I heard about this spot a couple years back from my SIL but never made the time to go. Now that my three youngest kids eat strawberries like they're candy and it was Mother's Day it seemed like the best time to go! Although, it was a bit of a drive for us coming from Sacramento/Elk Grove we were able to maximize our time there. The strawberry farm is family owned and located not too far from other businesses in the area if you wanted to find something to eat or find somewhere else to hang out afterwards. There was a food truck, Laopino, that had delicious lumpias, music, a bubble machine, plus a few games and activities to keep the little ones occupied, and shaded tables to enjoy your fresh harvests. :) Tickets are only available online. Weekend tickets are released on Thursdays at 7 pm. When choosing our date and time it shows we only had an hour to pick but really we got to take our time and enjoy our morning. I feel they show you have a one hour slot to help stagger guests in. I love how they had a little gift shop set up, another tent with fresh flowers, drinks, and beautiful cookies at the register to purchase. The strawberry fields had plenty to choose from. We saw lots of bright red ones varying from all sizes. The staff also informed us there were 6 types of strawberries being grown! My kids enjoyed only for a short while and mainly wanted to stay in the kid area. There are also plenty of photo ops on the farm too! We would absolutely return in the future. I saw Granny Mays on an Insta ad and I immediately clicked on it to make a rezie! My daughter LOVES, I'm talking about lovesssss strawberries so picking fresh berries is right up our activity alley. Being able to include her in picking the strawberries then taking them home to eat fresh off the vine was everything and more. On the day we went (reservation on a Saturday from 10-11am) the cost for adults was $12 per person. This includes a small basket per person. They offer 6 different varieties of strawberries, yup you read that right. I had no idea there were more than one variety, so this educational part was cool. The farm can get crowded and with this Sac heat, I highly recommend scheduling your reservation early and on a weekday. The farm is family owned and everyone is so nice. This is a great place for memories to be made. It was a beautiful day, so I decided to take my family to this adorable farm. They are family owned- and yes, many locals gate keep this farm as it gets busy, quick! They do not use any pesticides and their fruits are so very delicious!! It's so family oriented and friendly, the vibe truly feels like you're visiting grandma in her massive backyard. The berries do need to be cleaned because of dirt and dust but It was so good I couldn't resist eating a few before I went home to wash them. The family here is very sweet and friendly. I really like the idea but I personally felt the price was steep for the You-Pick berries. $18 bought me only about 39oz or 2.4lbs. That's about $7.50 per pound. Traditional "you-pick" farms charge less than what they sell the fruit for because they are getting free labor for people coming to pick. This farm instead charges more, for the experience itself. There weren't other special kid activities going on or anything else fun. And when the website advertised the 64oz containers, the photo made the container look larger. I filled my little basket to the very top, practically overflowing, and it still only held 2.4lbs of berries (I weighed on my scale in photo*) They actually sell pre-picked berries up front at a cheaper price. So if price is what matters to you, those might be a better choice. read more

I was finally able to buy tickets for Granny May's. I've always tried to buy tickets, but they always sell out fast. You need tickets in advance to pick strawberries. They have 3 different time slots to choose from which starts at 9am. Adult price $17 and children $9 for U-Pick. They also sell a few other veggies, jellies, jams, preserves and honey as well as pre picked strawberries I think you have to pre order for the pre picked strawberries though. When you arrive you check in first you will get your basket and wash your hands before picking. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful. The Strawberry farm is huge with 9 different varieties of strawberries. I actually ended up purchasing another ticket to be able to try all varieties of strawberries as the baskets the give you will fill up fast unless you know how to play Tetris with the fruit in basket which I think I did pretty well. I had a great time and will definitely do this again hopefully it won't be too long as the ticket sell out all the time. My strawberries were huge sweet and delicious totally worth the price. I've been here twice last year and both times was amazing. There are different variety's of strawberries and they all taste great! Probably one of the best strawberry picking experience I've had. The only thing is that the price is pretty hefty. Due to inflation probably, they increased the price to $17/pp for strawberry picking (includes the bucket that you can fill to pick strawberries) One thing I wish was different is that everyone in your party will need to get a ticket to enter. We have a family of 6 and that's too many strawberries to take home. We wished there was a separate option for an entry ticket and for the bucket so people can share a bucket if they would like. We visited here on Sunday around 2pm in early summer. The cashier let us did the u-pick although we didn't booked an appointment since it wasn't too busy. The bucket for kid was rather small for the price. The adult bucket was ok. They have maps of different varieties of strawberries and we picked both types. Some of the lanes near the back of the farm were muddy. But we managed to filled our buckets. Some of the strawberries were very jammy & sweet and some were red but not sweet. It is the first ever U-Pick farm I've ever been to, and I loved the experience I had here! The field was wide, and there were just so much strawberry aisles that I didn't get a chance to go through all of them as it was hot during the time I went, but there were so many beautiful, red strawberries! We had so much fun at Granny Mays today! We spent about an hour picking berries with our toddler. She had a great time running around and picking berries. The berries were sweet and tasty. Customer service was kind and friendly. They gave away little flags, headbands and treats for July 4th. We also bought some flowers from the stand. Great Experience! we made reservations online to purchase tickets and I took my granddaughters. We arrived and checked-in , we each got a bucket to pick and fill how FUN! Rows and Rows of different variety of strawberries , huge and sweet so delicious. You can purchase buckets (check prices and reservation details online) and pick your own strawberries (different varieties) and blackberries! What a great place! I bought our tickets online. It was $15 for Adults and $9 for kids, with that you get buckets to fill up with strawberries you get to take home. It also reserved a time slot for us. When I pulled into the parking lot there was lots of parking. We walked up and was greeted by an employee who then checked us in. She gave us our buckets and we got to go explore. There are about 10 different strawberries this year. We went around and picked until our buckets were full. After we were finished I asked the employee if she would take a picture of my kids and I. She was very kind and did it. She then boxed up our strawberries. They have a fruit stand that we went to. They have some beautiful flowers, fruit, veggies, homemade jam, etc. We picked up a few things. They do have a porta potty with sink. There are a few tables and places to take photos. Strawberry picking at Granny May's is such a fun time. We have gone a couple times over the last couple years and have very much enjoyed each visit. My kids both love strawberries and would eat them off the vine if I let them. The amount of strawberries you get in each basket is actually quite a bit. I felt like the experience + the amount of strawberries you can fit in your bucket is a great deal. They also have beautiful flowers, yummy cherries, and soap for sale. My best friend and I had a great time picking delicious strawberries at Granny Mays just a couple days ago! It was their last day for now for U-Pick Strawberries. We're so glad we had the opportunity to go! The process to reserve tickets was a bit convoluted: we called and were told to check out the most recent post on their Facebook account to reserve tickets online. Because of COVID-19, Granny Mays is operating on a timed ticket/timed entry basis. They allow 1 hour in the farm from the start of the ticket entrance time. It's rare that you'll physically run into anyone on the farm as it is so large and capacity is limited. Granny Mays has several strawberry varieties in their field, all of which are used for different reasons (some are good for covering in chocolate, some are good for jams, etc.). We picked a mix of all kinds of strawberries. Ooh boy, they are so evidently juicy. You can't eat them while picking them and I honestly didn't want to with all the dirt involved! Some tips for next time: 1) wear shoes-- I wore sandals and got dirt everywhere and my sandal even fell off! 2) sunscreen/hats are a must-- It got really hot and I wish I had a hat with me. 3) tread carefully-- Lots of wasps and bees are buzzin around. I know Granny Mays is closed for strawberry picking for now, but they are open again in July for blackberry picking. Strawberry picking has become a special tradition that me and my kids have been enjoying since the time they started walking. There's nothing like picking fresh, juicy, and sweet strawberries (natures candy) and here at Granny May's, our tradition continues. We usually pick at Swanton Farm when visiting family in San Francisco, but due to the pandemic, we chose to keep family safe and pick here at Granny May's, one of the closest U-Pick farms from Reno (2 hours). Granny May's is taking the steps to ensure good, safe fun at the farm. Reservation are required ahead of time (follow their page on Facebook for available dates and visit their website to purchase tickets) to ensure the number of people are limited so as to enable social distancing. Everyone is required to wash their hands before entering the field and there is a 1 hour time slot for picking. You pay admission and they supply buckets/boxes. Admission also includes all the strawberries you can fit in your bucket/boxes. *Adults (17 years old and up) : $12 *Children (4-17 years old):$6 *Ages 4 years and younger are free and one pint basket provided. They also have a farm stand with seasonal veggies and fruits available. Call ahead of time to make sure they're open and to see what's available. They are open until they sell out. When I visited I saw: watermelons, jams, strawberries, blackberries, green beans, garlic, pickles & tomatoes. I tasted their watermelon and it was super sweet and so juicy that when I cut it, it leaked all over my counter. Their jams were so fresh and tasty. Other Notes: *Tickets sell out fast *There's a nice patch of sunflowers and a cute giant strawberry background you can take pictures in front of. *Two big trees available for shade *Plenty of Parking, some shaded *If you're visiting with kids, they may get restless in the heat so visiting right when the U-Pick season begins and/or visiting early morning will make all the difference. Came here on Wednesday 04/27/22 at noon. I checked Granny Mays Facebook page to see when exactly ticket sales occur and there is a link you can click on and you choose the date you want to attend and pay online. Upon arrival, there is a check in area and you have to show your confirmation code and then you are given a bucket. There are two sizes for the bucket, adult and children. They have different types of strawberries you can pick from and there are signs to let you know the type. The strawberries you pick when you are all done are transferred from the bucket to an open box tray. There is also a cute produce and flower shop. The fields are beautiful, the weather was perfect and the strawberries are delish. We will definitely be coming back again next time! read more
