Do you consider yourself a nature person? If so, I highly recommend the Boreas Pass experience. If…read morenot, it might be a really boring drive. As nature lovers, we've done it twice. I can't imagine being in Breckenridge in the fall and not experiencing Boreas Pass. If the aspen trees are turning, there's no better way to spend an afternoon. You can do it as quickly or as leisurely as you like for us. It has taken us about 4 hours. From Breckenridge, in the fall, I wouldn't leave after noon to get started. We love to stop and take pictures and get out and walk a little bit too. We've done it in the fall with the Aspen's turning yellow, and I can't recommend it enough. If you complete the whole drive, you'll experience quite a bit of elevation change. This last time when we were returning to Breckenridge the tire pressure indicator light in the car turned on after we had finished the drive and we're headed back to Breckenridge. There are gas stations with air pumps but they are few and far between. It might be a good idea to stop and put air in your tires in Fairplay, CO before making the drive back to the town you are visiting. (Assuming, here, that locals don't need to read Yelp reviews for Boreas Pass). We ate at Otto's Food Cart in Alma, CO, but then had to head back to FairPlay, CO where the original Otto's restaurant is located to put air in our tires. Next time we might check out Otto's in FairPlay and air up our tires around the corner before heading back to Breck. September 2024

Arrived at 5:40 am. Only a handful of cars in the parking lot. Lot is not very big. There is no…read morebathrooms in the lot and also no trashcans. If you need to go to bathroom pop over to elbert or one of the bathrooms along the road/way to get to the trailhead. Otherwise be sure to plan on packing out what you pack in. Trail is actually 14.5 miles per 14ers.com. So be prepared that this is longer than what all trails states. This is the standard route for this peak. This trail is well maintained and in good shape. Trail is currently in summer conditions. Basically this is just a REALLY LONG trail with a lot of elevation gain. There is nothing technical about it. When you get to the ridge there is still a pretty well defined trail. You will have to step over some rocks but nothing bad. The inclining meadow leading up to the ridge though seems to go on forever! Bring plenty of water, food, O2, and be prepared. If you are bringing your dogs. Pack out their poop bags! Also keep them on a leash! Saw pica, marmots and some birds i had not seen before. No goats though. I did this in 6 hours total hiking time but was moving at a fairly fast clip.

We started at the Leadville Hatchery and the weather looked gorgeous...and then it didn't, Lack of any trail made matters shall we say a tad more difficult. Dillon Reservoir, sometimes referred to as Lake Dillon, is located in Summit County, Colorado, south of I-70 and bordered by the towns of Frisco, Silverthorne, and Dillon. It is a reservoir for the city of Denver, and its waters are under the control of Denver Water. Popular ski areas are close to the reservoir, including Copper Mountain, Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, and Breckenridge. During the winter months, ice fishing and snowmobiling are common activities. For warmer months, the towns of Dillon and Frisco each have marinas on the reservoir. The Dillon Marina is open pretty much during the season and hundreds of sailboats can be seen docked or sailing. Due to Dillon Reservoir's proximity to the towns of Dillon, Silverthorne, and Frisco, the lake has many lodging, camping, and RV facilities. The reservoir has a popular 18 miles paved bike path that winds around the entire reservoir. The path can be accessed at any point around the reservoir. The views from any angle are worth the drive to this beautiful lake.

Just a heads up: it can be very icy, so definitely wear snow boots or sturdy protective shoes (I slipped a few times ). Overall, totally worth it and I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area.

Recently visited Loveland Pass on our way back from Breckenridge. We drove to the top instead of…read morehiking. On the way up, we saw some light snow flurries, and by the time we reached the top, it was actively snowing. The scenery is absolutely stunning definitely a must-see if you're in the area. Just a heads-up: it can get icy and slippery, so be careful while walking around. Overall, it's a beautiful spot and perfect for enjoying the snowy mountain views! Plus it's free!

We arrived in bus so no issues We arrived with nothing to sled but figured we can play in snow. As I walked @ more I noticed they had a section of sleds available, you use, and put back! We found one and as time went by other kids were leaving more behind and managed to enjoyed a whole hour.

Otherwise, you're a prime candidate to catch a lightning bolt. If you continue to Torreys it is a significant descent, ascent. If you're not sleeping on Torreys summit, the redescent reascent could prove significant. It's a semi-arduous 8-12 miles. I was here in a snow storm and there was still shelving at play. Grizzly is not horribly intimidating, but earned its name for a reason. Reminder: it's a great idea to summit and be off the mountain by noon unless you're well versed in the generally unpredictable world of mountain weather.

It is straight up 1700 feet...you can figure the slope but trust me with the 60mph winds, snow and ice, oh yeah trail head starts at 12,000 feet....You gonna feel it aight? Stunningly gorgeous views: Pristine snow capped mountains, white valleys, oh yeah the crazy guy doing it 3 times to prep for Nepal.....yep ya gots to be a tad cray to hike this in the winter.....that be me!

Alpine lakes are my passion. So when I made a mission to hit the trails and relax next to all the…read morealpine bodies of water I could, I added Shelf Lake to the list, and I'm glad I did! Why? Let's break it down. 1. At 7.4 miles and 2,000+ feet of elevation gain, it's bound to get your heart pumping without being too strenuous. I completed the out-and-back trail in just under 3.5 hours. 2. Parts of the trail along Smelter Gulch follows a creek, and until the last mile or so towards the lake it is shaded as well. Makes for a chilly morning for early risers like me, but a great way to beat the afternoon sun for those that like a later start! 3. Wildlife? Check! While I missed out, the group ahead of me saw a moose cow and calf on the trail. There were plenty of pica and marmots too! 4. Wildflowers? Check! While I did this hike towards the "end" of wildflower season, there were still more than enough wildflowers to ooh and awe over. 5. There is ample first come, first served camping along the road, so why not make a weekend of it? Some sites on the South-West side of the road were much more exposed, but they can all host a large group! Shelf Lake was a wonderful way to get some fresh air during the week! **Pro Tip: The road to the trail head is pretty bumpy. You need a vehicle with a bit more than average ground clearance to ensure you aren't zigzagging all over trying to find the flattest route.
