is: warm-up, dancing, three 30-second intervals, more dancing, one strength/conditioning song (you typically isolate one muscle group like arms, abs, or legs), and cool-down. There are also two other types of classes: "Perform" (you learn one song's worth of more challenging choreo, rehearse the combination to a bunch of different songs, and then perform in small groups) and "Body" (basically the inverse of Signature--more focus on training with a couple of dance breaks). In terms of the style of dance, it basically just feels like you're at your favorite club! It's fun, sexy booty dancing that will make you sweat and leave you sore the next morning so you know you worked! Every instructor is fantastic, kind, and your biggest cheerleader. They tell you you're hot, and they mean it! The other people in class are so sweet, too. It's such a positive environment--no one is watching or judging you, we're all just there to have a good time and sweat! If in-person classes aren't for you, there are virtual options as well. You can live stream a class or choose from dozens of archived videos. If you're thinking about Block21 even a tiny bit, I highly encourage you to try it. You'll be hooked in no time! read more

Took my first class this weekend, Perform with Quiana, and, OMG, I loved it. If you've ever done Ujam or BodyJam, this format is similar in that you learn choreography and build on it, and build speed. Everyone was so nice and so supportive of each other! They were rooting for us new kids, for sure, and even though we were all masked up, the room was filled with smiling eyes and pure joy. Dance experience is not required, but, at least for Perform, comes in handy. But, the room is pretty dark, so if you're not feeling like performing, per se, it's easy to blend in, dance, and have a great fun and energizing time. I'm sore as hell today, but caught myself practicing some of the moves in my kitchen. If you like dance cardio, do this - you'll love it! read more

Top 3 things to know about BLOCK21: 1. You DO NOT have to be a *dancer* or someone with a dance background to love this class. 2. You'll blink and the 50 minute class will be done (and you'll be drenched in sweat!) 3. Sally (the instructor) is a badass. She keeps the energy going the entire time, and you can't help but feel it! Truly, this is the perfect group exercise class for me. I have been on the hunt for years for a class that I would want to keep coming back to (I even tried Class Pass once in hopes of trying ALLLL of the classes) and I'm telling you, THIS IS IT, PEOPLE! I danced my whole childhood, but have little to no rhythm these days. I'm also soooo out of shape and NEVER work out (because I hate working out). I have been going to Block21 once a week for a bit over three months now, and I love it! I never really worked out before and would quickly abandon group exercise classes due to embarrassment or feeling as though I couldn't physically keep up. This class is hard, make no mistake, but it is so much fun, and Sally so encouraging, that before you know it you've made it through the hour and you're feeling accomplished. For my story, I was a dress size 8 the day I started Block21, I am a busy mother of two, and also just found out that my husband wanted to pursue a life with someone else. The fast pace of this class helped me to focus on the music and movement and not be in my head, which I am so grateful for! It really helped me to focus on myself a bit and get out of my pity party. It helps that with how fast it is you know that no-one has time to be looking at you :). But, there are no pity parties in that class! Sally makes averyone feels like they are nothing short of amazing. The bonus was that as of today I am a dress size 2 without any real diet changes, just taking this class. That's a big change in 3 months! It's a great class and I would recommend it to anyone. There are people of all shapes and sizes, all ages and circumstances, all levels of ability, all just wanting to have a fun, challenging workout in a dimly-lit environment.
