The bnb itself is adorable, especially the cozy living room which has a comfortable couch, fireplace and chess table. Joni offered us a glass of local whiskey while we were playing chess before heading to dinner, which was a nice surprise. Joni was a wonderful host and even offered to drive us to and from our dinner reservations as we didn't have a car visiting from NYC. The breakfast she made was incredible and was made with local, fresh ingredients - blueberry pancakes, bacon, quiche, Waldorf salad with coffee and orange juice. Definitely recommend Blue Barn Bnb, especially as a weekend getaway from NYC, accessible via Metro North!

The main rooms were booked for the weekend we wanted, so we opted to stay in the cottage. It was fairytale-like and spacious. We had fun using the record player and listening to the frogs out on the pond at night. We loved the proximity to the Millbrook winery and good restaurants for dinner. Toni, the owner, gave us a tour of the property on the day we checked out. We liked hearing about how she and her late husband first began working on this castle in the 1970s. It's filled with details that anyone who enjoys art would appreciate. It's also a great place for those who are interested in the Middle Ages and fantasize about staying in a castle. We are not typically bed and breakfast enthusiasts, but this stay was one-of-a-kind, and worth doing again!!

There is the Millbrook winery which is only a 1 min drive away. That's its own super cool experience in its own right. The owner and builders wife Ms. Toni Wing was super hospitable and gave us a tour of the castle after our stay with a little bit of history of the creator and artist of this place the Late Peter Wing.

I stumbled along this place online and we were so happy I did! The innkeeper was very gracious and gave great recommendations on local restaurants and activities. It was September/October so we decided we wanted to take a "leaf peeping" drive and so we followed a map and some road signs for magnificent views of the New England fall foliage. We even went over a few covered bridges, that was a first for us! We did wine tastings at local nearby wineries, including Hopkins, which was our favorite. We bought some souvenir wine glasses and a bottle (or three) of wine and enjoyed it at Lake Waramaug -- the most beautiful autumn setting -- not far from home base at Constitution Oak. Bunnell Farm was nearby and they have a great corn maze. You can also stop for fresh produce, pickles and preserves at Freund Farm along the Leaf Peeping route. This B&B is in a great area with lots of local attractions nearby, including historic Litchfield. We stayed in a room upstairs and it was huge! There were 3 beds so we both had our own bed and then some. The bathroom was in the hallway but we were the only guests so it didn't matter. There was a nice dining room with pastries and coffee waiting for us in the morning and a cozy sitting room to unwind.

After COVID put everything thing on hold, we were excited to get an opportunity to do this again. We were so happy we chose the Baker House in Rhinebeck for our stay. The B&B is located within walking distance of the center of town which makes it very convenient to avoid driving or worry about getting an Uber after a night in town. The house is beautiful and sits on a sizable property. Our hosts have done a wonderful job of renovating the house and grounds. We stayed in the 'Writer's Room's which was so spacious it should be called the 'Writer's Suite'. The room also had it's own private porch/deck. The bathroom was clean and had a large double shower. The room was such an oasis of relaxation for our stay. George and Sandra were wonderful hosts and offered nice additional touches. There was a happy hour and George provided some delicious cocktails each night as well as good conversation. Sandra's breakfasts were yummy. We appreciated their insight as far as where to eat and places to see in town. After a few years of not traveling, it was great to have such a positive experience to remind us how wonderful travel could be.
