Our host booked Millbrook for us and I'm so glad they did! Giancarlo and Lorraine are fantastic! They take such care and have such a passion for what they do that every detail of the B&B is divine! We felt so comfortable during our stay and we can't wait to return so we can enjoy the beautiful garden at more length. The breakfast was tasty and the conversation even better, I highly recommend staying here if you are in the area. The beds are so comfortable and we learned after complimenting them that they had them custom made in Italy. While we are not the typical B&Bers, I was very nervous my clumsy husband would break a priceless antique, we felt very at home. You just don't get that any ole' place. I can't wait to return to the East coast just so we can stay here again.

The room smelled of mildew and mold. The electrical wires were exposed and unsafe. The bed was old and very uncomfortable. We looked at the reviews before booking and this was not as described. Although, the owner/manager was welcoming, NO WAY could we spend another night there.

The main rooms were booked for the weekend we wanted, so we opted to stay in the cottage. It was fairytale-like and spacious. We had fun using the record player and listening to the frogs out on the pond at night. We loved the proximity to the Millbrook winery and good restaurants for dinner. Toni, the owner, gave us a tour of the property on the day we checked out. We liked hearing about how she and her late husband first began working on this castle in the 1970s. It's filled with details that anyone who enjoys art would appreciate. It's also a great place for those who are interested in the Middle Ages and fantasize about staying in a castle. We are not typically bed and breakfast enthusiasts, but this stay was one-of-a-kind, and worth doing again!!

With the mountains and the beautiful scenery it really does feel like you got transported to Europe in 1512!! One of the unique things to do if you are on the east coast. There is the Millbrook winery which is only a 1 min drive away. That's its own super cool experience in its own right. The owner and builders wife Ms. Toni Wing was super hospitable and gave us a tour of the castle after our stay with a little bit of history of the creator and artist of this place the Late Peter Wing.

I stumbled along this place online and we were so happy I did! The innkeeper was very gracious and gave great recommendations on local restaurants and activities. It was September/October so we decided we wanted to take a "leaf peeping" drive and so we followed a map and some road signs for magnificent views of the New England fall foliage. We even went over a few covered bridges, that was a first for us! We did wine tastings at local nearby wineries, including Hopkins, which was our favorite. We bought some souvenir wine glasses and a bottle (or three) of wine and enjoyed it at Lake Waramaug -- the most beautiful autumn setting -- not far from home base at Constitution Oak. Bunnell Farm was nearby and they have a great corn maze. You can also stop for fresh produce, pickles and preserves at Freund Farm along the Leaf Peeping route. This B&B is in a great area with lots of local attractions nearby, including historic Litchfield. We stayed in a room upstairs and it was huge! There were 3 beds so we both had our own bed and then some. The bathroom was in the hallway but we were the only guests so it didn't matter. There was a nice dining room with pastries and coffee waiting for us in the morning and a cozy sitting room to unwind.

Tea, water, Nespresso, and coffee are always available along with some delectable baked delight. Nancy is always full of great ideas for things to do and places to eat. I say that in the most respectful way and only mean to say that I'm guessing the whole shebang would be next to nothing without her touch, her oversight and her attention to detail. The detail in the rooms, the perfection at breakfast, the lovingly manicured grounds, assorted wonderful nooks... at first I was wondering what there is to DO in Highland and, to be honest, I'm still not sure... but given the bike path, beautiful scenery and Inn At Twaalfkill, I'm not sure what else you need. I'm not always a fan of B and Bs... they can tend to be a little twee and you feel like you have to tiptoe around... partially because the walls in a good hotel are much thicker, the spaces less cramped, your anonymity more protected. There may be a bit of that tip-toeing here (the floors are pretty squeaky and you are worried that you are making too much noise for someone on a different sleeping schedule) but that is the only downside. We had just spent two nights in a pretty nice hotel in Beacon. The room was over 50% more expensive than here and, while large enough, there was not one square foot of horizontal space to put anything down in the bathroom.... The room at Inn at Twaalfill had so much guest-friendly space (especially in the bathroom), you would not likely have a use for all of it. If all B&Bs were this great and this price, I would never stay anywhere else.
