California's largest operator of recycling, Ontario-based RePlanet, has closed all 284 of its centers redemption centers and laid off 750 employees. It's left all of us recyclers scratching our heads with umpteen questions. The most common begs: are there still buyback programs to get back our $0.05 deposits? Look no further. HERE! This is the place. Sure it's not as conveniently located as your not-so-friendly recycling center that no longer exists in the grocery store back lot. But it's a buyback program nonetheless. Massive facility beyond Oyster Point. My only gripe is their limited buyback business hours that end at 2pm. I finally had a day off during the workweek. I productively used this time to drop off our plethora of 50-gallon yardwaste bags filled with single-use plastic bottles/aluminum cans/glass bottles et al that we amass from every family party/sports event. Once you make your way onsite, follow the signs directing you to the recycle area. Pass the guard gate, proceed driving CAUTIOUSLY to Door 1 (be weary of garbage trucks and all kinds of industrial vehicles and machinery). At the stop sign in front of Door 1, a friendly attendant will bring out blue bins for you to fill up to your eco-friendly heart's content. Present an ID for their records and once you're done filling the bins and getting weighed out, take your paper receipt to the Admin Office (drive behind the the blue bldg and look for the '500' address on the left hand corner office). They'll give you cash up to $100. Anything over that amount will have to be mailed to you as a check. Today we barely made the cash max, as our two-carloads racked up $93. read more

Blue Line, l have been coming here for some time now, l have never been turned away or disappointed with this intake center. Many people say different things about this location; but l am setting the record straight. This place has always been my favorite Spot to take my Crap/ junk for a reasonable price; and all this without any hassles. They don't ask for much, just that you be safe for one, and properly Cover Tarp your junk that you are bringing in to processed. I am not a contractor so this isn't a review from a business standpoint but as a homeowner, I do go dump junk from yearly cleaning or debris from remodeling. This facility is dependable and I've never had any issues here of any sort. The crew is very professional and helpful despite the inherent work conditions (dust, noise, odor, and probably not the highest paying blue collar job). Both inside the actual dump and the weigh station - the crew always have a smile on their face when interacting. Even if I show up near closing time, there's someone to guide me and make sure I backup at the right spot. Other than that, not much else to add - it's a dump, lol. read more

I've never been to a recycling station before so this was a very new experience for me. I had a container of sharps I needed to discard and was directed to come to the Blue Line Transfer station. Their operational process here is very efficient - every employee from start to finish knew exactly what to do and was able to point me to my next step to minimize any confusion on my part. The lady at the front even helped me to skip the long line of people queued up to dispose of their larger furniture items since all I had was sharps, which was really nice of her. I think my experience may have been different if I had other items to dispose of, but for my first visit, I was satisfied with my experience here. read more

I was over charged by $199. I called and left a message that there was no way I had 3000 lbs in a half ton truck. An employee called me back the following Monday. Initially, she said there was nothing they could do because their scales are never wrong and are tested by the county. I said I was disputing the charge with my credit card company and wanted to speak with a Supervisor. The same employee called me back and said they looked at another camera angle and agreed with me and refunded my $199. I am giving them a good rating because the dump was a smooth experience and they rectified the overcharge. read more

The dump is a warehouse. They charge per wight. Expect waiting time to be average 1 hr or more. If you have a dump bed with a lift you get to go on a shorter line. There is always a line, priority goes to the city garbge truck first while we all wait. -1 one star since sometime the line doesnt move and no one tells you if you can skip ahead if you carry other items and didnt have to wait in the long garbage line. Therefore I can tell you now; If you carry concrete or wood waste you can skip to the other side of warehouse dont have to wait Also make sure you have a tarp over your truck bed otherwise they charge $20 more. read more

(a) No vehicle transporting garbage, swill, used cans or bottles, wastepapers, waste cardboard, ashes, refuse, trash, or rubbish, or any noisome, nauseous, or offensive matter, or anything being transported for disposal or recycling shall be driven or moved upon any highway unless the load is totally covered in a manner that will prevent the load or any part of the load from spilling or falling from the vehicle. If you want to put this dump to good use.... separate your stuff. Or take recyclables at a separate time. Recycling metals, paper, bottles etc will get you some cash. This all costs money for them, so it is a more expensive way to get rid of stuff. HINTS: the floor is indescribably filthy, its slippery and gross. Bring paper mats to use in your vehicle. Wear old shoes. Bring a broom to sweep out the back of the truck too. Be careful, trucks are racing around the facility and backing up. OK so going to the dump may not be as glamorous as a night out at a fancy restaurant, but as far as my experience at Blue Line Transfer today, it was excellent. We drove in with our trailer, derive onto a scale, a sheet was given to us with our weight (10,100 lbs). We then followed the line of cars to the unloading area, where we were directed to back in. Once in we were helped by three very nice guys working there. All emptied, we drove to the exit, where we were weighed once more (9,500 lbs). I expected about a $75-100 charge, but was surprised by the $28 total. Yes, $28 for 600 lbs of stuff. A great deal and great service. read more

This applies to the CRV recycling (bottles&cans only) operations, which seems to be a side business: it's one of the few places left in San Francisco, well it's actually in South San Francisco, where they take your bottles and cans. Blue Line was great up until a few years ago when a few things happened. First, they raised their prices from around ~$80/ton to now ~$105-$115/ton ($105 for landfill type trash and $115/ton for recyclable construction/demolition waste). They saw an opportunity to charge licensed contractors $10/ton more for a construction/demolition tag, whereas there up until recently there was no additional charge for this. They know contractors need the special tag for their permits so they quickly saw the opportunity to charge more for the same service. Second and more of an issue is how they've dealt with increased traffic in the facility. There have always been three lines to dump (excluding dirt/concrete or buyback materials which is a totally separate section). One line for their own commercial trash trucks, one line for customers with a dump bed who get in/out quickly, and the third line for small vehicles needing to unload by hand. I'm a licensed contractor with a dump truck and have so I go to the middle line, which in theory, should be given preference over people unloading by hand because we can get in/out in a fraction of the time. Recently, they seemed to have limited number of doors/dump area for people with dump beds and combined this area with the commercial trash trucks. A few days ago, I waited for 1.5 HOURS to move four spots in the dump bed line while the employees let countless commercial trash trucks ahead of the middle dump bed line. It would have been quicker to wait in regular "unload by hand" line which had 20-30 cars/small pickups in it. They need to dedicate more stalls in the dumping area to those with dump beds and the commercial trash trucks so its at least as quick as the other regular line. If you're a contractor with a dump truck, I'd highly recommend going elsewhere in the meantime while they fix this issue unless you have hours to spend waiting in line. read more

FINALLY! A place to accept my Sharps containers. You need to understand, I've been holding on to these things for a very long time because when I asked my doctors if they would take it off my hands to recycle, they suggested I ask local pharmacies, but pharmacies wouldn't accept them either. I wish I knew about Blue Line Transfer Recycling Center sooner because it was located so close to where I worked! Anyway, along with the Sharps, I brought old nail polish bottles (yeah, I guess I could have just dumped these in the trash, but these are chemicals like paint for walls, so I felt it appropriate to recycle these appropriately), and non-working CFL bulbs. Because these items didn't cause my car to weigh much on their scales, I didn't have to pay a fee upon leaving. TIPS: (1) If you do decide to head over to Blue Line Transfer, be sure you have the time to wait in line of vehicles exiting. Each vehicle that leaves must be weighed upon arrival and then upon exiting. This is how the recycling center determines how much to charge you. (2) Make your visit worth your time by accumulating most or all the stuff you want to dump out of your home/business before coming here, so you don't have to go back and forth (and wait in the line of vehicles leaving). (3) Call them ahead of time if you're not sure if they'll accept an item or if they will accept with an additional fee. Very helpful staff from the phone call I made to ask how much they charge for accepting Sharps containers to the weigh-in station and to the person who took my items. read more

Service is Excellent!!!! All the people here are friendly and very helpful. Chris, Jose, and Jesus are usually in the entrance booth and are very cooperative and helpful. (Make sure your load is covered - it's the law). Enrique, Norm, Marco, and many others work the floor where you unload your junk. Everyone out there creates a safe, friendly environment. One time I had a dead battery and needed a jump. Chris, the manager came out and helped me without question or extra charge. Cheaper but takes forever. They charge half ($22 min, $90/ton) what San Francisco Recology charge ($40 min, $150/ton) a couple miles north at Candlestick which is why every SF contractor goes here instead, where is why the line to get to the bins is always 30 mins or more. They now enforce the rule about covering your load, or charging $20 extra, so most people just pull up in Jamie Ct and throw a tarp over any old how for the last 50 yards. Over regulation, it's so effective. As for having 50 or so 12mpg trucks all sitting for 30 mins with their engines running waiting in line, the atmosphere thanks you. read more

As far as dumps go - this is my favorite location. Why? The staff is friendly and helpful - they weigh your vehicle coming in and out, so the cost if black and white (not like the old dump in Colma), and overall things are pretty orgainized. Wow!!! what a joke this place is... I drove here all the way from San Mateo with a refrigerator in the back of my pickup. I had it bungee corded just so the doors wouldn't open while I was driving. The guy at this scale tries to charge me $20 extra because I do not have it tarped. I tell him he's an idiot and I need to speak to supervisor. The supervisor tells me to go to Lowe's and buy a tarp. So I told him where he could go. So I leave take it to a scrap yard dump it for free with no problems. My point is why do you need to tarp a load when nothing is going to fly out. read more

A lot more reasonable prices than the Mussel Rock Transfer Station in Pacifica. Blue Line will actually weigh your vehicle first without paying at the entrance. They'll let you unload and then weigh your vehicle again at the exit. The difference in weight is what you pay. A lot more efficient and fair pricing system than some guy standing in a kiosk who just eyeballs your load and determines an outrageous price... read more

This place has saved us on more than one occasion.. So convenient when you need to clean house. For those that don't know, you drive over a giant scale to take your beginning weight then do it again on the way out. That's how they calculate your fees for the amount of stuff you dump. The dump is kind of like a giant wearhouse where everything is piled into a huge heap. You just back in and dump all your stuff in the pile too. It's stinky and the floors are gross (don't wear nice shoes) but it is quick and easy (and entertaining if you like a little bit of destruction and pretend mayhem). read more

I think this dump is way over priced.... I was charged for construction material / demolition $88, a ton, when I had dirt and weeds... in which the day before I paid $68. a ton... I complained, but they said I got lucky the day before... & They called it sod... I am looking for another dump for my dirt... and feel that dirt and weeds,or so called sod, is bio degradable and should be classified as such... they do accept Credit Cards... so that's a plus... read more

I feel the prices are ideal compared to other San Francisco dumps. I may wait for as long as 20min to dump my household things such as garbage, useless things sitting around not being used, and the yard refuse, but it's still a great place. Only gripe I've had was having to pay for a no-cover fee, but I could have sworn seeing something, sometime in the past about this so I have to assume responsibility for that issue. The dump service is good but if you have to call the office be prepared to listen to a very lengthy informational voice recording that you cannot get out of. They should at least have an option to speak to a person on the off chance that you already know how to get there. read more
