I mean, it's all about steak here...and the owners are real nice...but there is something I don't particular enjoy about too much bones for lunch. It makes my beautiful thousands of dollars set of teeth uncomfortable. So why even three stars? It's the perfect lunch spot, if you love steaks! The menu was good, and I was happy to choose the fillet steak, which I ate with very fresh chips and a creamy garlic sauce. The steak melted in my mouth and was a perfect medium rare, something not always achieved. My husband had a chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce and voted it tender and delicious. The service was pleasant, and on a night with quite a crowd, we were not ignored. This a restaurant will visit again, and maybe that time I might have room for one of their delicious sounding desserts.

Amazing stone grilled dining isn't all you get at The Balcony, you awesome receive on point service by waiting staff who are more than happy to accommodate diners. The staffs also help you with the stone grilling process, and it is vital to listen to them unless you want an overcooked well-done steak (which is a sin). I ordered the seafood collection to stone grilled, and I must say is something else. The food was well garnished and the flavours were brought out on the stone slab. My friends ordered the steaks and managed to stuff up on the stone grilling (amateurs). I enjoyed an excellent filet mignon and could not believe how much I enjoyed the cooking process. The meat cooked on the stone slab exactly the way I like it (medium well) and was quite delicious to devour. This was coupled with a superb dessert menu and choice of wines. All in all, a very memorable meal that I would repeat regularly if I lived in Adelaide. Certainly an excellent, very unique restaurant that I highly recommend to anyone visiting this city.

Extremely loud. About five other tables immediately emptied leaving, People had had enough. Other patrons like us, couldn't have a conversation due to the loud noise of one table. I did ask to be moved to the front room after an hour, but the staff refused, claiming they were full up. There was vacated table. The food and wine was excellent, but at $400 for two, one should expect that. And expect a decent atmosphere. Not a Hoon Soccer stadium atmosphere, constant swearing at the top of their voices, A decent restaurant would have asked them to leave. I've visited Argentina. And ALL the Argentinian restaurants had extremely polite diners. Usually great atmosphere. Great food. Good dining experience. But not Gauchos in Adelaide. No Tango music, or other atmosphere. No music. Instead loud "Ffff that", "Ffffing hell", "Bullsh*T", "Sh*t" at the top of voices for two hours. When paying the bill, the cashier/manager had a disinterested attitude, "who cares" attitude. I had gone to Gauchos many times in the past years, missed for a few years, it has certainly not improved. Don't dine there.

I don't think I'd come here again because it is pretty pricey for what you get and the steak. I could cook a better steak at home.

Fast forward 30 years and its a little quieter, but menu is much the same and the decor is almost back in vogue again! That might sound like a criticism but in fact that is the E&C's strength - no nonsense steaks, schnitzels, seafood, a good salad bar, and a reasonable wine list, not to mention bar prices for drinks. We ate on a Friday lunchtime and from list of rump, sirloin, t-bone, porterhouse, rib-eye and eye-fillet steak, we ordered the Filet Mignon (yep another blast from the past - that's fillet steak wrapped in bacon). It came cooked to order and was a 300gm portion that was 3cm thick and full of flavour. Coupled with the hot vegetables or salad bar and a bottle of Mitchell Peppertree Shiraz, it was a simple but enjoyable meal. You order at the counter and service was attentive and friendly. If you are wanting a steak fix, definitely a low key alternative to the more trendy, and expensive steak houses in town.
