Blue Goose has various fruits and veggies, but specializes in mandarins. There are fresh mandarins when in season, but my favorite things are the glass jars of frozen mandarin juice (typically available year round.). Thaw to drink or use in recipes and marinade. Our favorite thing is to thaw the juice only slightly and eat it with a spoon. It is like the best sweet, tart and vividly flavored Icee in the world. The shop also has canned jellies, nuts, candies, gifts and decor from various local businesses and craftspersonds. Check out the freezer section for homemade pies to bake at house. Blue Goose Produce is open the whole calendar year. It's located on Taylor Rd in downtown Loomis, so it's one of the most convenient locations to sample and buy seasonal Mandarin Oranges. As of 11/19/25, which is early season, you can buy a 4 lb bag for $10. While I was there, one farmer was sorting the oranges out by size. Apparently, the medium ones are the most popular. You could buy small ones for $1.50 per pound. Mandarins were attractive and juicy. Update: It's the sweetest and easiest to peel of the three different bags I bought on 11/19/25. Blue Goose Produce is associated with Westview Growers. If I remember correctly, there are 1500 mandarin orange trees in their orchards, so you can buy mandarins there until April! Farmers are friendly and informative to chat with. In October 2025, I believe I spoke with the owner Mark about the Blue Goose decor. One antiquities specialist soon found him a large metallic goose after he requested it. He painted it dark blue himself. This goose gets outfit changes to match the holiday! His family has been collecting blue goose decor over many years, which you can find throughout the store. I learned that a female goose can just be called a goose. A male goose is a gander, and Gander Taphouse is in the same plaza. Yesterday I learned that mandarin oranges taste better a day or longer after they have been picked. It takes time for them to sweeten. You can find a variety of local farm goods here, such as honey, scented candles, Earth & Vine products, local Newcastle Mandarin Ranch products, and Petaluma Creamery cheeses. You can buy pies here. I might call ahead to ask about available flavors. You can find limited produce here. I've bought a large tomato, finger grapes, and a ruby grapefruit here. This is a really cute vintage looking grocery store. It literally takes you back to the older times in a small town everything looks fresh like they just picked it. When I was walking in I saw a man taking some fresh produce inside the store . They have so many local products to choose from. I love supporting any small businesses. I also know that it's really good and fresh made in the same town or near areas . They have a little kids corner literally a kids corner with coloring books and things to entertain the kiddos while you shop . The inside keeps the same vintage feel throughout the store. And some of the stuff they have little samples that you could try before buying like the peanuts and other things. This is definitely a cute store to check out when you're in the area. The best place in Placer county to find fresh Mandarins. All sweet and easy to peel as well as being seedless.

Located in the town of Loomis, you'll find this gem known as Blue Goose Produce. It was a stop on our way back to Sacramento from Nevada. This was my first time here, and it was fully stocked when we arrived mid-afternoon. According to some reviews, their stock is seasonal, so call ahead to be sure. There are a good amount of parking stalls directly in front of the store. I didn't check prices, but I'd imagine they are reasonable since this is a locally-owned small business. The lady working behind the counter was very nice, and the store was very well kept. The fruits being sold looked fresh, which is what we all like! They do have a restroom to the right, behind the black latched door. Keep it latched, as the sign says. I would come again if passing through the area. I recommend it for sure! read more

I don't think you can get much fresher than having live growing mandarins by the front door of this store... Going inside, though, there's plenty of other produce... including more mandarins and lots of other stuff - much of which is grown locally. There are other interesting and unique items like local honey, eggs, sauces and marinades and more. Very fun place to just browse around! Keep in mind that since most if not all of the produce is locally grown, it tends to be seasonal. They don't ship stuff up from Mexico or Ecuador or whatever just to keep the shelves stocked. There's still plenty to shop for during the off-season(s)... don't get me wrong... but knowing the scoop on the produce is a good thing. read more

The Blue Goose Produce is a quaint speciality store that sells fresh local produce. They also sell their own line of sauces and marinades, in addition to local honey, cheese, olive oil, dried fruits, sauces, jams, and marinades from various farms. The store is north of High Hand nursery and like High Hand nursery, the building is in a renovated packing warehouse. When I visited, mandarins and fuyu persimmons were in season. 5 pound bag of mandarins for $8. The persimmons were $1.99 per pound. The pricing was affordable, cheaper than some grocery stores. The cashier was friendly and knowledgeable about the majority of the products. read more

This is a provisional review. I did not realize that for a good chunk of the year they do not have fresh produce. Or much of it. I will have to go back in June, when they have enough fresh produce. I arrived to find the shelves mostly barren. See my picture. I ended up buying four navel oranges, $1 worth of carrots and three cosmetically challenged tomatoes. The oranges were meh. I had missed results on the carrots. The tomatoes were the best, but they were nothing to go out of your way to get. The sign out front lists pies for sale. I found some frozen meringue pies. Not what I expected. The guy who worked there was nice enough. After leaving the store I went to Newcastle Produce and they had no local produce, either. It was either from elsewhere in California or from out of the state. A lot was from out of the country. read more

Blue Goose Produce is just north of the downtown area of the little town of Loomis. They are located in one of the old fruit packing sheds that have thankfully been restored and re-purposed. They are a part of what gives Loomis its unique identity and charm. Blue Goose carries various locally grown produce as well as other locally sourced items like free-range eggs, organic breads, jams and honey. While they are not a large market, they make up for it in the quality of the items that they do carry and a very helpful and friendly staff. I typically come here seasonally for the Owari Satsumas (mandarin oranges). I believe that they come from the owner's own orchard in Newcastle. They are my favorite of all the citrus fruits. They have a very short season that begins early to mid November and when they are gone that's it until the following season. You cannot just pop-in to the chain grocery stores and find these little gems next to the year round fruits that originate south of the border. Quite the gem. The produce, especially the fruit, Is easily some of the best in California which is to say the world. Try their mandarin bbq sauce, also amazing. Their eggs are local And reasonably priced. When they have beef it comes locally from Newcastle and is some of the best I've had. The guy I see usually working there is salt of the earth nicest guy and kind of looks like Johny Cash. I will be deeply saddened if this place ever ever changes or goes away. Super friendly and educated staff! My son has extreme allergies, we are literally trying everything. Someone told us to go grab some local honey. Believe it or not, everyone around has "local" honey but it's not really local...it's like Sonoma or Sac stuff. You see, the remedy calls for honey from true local so that the user can help build their immunity up to local pollens. I probably butchered that explanation, talk to my wife...like I said we are trying everything....Well This place had it! We stocked up...will definitely be back to get some pepper jelly read more
