Love love love love love this place and can't recommend it enough for people looking for local swag, souvenirs, or keepsake "Austin" or "Texas" stuff!!!!! Atown's sister store but a bit more "open" feeling. The employees here were super nice and very helpful. The price of their stuff is honestly not bad for what they offer. I love picking up local shirts here. They have supee cute designs and I love the fabric. Most of them are a poly-cotton blend and this makes for a very soft feel. They also have super trendy souvenirs, clothes, glasses, socks, bags, hats, candles, soaps, jewelry, bathing suits and even kid's stuff/toys. I probably left out a bunch of other stuff they sell so make sure to go check them out yourself! I got a souvenir cup and a tshirt while I was here. I love all the different fun things they have here but most of all I love that they support local businesses. Such a strange experience. I picked up a small dress and a small skirt, along with other items. The young lady working went and grabbed mediums in the selections. I thought maybe they ran small so I said ok. But the smalls fit just fine with a little extra room. That has never happened to me, wasn't sure how to respond. read more

I went to this store on my lunch break yesterday to buy some gifts for our family. Their t-shirts are expensive. I received zero help from the employees, my time was limited and they wouldn't answer my questions. The guy, tall, tattooed, with a beard was rude. I asked him to fold the 6 t-shirts I bought the same way as they are folded on the shelves, I got an eye-roll. He did a sloppy job. I had to ask him for tissue and a ribbon. My purchase was $165 and change, not cheap. And they didn't want to gift wrap my purchase. The young woman too, I asked for some suggestions for gift ideas for Austin themed gifts, she jerked her finger towards the corner where all the Austin themed material was stacked. She just didn't want to be bothered, offer help, suggestions or make a sale. Lol. I live around the corner from this store, I am their neighbour and I felt unwelcome. I suspect my skin colour had something to do with it. Neither employee was friendly, smiled or willing to help. They made me feel like I was a nuisance. I brought it all back. I will buy gifts for my family in Italy online. It has been my experience my 6 years in Austin, that many local businesses often go out of their way to make sure that people of colour feel unwelcome. Well, these 2 employees succeeded in their mission. I brought everything back and will not return. The guy especially was so unfriendly, the sighs, the eye rolls all because I asked he do his job properly. It is unacceptable and I for one will not put up with it. I asked for the name of the manager or owner and contact information so I could lodge a complaint and the same scraggy beard, tattooed and rude guy said that I could not have this information because it was against company policy, they do not provide this information. So I discovered Blue Elephant this past Sunday while I was walking around waiting for the Paper Place to open. At first glance I thought, "Whoa, there is some pricey stuff going on in here." Then I ventured to the side of the store with all the nice lotions, soaps and candles; and found myself completely entranced. The L'Occitane de Provence hand cream might be the greatest thing ever invented. I also went through the numerous candles and diffusers, soaps and perfumes. I managed to kill a lot more time than I expected, and left with a great birthday gift for Mom. I discovered this store on accident and plan on going back for more! I didn't spend much time looking at the clothes, because I am pretty sure they are out of my price range, but I'll look more closely the next time I am in. read more

This is a really nice spacious boutique with lots to offer. They carry hair care products (such as bumble and bumble along with other harder to find brands), cosmetics (such as smashbox and bare minerals), accessories, and clothing ranging from the affordable ($5 sale items!) to the high end brand names (Marc Jacobs, seven for all man kind, joes jeans, etc). I do think some of their store brand pieces are overpriced, but just look around for a good deal. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw most of their designer jeans for just $50! Obviously the brand name products make this place a luxury for some, yet things are priced lower than in most other places. The sales girls were friendly and asked if I needed help a few times. I'm not sure how much attention you need while shopping tho so I don't understand the complaints in a few of the other reviews. I like to browse freely and just ask for help if and when I need it. Also, they carry so many different products it's hard for them to be knowledgable about every single one. It is a boutique after all, not a department store. I love this boutique! I went to Central Market 100 times before discovering this place and wish I'd seen it sooner. The sale racks outside drew me in for sure. I've already purchased a necklace and earring set for a friend there that she loved. Today I purchased 2 perfect summer tanks and seemless bras, both 2 for $15 on sale. They also carry Bare Minerals so I'll never fight a crowd at the mall to get it. Not to mention, they have a killer selection of skin care products. The staff is super friendly to top it off. Lindsay was my girl today. She helped me find what I needed, gave great advice, and made sure I knew what was on sale so I could get a free accessory too. Blue Elephant seems to have gone downhill lately. The clueless girls working there have really hurt the shopping experience. I was in there yesterday to buy more Bare Minerals make up. When they didn't have what I usually get, it was suggested to get something similar but different. I asked what the difference was and didn't get a clear answer. Then I was offered a smaller version of another item I wanted and I agreed thinking it would save me some money. When I was rung up, the girls couldn't find a price list and that one smaller item didn't have a UPC on it. So i was charged $40 more on that one smaller item. When they handed me the itemized receipt, I mentioned the expensive cost. The girls took forever to figure out how to give me a credit. Since they didn't really know what to do they re-charged everything with a lesser price for the one item, but I still think I was over charged. I just looked up that one item on the Bare Minerals website and it's listed at 1/2 of what I was charged the second time. I've been trying to call the manager today and the phone rings and rings. I blame Jessica S. for my credit card woes. Not really, but her glowing review opened my eyes to a cute new boutique that I had somehow totally missed, considering the fact that I grocery shop and lunch often at the Central Market in the same shopping center, and I get all my hair smell-pretties at the beauty store 3 doors down. As a self-proclaimed hunter of quirky, darling garments in the Austin wild, I was shamed by my own apparent inability to spot the elusive Blue Elephant in my ongoing shopping safari. Points docked for me. So when I stepped into this shabby chic, richly lit boutique, I was amazed to find Jessica S.'s helpful left brain/right brain shopping aesthetic to be quite apt. On the left hand side were all my favorite beauty care companions - Fresh, L'Occitane de Provence, Bliss, Frederic Fekkai, taking all sorts of insidious forms as candles, body scrub, shampoo, lotions, eau de toilettes. On the right hand side of the store were cute and perky AND pricey designer clothes. I was actually really impressed at how much Marc by Marc Jacobs there was. The most I had ever seen was at the mothership Neiman's in Dallas. I had to stop myself from over-ogling the lovely hoodies, Lacoste polos and legions of jeans because after all, clothes have feelings too. They were getting a little uncomfortable with my winks and lascivious gazes. I almost pinched one pair of jeans' ass. So then we come to the part of the story where I try on some jeans. I am a WHORE for jeans, especially pricey designer ones that wheedle and convince me that my butt DOES look lifted and smaller in them. The salesgal who helped me hunt and gather my denim dears was mildly annoying, though. As she pointed out jeans, then deemed them "boring" (Who am I, at age 30, to contradict a 21-year-old fashion plate with a Kim Kardashian 'tude who is sporting a parachute material gym skirt over a body suit and a Pashmina AND she pulls the look off?? NO ONE, that's who), then selected some alternates, I felt a little like Tai from Clueless; inculcated into the "in" group with some pitying looks and a new wardrobe along the way. So by the time my whirlwind jeans-trying-on experience was complete, I somehow walked out of the store with some oh-so-adorable Seven Dojo jeans in a dark wash, somewhat poorer but with a proud feeling that Kim K. approved. And let's face it, I don't want to be judged and found unworthy, especially by the "cool" kids. This is all Jessica S.'s fault. I hope you're happy. I know I will be, once I get these suckas hemmed. One star off for the priciness and the entitled Laguna Beach attitude of the salesgal. There are only so many times you can hear "SOOOOO" being used less as an adverb and more as a high-pitched territorial yip to ward off enemies before you want to run straight out the door clutching giant handfuls of your own hair. read more

Been in a few times now and realized I hadn't reviewed it yet. This place has a really great selection of makeup and beauty products, which is what I usually go in for. It's become my go-to place to swing by and grab some nail polish when I feel the need to pretty up my nails. It's also a nice place to find some great accessories or cute things to give as presents, which I've also done. However, the last time I was in there, I finally understood what all these other reviews were talking about in terms of not feeling welcome. All the other times I've been, the associates were helpful, if sometimes stand-offish, but last time I went, one of the girls was totally giving me the evil eye like I was about to steal something. I was there with a friend who had a gift card to use, but both of us felt so unwanted that we just stopped browsing and left. I used to work in retail, so I understand the need for loss-prevention, especially for things as high-value and easily-pocketable as cosmetics. But really, you drove two paying customers out of the store. And I see in other reviews it's not the first time. Please, please, please train your staff how to better handle this. My friend and I, despite being short and petite and often mistaken for students, are both professionals. And it shouldn't matter how we're dressed or how we look; you're in Austin, some of your best customers will roll in wearing yoga pants or running shorts. You guys... they have COOKIES. It's true. Nothing says "you're never going to fit into these adorable tiny dresses" like me eating a delicious chocolate chip cookie while buying jewelry. That's okay -- it's not their fault I have a fondness for cookies. This place has adorable baubles, bangles, dresses, purses, shoes, good makeup, kitschy gifts, nail polish, sunglasses, hair products. Basically everything you need as a ladddyyyy. Those things range from inexpensive (hello $5 earring bowl) to pretty pricey (looking at you Marc Jacobs bags.) If I had an unlimited bank account, I could do some serious damage here. There was a great variety of well made clothes....as well as really cool handbags. We walked in on a Friday night....very casually dressed. I'm sure that I wasn't dressed like I could afford to shop there, but was ready to buy boots, jeans and a bag - fully expecting to spend $500 or more. We were barely acknowledged by the two sales clerks. One was trying on makeup the entire time I shopped. Like I said I had intended to buy more, but was not helped AT ALL! Not even a "can I help you find a size" as a friend and I dug through the jeans. I ended up buying a LAMB bag because it was on sale and I loved it, but I was definitely disappointed by my experience here. Not sure if I will go back or not... hopefully the sales staff will step it up a notch. Oh, and I typically like to be left alone for the most part when I shop, but I do expect a little respect and an effort to be made to help. I am glad there are more moderately priced boutiques in Austin lately. Let the dads watch after the kids at the Central Market playground while you can leisurely peruse cute picture frames, candles, soaps and clothing and accessories. This small store is jam packed with just about everything. There is a huge wall of soaps for your head and body. There are also cute stationary and other small items perfect for stocking stuffers. I really like the clothes here. They carry some lower end merchandise, with their store logo, as well as well more popular designer names such as Citizens for Humanity, Marc Jacobs, etc. The store carries similar merchandise as Luxe in the Domain. My only wish is that they carried size XS for us petite women. My only hesitation for not giving them a 4-star rating is that I did not feel welcomed when I went in. The doors were opened and I walked around the store for at least 20 minutes before any sales person (there were at least 3 present in the store) even said a word to me. Perhaps I'm wrong, but smaller boutiques cannot compete with big national box stores on pricing, instead they provide great customer service. Here the staff was not as helpful as I had hoped. I am a strong supporter of local retail stores so I will definitely be back. I hope the customer services improves so they can get the great rating they deserve. read more

The super expensive clothing selection is oddly disconnect with the table full of trashy cheap jewelry. I thought it was so weird when I looked through keychains and found several Marc Jacobs ones well over $50 amidst cheap ugly other designer jewelry knockoffs. I would respect the store more if they had uniform quality throughout. It's not like they carry ELF next to those high end cosmetics. Why should they carry a big plate of JUNK right in the middle of the store? They don't need to do that, not with Francesca's two store fronts down. Blue Elephant is what I envision when I think of Los Angeles shopping. Well, Los Angeles shopping if you're rich and have nothing more pressing to do during the day than buy new clothes. But as fancy schmancy pricy as this boutique is, the vibe is actually pretty laid back and the sales women are completely without attitude. Which is good, because I always fear that as I walk in, hair in a messy bun, wearing an old navy hoodie, that I'll get the Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman treatment (before Richard Gere lavishes her with gifts and makes her a "proper" woman). But the sales girls are totally cool. Whewsh. They have pretty much any designer jeans you could want (besides Paige, sigh) - Joe's Jeans, Chip & Pepper, Rock & Republic, etc. and several styles/washes within each brand. They also have plenty of cute clothes from smaller designers - i.e. unknown to me, but hella cool and expensive, ranging from tank tops to dresses, purses to boots- and items from L.A.M.B. and Anna Sui. I have seen a few items from Roxy, however, so there are $50 finds to be had here. Also at the store: Jewlery, makeup, cute homewear (mainly colorful picture frames), and other random items. I bought a bracelet and pack of "stuff on my cat" postcards here the other day, so there are cheaper items. True, I've never actually bought the clothes here but love to browse the selection (cough, cough, and then buy the jeans on ebay), and the employees will give you great suggestions and are super knowledgeable. But I am going back tomorrow to buy a dress that I saw - partly because there's no way it's on ebay, and partly cause the sales girls and the store is just so damn cool that I feel I must. This place has perfected the balance of reasonably priced with good quality and varied style. Blue elephant has been my go to for new togs, special event dresses, funky jewelry, etc. Ladies of all styles and preferences are highly likely to find something that fits their repertoire as the store has everything from on the cutting edge of haute fashion (interesting cuts, layering, Marc Jacobs, etc), to classic and timeless dresses and tops (more my style...I'm boring). It can always be a little daunting to walk in as the place does appear to be full to the brim with clothes not in the most organized fashion, however, sales associates are always helpful, friendly and never give you that "just buy something" feeling. There are other boutiques on this row, Francescas, to point on out---which highlights Blue Elephant's more elevated quality standards. As some note in previous reviews, you definitely get a similar smattering of offerings to Luxe Apothetique which is never a bad thing. All and all, I'm a fan. read more

Had to check out this trendy boutique after reading all the reviews. Well and maybe for the fact that I'm such a shop-a-holic too. The store collection consisted of a variety of merchandise beginning with hair products and skin care. Further down the shelves were lots of aromatic candles and bath products. Thought someone had mentioned that Lush stuff was sold here but found that rumor to be untrue. Damn! Oooh and was I in jean heaven again. So many Sevens, Joe's, and Citizens that appeared in different styles then the ones I had seen at Hem less then a month ago. I feel like I'm cheating on my store, Hem, by saying that I thought some of these were equally as sexy as their stock but service at this boutique definitely doesn't compare to theirs. Perplexed by the plastic cheap jewelry as much as the other Yelpper in previous reviews. Didn't mix with their montage of high end clothes and nice jewelry. Handbag selection was kind of skimpy but that's because I'm a handbag whore who's used to swimming in them at Nemon's. Loved the dress I bought to rock the town as it's super trendy and only cost me $30. I know, I'm shocked too! Something in that store was actually only $30! My favorite area to browse was the little gifts and knick Knacks. So many fun things that you don't need but just have to have because their so cute. Almost reminded me of Claire's but more age appropriate and nicer. Favorite thing was a flask that had a picture of a old fashion lady on the outside of it and read, "Why yes, I am that kind of woman." Too funny. BTW, make sure you snag a free cookie at the register as their complementary for being a sucker and dropping big bucks at their store. Ok, so that's not what the sign said but you know that's why they're there. The only reason I'm not giving this boutique 5 stars is due to the service. I got the courtesy "hello" and "I can hold that for you at the register" but other then that not much else. I don't need to be hovered over but be a little more warm and act like you want my business. They also sell Frederic Fekkai, which is amazing! I had so much fun with the jewelry selection! The husband got me a funky, fun ring for my birthday there and they put it in the cute, whimsical leopard bag for me! The staff were two sweet, young, Austinicious gals that loved their store and were so proud of it and were really representing their store. They also had THE BEST deal on OPI nail polish in town!! They carry the entire line of Deborah Lippmann nail polish (other places I've shopped only carry half the colors) 2. People aren't in my face too much, but they are around when I need them. And they are MUCH nicer than their brethren up north. Selection: All the brands I need, including Mario Badescu and Bumble and Bumble! And I like the brands they carry like Ella Moss. You can also almost always find something on sale there. I don't know if the owner or buyer and I just have the exact same taste, or if the selection is broad enough to make every woman feel this way, but I always find at least ten things here I want. I can't always afford them, but at least I can dream. To that end, there's a nice range of prices, too, especially in jewelry and accessories. And as an added kudos to the store, I had a Groupon to use and it had expired, but they still honored it. 99 percent of the clothing in this store is WAAAAY out of my price range - Anna Sui, Marc Jacobs, See by Chloe - you know, rich girl stuff. But I hold the belief that a good pair of jeans is an investment, and I had a great experience buying denim here. They've got an impressive selection of fancy denim brands, and there's even a sale denim rack in the back with loads of jeans marked up to half off. I spent an hour or so rifling through all the jeans in the store, looking for the perfect pair of dark wash, non-distressed, medium-rise, boot cut jeans. The girl with the long red hair (maybe the owner or manager?) was really helpful and didn't seem to mind that I was taking armloads of 10 pairs of pants at a time into the dressing room with me. I ended up with a fabulous pair of Joe's jeans, and the girl who was helping me gave me a few coupons for the tailor. (Being 5'2", I gotta hem mah pants.) As much as I would like to, I doubt I would come to this shop to buy any other clothing, unless I suddenly landed on a giant pile of cash. MAYBE if I had a really special occasion I needed a dress for. But the denim selection is one of the best I've seen in Austin, and the service was great. read more

They drew us in with a promotion featuring free food and drinks. The catering service provided a far more impressive spread than I was expecting. Fruit, cheese, desserts, rollups, wine, and punch in large quantities. We skipped dinner after. I went with two women. The one who recently moved from LA said that this store was similar to places in LA. The other also liked the selection of clothes and bought a pair of jeans. Really cool place! It's like a miniature Urban Outfitters. Be ready to pay sixty bucks for a blouse. They have a few changing rooms where tall curtains surround you. There wasnt any hooks in mine!
