This is the second year we have used Birds Nest for our annual float trip. We like Birds Nest for 3…read moremain reasons: 1. The people are friendly and efficient. 2. They are flexible when the size of your group changes. They ask you for a deposit of 1/2 of what you approximate your group to be, and then when you arrive, you pay the remaining for who actually showed up. It is a flat rate per person, not per size of boat and number of boats like at neighboring float trip places. This makes for easy planning. 3. The float is about 4-6 hours, depending on water level and how many times you stop. There is an AMAZING cold spring and cave about 1/4 of the way through the trip that is a must-stop. We will likely return to Birds Nest.

They have a cancellation fee on Hotels.com they waited until the free cancellation window expired before calling me. Thereby, costing me money either way I went. They would not honor the Hotels.com price and the male kept yelling in the background at me during the call. Their excuse was that THEY had not updated things before taking a January vacation. So their mistake costs me money. Also very rude. Will never consider doing business with them again.

The pictures on their website and on Trip Advisor were great and we could tell that we were going to be staying at a really cool place. Boy were we surprised upon arrival. The pictures do not do this place justice as the property is stunning and the house is spectacular. We stayed in the Patio Suite, but upon arrival, we were greeted by Gary, one of the owners, and he offered to show us the main level that has three full bedrooms and bathrooms, living room, gourmet kitchen, dining room and a full deck that has an amazing view of the Missouri River and farmland below as the house sits atop one of the highest points on 4th street. One of the bedroom suites even has a wheelchair accessible bathroom. Marsha and Gary have done such an amazing job decorating the house. The Patio Suite was like having a full size apartment to ourselves. When you enter, the bathroom is straight ahead. It offers a walk in shower and has a hot tub sized jacuzzi tub. This was such a nice feature to have at the end of the day after having a relaxing and fun day visiting the local wineries. To your left, there was a full living area with a couch, two chairs and an electric fire place. There was also a desk area as well. Off of that, was the bedroom area that had curtains you could pull for added privacy, in case you were sharing the suite for your stay. There was a kitchen area that had beautiful cabinets, a sink, mini fridge, microwave, toaster oven and many other conveniences. Marsha and Gary have beautifully decorated this suite with what appears to be items they have collected from their travels over the years. There is also a bookcase with many wonderful books and they also have a Bose CD player and many CDs to listen to while relaxing. As the name mentions, you have a covered patio off your suite with a beautiful view of the river and a grill as well. While there you are welcome to explore their gardens and also enjoy the fire pit that is located at the edge of the property overlooking the river. We will stay at Spirit Hill every time that we come back to Hermann as this was a fantastic place to stay and it is owned by fantastic people. We will recommend this to any friends or family making a trip to Hermann.

Wanda and Sandy were wonderful and the breakfasts she cooked were huge and delicious...from fresh fruit to farm fresh eggs, a pile of bacon, cinnamon rolls, muffins, toast...it was incredible. Highly recommend this B&B if you're ever in the St James area. And to top it off, my wife got to see her very first cardinal. We were sitting outside on their sun porch the first morning when Sandy's sister made us a wonder breakfast and my wife got to see about 5 cardinals coming to their bird feeder...It was just an all around pleasant stay.
