The Blue Line connects the airport to downtown, so it's very useful for visiting Boston. It's an historic ride that takes you under Boston Harbor, it used to be a streetcar tunnel. Don't waste your money on a taxi or Uber, it's easy to take the free bus to the airport stop, then ride downtown to the Government Center, Bowdoin, or the Aquarium (depending on where your hotel is closest to). You can also ride to a stop called "Wonderland," but remember, one pill makes you smaller, one pill makes you large, and the ones your mother gives you don't do anything at all. read more

Our hotel shuttle had the Airport T station as their stop so we could get dropped off and picked up daily. We would take the Boudin direction to get to Aquarium Stop or mainly Government Center to switch to the Green Line. The end of the line Boudin had an out of service escalator covered in dried maple leaves. In the other direction back to our originating stop in the morning we'd take the train going in the Wonderland direction, I never saw any restrooms in the T stations so if that is the case don't enter or board without taking care of that need prior. Very easy straight line. Stops are announced. Best transportation for $2+ a ride til you reach your final destination, it doesn't matter the distance or changing lines. Buy a round trip for added ease returning from any station. One card can be used for two riders. You could load $$ onto it too but keep it safe so you don't lose it. read more

It's official, I have been to and Yelped every station on Boston's Blue Line. This station likely gets the most riders from Government Center to the Airport, but I decided to ride the six miles from Bowdoin to Wonderland today and even get outside. There are two extensions planned for the Blue Line and both would be excellent uses of MBTA funding. Extending another five miles north to Lynn would garner even more ridership though I'm guessing that it would cannibalize quite a lot of the Wonderland parking. There is also a proposal to extend to the Charles MGH Station and that would certainly make connecting to Cambridge a hell of a lot easier as it currently requires two changes (State to Downtown Crossing or Government Center to Park Street) to do so. The Blue Line had always seemed somewhat otherworldly to me. Stations with exotic names like Wood Island, Orient Heights and of course "Wonderland" straight out of the Twilight Zone. The Blue Line is the only subway line in Boston which draws electricity from overhead or "catenary" wires. The train shuts down at the Airport where it switches from third rail to overhead power. Doors make a loud chiming noise when opening and closing. The Blue Line follows the shoreline past Constitution Beach which is one of the most charming urban beaches that I have seen with trees, grass, picnic tables, bathhouse, playground and planes taking off from a runway across the water. Perfect for kids. It is just a very short walk from the ancient, run-down Orient Heights Station which has not changed according to one bus driver "since the days of Al Capone". Right next to Beachmont Station in Revere are the Suffolk Downs Horse Stables. We used to shop at the Beachmont Shaws and my grand kids enjoyed watching the horses through holes in the wooden fence. Unfortunately that very convenient Shaws has closed but the horse stables remain and often the down on the farm smell of horse manure can be noticed at the Beachmont T stop when the wind is right . Wonderland Station is close to a Stop and Shop and nearby are several sleazy nightclubs. And then there was the infamous dog track which has since closed down. More throwbacks to the days when gangsters ruled East Boston and Revere. When not shuttle busing from Government to Maverick, which now occurs every weekend, the Blue Line provides an easy and fast ride. The trains are small and very clean compared to the Red Line (where one might find Styrofoam boxed meals stashed under a seat). Train operators seem to be nicer than operators of the Red Line. I think the Blue line is a GREAT way to get from the Airport to anywhere in town you need (you might have to do a few transfers) in Boston. The distance from the airport to the city center is a little over 3 miles. When I rode the taxi, I ended up paying, with tip and toll fees, around $33. I bought 2 Charlie cards for 7 days, paid $30 for both and ended up using it all over town and riding back to the airport on the Blue line for probably pennies compared to what I spent on a taxi. It was more convenient, did not get caught in traffic and the ride was smooth and spacious. Great line! read more

Up until about two years ago I took the blue line for my daily commute and still use it a couple of times a month to run errands in East Boston. Today while exiting at Government Center (Green line) I noticed that there was a problem with the Blue line and that they were running shuttle buses. The shuttle bus that I had the opportunity to observe was way overcrowded to the point that they were shoving the last passengers onto the bus. In my fifteen years of living in the area, this was by far the most tightly packed bus I have ever seen. I am concerned that given that we are in the middle of a spike during this pandemic that the overcrowded bus could easily become a super spreader on wheels. For public health and safety issues steps should have been taken to prevent the overcrowding. read more

Right now three (3) stars b/c over the years/post Big Dig it has gone downhill. First up on 8/10/17--mid-day I ran for and boarded an inbound train (into Boston) at Orient Heights. At Wood Island we stopped/driver said we were being held/then updated and said it was "for a medical emergency further down the line." Then my text alerts started--saying there was a medical emergency at Orient Heights/which puzzled me b/c we were just there. Summary: It was at the Heights, on the outbound side, they held us 45 minutes--Shuttle buses arrived as late usual about the same time the line went back online & as usual chaos with the regular MBTA buses pulling in. Generally when it comes to shuttle buses on the Blue Line -- this is a chronic issue--yes it's the airport line but please note -- Massport will send their own Paul Revere operated buses for the airport folks--the rest of us will be stranded for awhile--at least a half hour. Whenever they throw us off the line at Maverick/Airport--it's always pretty bad. Shuttle buses don't arrive timely, and when they do there usually is confusion with regular MBTA buses or terminal buses/when at airport. The stations are mostly new and rebuilt and ADA compliant many including Orient Heights after false starts--they have rebuilt the Heights station three (3) times and we finally have elevator and escalator, etc. The new train cars are longer/bigger but sometimes have issues breaking--slowing down both for signals and pulling into stations. Cannot tell you how many times I've seen kids stubbornly refuse to hold on/sit down/parents scrambling along with passengers--so they don't get thrown around. Delays including signal/traffic delays are common--and often I've missed the bus home b/c we were held at the gate/by the signal. And just in general--the next stop after airport inbound is Maverick--before the tunnel and outbound it's Wood Island. Wonderland is the last stop on the Blue Line--I really dislike that the indie film Next Stop Wonderland misrepresented, mis-ordered the stations, etc. read more

So you are in Beantown for a few meetings and after flying into Logan you don't want to drive anywhere and your staying in downtown or perhaps off of one of the other MBTA spurs, well hop the blue line into town. It definitely makes getting to the airport much easier and cheaper than parking at the airport. This definitely is a great option for getting around in the area without having added automotive expenses. I also like how the Blue Line is primarily an east/west line and extends out to the east from the city. The neighborhoods that I drove through to the east were definitely much different it seemed than to the north. I also liked that this particular line goes and drops you off if desired, right outside of the New England Aquarium on wharf. This is a very very handy dropoff for tourists like I was when I was there. It also allows the kids to get out and see something great without having to trudge through lots of inclement weather. Overall the blue line seemed fairly normal and nothing special. The stations were kinda not really that clean like the rest of the stations that I was at within Boston proper. Definitely my preferred way to get around that area that is for certain. read more

I love the blue line. It's my favorite form of transportation when I don't want to drive my Jeep into Boston. It tends to get packed but not as bad as the Orange line does during rush hour. I've had my fair share of bad experiences on it of course but they are few and far between. The only thing I don't like is the almost guarantee of the workers to not be around when I need them! If I lost my Charlie Card, and wanted to get a new one.. they're nowhere to be found. So I'd have to buy those temporary ones where you would pay 30 cents more per ride. Honestly, it seems to me like they just don't care. I see people going through the gates all the time without paying and they're just sitting there in their cozy little booths, not giving a rat's ass. That is part of the reason why they're raising the rates! Anyways, 4 out of 5 stars. Mostly reliable, from State to Maverick is very crowded, but a good majority of riders exit on Maverick... which is good since my stop was at Revere Beach and it would be a long stand before I get to the end. read more

Ah, the Blue Line -- allowing me to stun people by mentioning I live in a neighborhood they've never visited and then tell them I live two stops from downtown Boston. The trains are new and clean, run fast, and if you're lucky, you'll end up waiting for a train at Maverick, and can track every car on the line on a neat, old-style light-driven tracking board. (Hard to describe, just make the trip.) Also, if you don't feel like waiting for the Silver Line at the airport, you can take the free shuttle from your terminal to Airport Station and hop on the Blue Line, which spits you out downstairs at Government Center for easy access to the Green Line (and, let's face it, I know all you college students living on the Green Line hate dealing with any more transfers than you need to). Also also, you can take it to the beach. Who doesn't like beaches? The only real downside is that of late, service between Maverick and Government Center has been replaced by shuttle buses on the weekends, which basically means you're stuck waiting outside in the cold for a trip that takes at least twice as long as it otherwise would have. I'm sure it's for the greater good and all, but for now, it definitely detracts from the usefulness of what is otherwise one of the best things about the MBTA. read more

Probably the only line on the MBTA that is well maintained. The only thing that needs to improve is the interior train lighting needs to all be white like they originally came with, because lots of lights are incorrect orange colors. read more

Note, the bad reviews seem to be pre-overhaul. Having moved from Brookline to Eastie, I am fascinated by the Blue Line's on-timeness, quickness, and cleanliness, among other "ness"-es. It takes me five minutes to get from the Maverick Square/Jeffries Point area to State Street. At Maverick, there is a digital sign that tracks each Blue Line train's progress with fun and friendly red dots. (It looks like an adorable caterpillar, even though sometimes trains mysteriously disappear from the sign. Where did they go? The Twilight Zone? Alternate universe where Kevin Youkilis doesn't have a great beard?) Even during rush hour, the Blue Line crowd doesn't come remotely close to the overwhelming, crushing amount of people on the Green. And the trains are new and shiny. The AC works! They don't smell like old mutton! Pretty rawk. Sorry, Blue Line haters. You're just disappointed because we have a real subway train and you're probably riding the B. read more

I personally think the blue line is the coolest line of them all for the following reasons: 1) It's really easy to get to the beach, or the airport, or Wonderland... 2) The cars seem cleaner and perhaps newer than all the other lines 3) Less crowded and less weird people too( or maybe I've haven't ridden this enough to know the latter for sure) read more

What an enormous improvement from the godawful mess this used to be. I lived in Eastie from 2005-2008, and the Blue Line was a filthy abortion back then. The stations either have all gotten, or are in the process of getting, facelifts. The trains are sparkling clean, and even the pee smells are much faded! This isn't your father's Blue Line. Living in Boston for a while now most of my interaction with the Blue Line is of course going to & from Logan airport. But now I moved to the other side of the harbor & depend on it to get me into town. I was quite amazed & shocked how new the cars were. Plus most of the stations have gone through a renovation also which makes this line the most modern in the city. Admittedly it does not have the shear amount of stations as the Red or Green Line but the ones at are there are quite conventient. Government Center's 2 year closing has hampered access a bit but State Street is quite close & a 10 minute walk gains you access to the other lines. Bowdoin station definitely the forgotten orphan of the line but its in a great hidden location. Now I hope MBTA maintains this & improves the rest of the system for the Boston of today & tomorrow. read more

Blue Line MBTA - Public Transportation Near Me

This to me is what a true subway should be. Growing up on the North Shore this was the place to go to get into Boston. Wonderland was always our go to station and I have rode it many times. There have been in recent years many, many improvements to the whole line that have made it larger in capacity, cleaner and a more enjoyable environment. The trains are also always on time and when there is a problem this side of the MBTA relieves it quickly and you get to your desired location with little to no additional hassle. I always park on the beach side of Wonderland as I have found that the main parking area is just always crowded, and often times a pain to get out of. Just so ya know. read more

This is the line the fewest people know about in Boston. It's generally pretty clean (far fewer people use it than other MBTA lines), and it brings you to such places as the Airport, Revere Beach, and Wonderland, so it's actually pretty useful. My only issue is that while the seats are nice and blue to match the Blue Line, they're also really metallic and are pretty uncomfortable compared to the seats on the Red Line. But that's a rather minor issue. read more

The Blue Line is the forgotten part of the MBTA. It doesn't go into the heart of Allston/Brighton/Newton It goes north of Boston to places like Revere and something called Wonderland. It stops at Bowdoin. So it serves its purpose well (getting you to the aquarium, Logan, and north of Boston). Otherwise, it's an MBTA line: it gets you places, and it's A-OK. read more

Just got to ride on the new blue line trains the other day and was highly impressed by how shiny they were. However, the seats inside remind me of kindergarten and while they are a bit bigger, they seem to be a bit shorter in the seat area. Very odd. And it doesn't stop the super huge people beside me from taking my personal space and tossing it out the window. Either way, the blue line is OK. Now that I've said that, however, I will be stuck in a tunnel tomorrow. read more

Thanks Blue Line for getting my husband and I to the airport from the Copley Area. We went through many stops just to arrive at the airport. My only gripe is that the online scheduling system didn't provide the most up to date information and cost amount. From Copley (Green Line), we got off at Government Center. Then we hopped onto the Blue Line to a station before Maverick. We had to take a bus to another station to get to Maverick to the Airport. Apparently there was construction on the Blue Line. In addition, we thought that we had to pay for the transfer from the Airport line to the complimentary shuttle bus. Now we have $3 on our Charlie card. Guess we have to come back for another trip. read more

The new trains are nice, which means the length of the train is longer so more people can fit with less crowdedness yay! I still vote blue line as superior to the others. I wish the train was wide like the red, but I guess it just wouldn't make sense, there are less people, its faster and less dramatic "signal" problems. read more

The best of all the lines of the MBTA. I get on at Wonderland (what a delightful name, but the area makes me wonder why it hasn't been bulldozed yet.) and head all the way into Government Center. The ride is quick and usually the trains are semi-clean. Pro's: -Fast -Clean -The most "safe" of all the lines. You don't feel threatened by any of the riders, everyone keeps to themselves. Con's: -Another car would be nice. Inbound: It gets very crowded at Airport and Maverick. Outbound: Leaving Government Center can be a nice long wait and the cars are crowded. -Too many people with bags from the airport, strollers with kids in them DURING RUSH HOUR!, smelly people, etc. -Not announcing the stops for people who are unfamiliar with the area. Alot of us locals know them, but the tourists end up confused. read more

I ride the Blue line from Wonderland to Boston 4 or 5 days a week. I park at the dog track for 4 bucks and use the Charlie card for $1.70 each way which is a lot of money every month to commute.. So we spend too much money on commuting and it sucks. I used to live in Revere years ago and there are many things I love about it but what I have noticed is that many of the certifiably crazy whacked out of their mind people I see in downtown Boston usually seem to ride the train with me every day. The seat configuarion unlike the green line means you have to sit facing everyone else in the train. I have taken to wearing a cap and shades because I don't want to make eye contact with all the lonely people. (where do they all come from?) Like the lady screaming to someone on her cell phone in arabic. I have accepted years ago that I am somewhat of a freak magnet. I must look approachable because some guy who looks like he lives at Suffolk Downs always finds me to talk about the weather. "anotha cold day huh?" I'm always stuck reading "Stuff at Night" Magazine or something just to look busy. I hate it when the train just will stop on the track between stops for no reason for 10 - 15 minutes. The conductor will fill us in over the intercom, " mmmmph heah two mmmmph zzzzz tank you." Then some empty can of soda will keep rolling into my feet the whole ride. I want to kick it across the train but I know it will hit someone so I don't. Then at Maverick 2000 people get on and all lean against me. If I am seated then I get peoples crotches in front of me at eye level. Then I have to re read the Metro so I'm not stuck looking at some guys belt buckle or some girls belly button ring. Really claustrophobic. I wish I could just drive in but the cheapest lot is $26 A DAY. oh well. If I could only hold my breath the whole ride. I could put a cardboard box over my head and pretend I'm in a dark room in my house. Then everyone else would think I'm the freak and give me a wide berth. Avoiding me. Logan International in Boston has to be the optimum spot to have missed flight connections and suffer an unexpected 10 hour lay-over until the next flight out to your final destination..and then be left to figger out how you are gonna fill in all that time.. The answer.. go in and see some of Boston.. nothing could be simpler or quicker or cheaper .. just take the shuttle to the Airport's MBTA blue line station.. buy a $2.00 ticket .. wait ten minutes.. hop on an inbound train towards State Street or Government Center.. hop off when you get there.. and you are in the middle of historical Boston.. half hour trip tops.. mebe quicker if your timing is lucky. Eh. I have to travel this darn line to get to the airport. I probably shouldn't complain because I'm cheap enough not to get a cab. But whatevs. I stopped following its schedule since it clearly never follows one, much like the green B line. I'd rather land up at the airport an hour early. The Blue Line is my second favorite line next to the Red Line. This train is the shortest of all the trains. It runs on a pretty tight schedule in the morning and the rush hour home. Except on the rare occasion it breaks down. The are your fair share of crazies and weirdos here too but then again it is the MBTA. read more

It is hard to give 5 stars to any of the MBTA lines if you have ever visited other countries with metro systems (e.g. London, Madrid). That being said, I almost always take public transportation to get to the airport (from the North End) and the blue line has been pretty good to me. I usually don't have to wait long, the trains are cleaner and nicer than other lines, and there is a free shuttle from the subway stop to the airport. I definitely recommend this as a cheap way to travel to and from Logan. read more

Worst line there is, the service is extremely rude, the old trains are actually better than the new models, most stations are always 1000 degree State in particular, shuttle buses all the time and that 10 minute delay sign is bullshit, for some reason or another they only fix up the least used stations I don't get it read more

Very pleasant! Great way to get to the airport. Unlike the busses of the silver line which makes me suffer from a serious headache, this train is wonderful! Fast, clean, smooth, not crowded. Yes you need a shuttle inside the airport but it worth it and comes evert minute. read more
