I am lounging in the very wonderful pool area as I write this review. It is chill, and comfortable and so Key West. The accommodations are big and clean and tasteful and comfortable. Beautiful bathrooms, comfy beds. The continental breakfast is perfect by the pool area. There is plenty of parking. The price is very fair for the location and the high-end experience! Love the deli-liquor store next door! I highly recommend the Blue Marlin. This is a high-quality mid-century gem! read more

We always stay at the Blue Marlin. The rooms are clean, the pool is quiet and private, and the staff are friendly. It's located near Upper Duval which means quiet days and nights. Within easy walking distance of the Southernmost Point and Gulf views. They've done some renovations so it's better than ever! There's plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance as well. For the price, cleanliness, convenience and Old Town charm, you can't beat the Blue Marlin. read more

I haven't even had the opportunity to stay here and have already had a very, very poor experience. Long story short, my family highly recommended the Blue Marlin (glowing review here on Yelp) for an event to take place the weekend of January 25th. I made reservations last May but by late September I unfortunately had to cancel my reservation and received confirmation that it was cancelled - this process transpired very smoothly, during which I was invited to try them again another time and I indicated I certainly would. All was hunky-dory at this point. On to the issue: Yesterday I received an email welcoming me to the Blue Marlin and stating my room was ready (!?) Today I called the motel, rightly concerned that the reservation had not in fact been cancelled. (Note: I work in a highly professional environment and am always using my best telephone etiquette). After dialing multiple times due to the line just ringing and ringing with no one picking up, the 4th time was successful, and I immediately identified myself and stated my concern. The person wasn't really forthcoming conversation-wise, all I really heard was background and noises that sounded suspiciously like those an annoyed person would make. I volunteered to provide the original confirmation number because they weren't actually saying anything to me, then eventually was told the reservation was cancelled but that I CANCELLED THE WRONG WAY. They proceeded with that phrase several times that I had made the reservation online (their website, not a third party), but that I cancelled by calling the front desk and that is the wrong way, blah blah blah. I interjected by stating that, wait a minute there is no need to have an attitude that I cancelled the WRONG WAY and how was I supposed to know that the Blue Marlin had a RIGHT WAY and a WRONG WAY to do things and how in the world do they expect anyone to actually know this. Well that evidently is all it took, because they then proceeded to talk over me that they didn't have an attitude, but I was being rude by saying that and the reservation was cancelled even though I did it the WRONG WAY. At that point I stopped speaking and asked for their name, was told "Sara", I repeated the name, then paused a moment - choosing not to say anything else other than I hoped she had a VERY pleasant afternoon and hung up the phone. If I caught one of my employees speaking to a client in that manner - essentially blaming the client for their actions, they would be out the door permanently. So "Sara" you really need to brush up on your customer service skills, and if dealing with customers annoys you so much, perhaps you should find something less strenuous. And if "Sara" is a pseudonym and you are the owner of the business, shame on you. I have already shared this information with my family, and they are collectively horrified. I don't think you have to worry that any of us will ever grace your doorstep again. read more

Perfect location for our first time visiting Key West. We didn't use our car once! Right around the corner from Duval St. (you have to try Frenchie's!) We made friends at the pool on a rainy day since there is an awning over a portion of the deck. New friends didn't love the breakfast options, but we never ended up eating at the motel. We did swim at night and the pool was really nice and heated. Room was good size for two of us - included Mini fridge, ice machines by the lobby, microwave and full size shower with tub. The housekeeping is a great benefit and there is coin laundry on site. Overall enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back as long as they keep the prices where they are!!! read more

Great accommodations, and location. One block away from Duval Street, also a few blocks away from the Southernmost Bouy. Try Anna's Cuban Cafe, with outdoor dining, just around the corner on Simonton and South, for the best Cuban Coffee along with a fine Breakfast. The Toasted Cuban Bread, and Coffee are a perfect combination, to start off the day, especially if you're not that hungry. Definitely worth a visit...!! This hotel is a great deal for the price! I am really surprised to see the super low star rating. My opinion is people need to keep their expectations reasonable. This not a luxury property folks, it has MOTEL in the name. We stayed here 3 nights in October and don't really have much to complain about. The room was clean, comfortable and had everything you could need for a fun trip to Key West. Definitely walk-able down to the busier part of Duval and super close to other items like the Southernmost point. A couple things to note... - See above and keep expectations reasonable - The air conditioner was kinda noisy/old, toilet ran at night, towels were kinda thin nothing huge but just kind of expect that sort of stuff with an older property - The continental breakfast is pretty sad, I would skip it - There is a decent sized mini fridge for drinks/food - Pool is pretty nice, but there was a bunch of caution tape around we thought was odd - I liked how they gave us an assigned parking spot I would stay here again! Staying in key west is expensive and the blue marlin is a great option if you are traveling on a budget! We rode our choppers down from Virginia and were met by one of the best front desk ladies! check in was easy and the room was very spacious/clean. their pool is great and it stays open later in the evening. located very close to Duval but far enough to be in a quiet area. great experience and will be back!! read more

I really wanted to like this motel and felt like I gave it more than enough shots to impress me during our four night stay. Unfortunately, I can't really recommend this place in the current state. At check in we were given room 119 which, when we opened the door, was completely and total demolished/being worked on. We went back to the front and were given a new room but the guy said that it showed "clean" in the system. My guess is that they are remodeling each room a little at a time and unfortunately we were given one that was a little more "in between" than others in our party. The first night as we got in bed my wife and I noticed our feet were jet black. We figured out the next morning that it was the floor and how dirty it was. We also had these dried spots of, what I can only continue to hope until the day I die, what looked like red wine. Our tub/shower wasn't remodeled Into a stand-up shower like the other people in the party. Our tub drained slow, slow enough it would be above your ankles by the time you'd be done showering. Also, the window next to the shower wasn't fitted properly so there was a giant gap between the window and the wall that they tried, unsuccessfully, to fill with epoxy. There were some positives like the location, the pool area and most of all, the bed. That was a completely welcome surprise. read more

Nice rooms (esp the showers) but VERY humid in the rooms- everything (clothes, papers etc) stayed damp- one night it was difficult to sleep. Friendly staff. Good location- walkable to most things. Nice pool. Breakfast included but quite lacking- other similar motels have waffles and/or cereal machines in addition to the pastries and toast options. Very pricey for what it was- perhaps time of year but very ridiculous for a motel ($330 plus tax a night??) Stayed for 5 nights and two of those nights we had someone knocking on our door during the night (one was at 3:30am by two people who drive up on motorcycles)- was scary. My friend and I decided to take a girls trip at the last minute. The Blue Marlin had the best rate we could find last minute, so we booked it. The room had 2 queen beds, which was great. It was a bit of a hike to the middle of old town which was a bit different for me but it really wasn't that bad. The room was clean and looked like it had been updated fairly recently. I believe we had a handicapped room because the shower was open with no doors and there were grab bars in the bathroom. The water did not stay in the shower that well but that was the worst of it. Parking was $15 a night which seems to be reasonable down there. The size of the room is bigger than I am used to because I usually stay in B&B's. read more

Perfect Place to Stay! The room was comfy and what you'd expect from a 50's style hotel that's been renovated. The pool area is where they serve breakfast, you might want to bring a wireless speaker to relax by when you're poolside. The bonus to this place is that you're near the southern most point monument, a food truck just outside the driveway, a quaint little bar/package store is across the street AND there's a Cuban store that sells some of the best coffee around! A darling place! As a group of 7 girls for a quick bachelorette weekend in Key West we needed a safe but localized/pivot place to be able to enjoy all of our activities and the blue marlin was wonderful! First the location is amazing with a parking spot near your room, the service and staff were friendly, rooms very clean, bathrooms nice, beds SOOO comfortable, and ice cold air-conditioning. The pool area and deck were nice to lounge at and easy to access and very private, you didn't feel on display for the passing by traffic! Next location, you can walk or ride your bike about anywhere you need from here!!!! Seriously perfect!!! We enjoyed the drinks and music across the street at the Tipsy Rooster, walked to the southern most point monument, rode our bikes (rented from We Cycle, delivered to motel, highly recommend) all over the island from the motel and just had the best freaking time!! I can not wait to go back to Key West and stay at this motel!! read more

My wife and I stayed one Friday night in late May, 2024, at the Blue Marlin Motel. Our one week vacation rental was only available starting the next day, so we wanted a convenient and nearby hotel for Friday night. The Blue Marlin Motel and its staff were wonderful. The room was available when we arrived in the afternoon, and it was clean and modern looking inside. We parked right in front of our room, and could explore Key West on foot or by car -- real easy. We decided to take a walk following our long drive down to KW from Ft. Lauderdale, so we walked about a mile to the Two Friends Restaurant. There we enjoyed dinner followed by karaoke. It was a party! Then we enjoyed our long walk back to the Blue Marlin. On Saturday morning we went to the pool where breakfast was being served, and said hi to our fellow guests and hosts. We checked out that morning, and thanked the cleaning staff and the front desk women for their hospitality. Because of our positive experience, we wanted to share it with you. Safe travels to KW, and enjoy their peaceful and convenient accommodations at the Blue Marlin. read more

This totally breaks my heart because I have been coming here for at least 12 years. I think there is new management which may be part of the issue. (along with what covid produced) I visited again in march (and i wanted to write this with a clear head so I waited). I will preface that the Marlin did point out it was spring break and honestly the rager at the pool and kids pounding on the wrong door at one am made me laugh and i just rolled over giggling to myself... im old but i remember. I digress.... With Airbnb available there are a few benefits that I embrace going to a hotel/motel as opposed to Airbnb... 1- my room is cleaned daily 2- service.... Unfortunately my room did not get cleaned every day. When i called at about 3:30 did they send someone .... sure but she said she was off in 15 minutes , arriving at 3:45,and we were trying to get ready after the beach to hit happy hour at 4:30...that wasnt going to work... it was a bummer. Made me wicked sad and a bit peeved. They have forgotten about their return patrons (maybe they dont keep a list or maybe new management is less enthusiastic about return patron service) It appears they focused on the breakers to ensure their rooms where clean. Honestly im sure their rooms were disgusting and took most of housekeeping's time but us return guests really should get some love..... I also noticed some wear in the rooms and pool area. chips in tile.... mildew smell that i had never experienced before. Pool chairs and set up past their glory with AM breakfast that had been cozy bistro with amazing coffee ratchet down to vending machine pre packaged bags. I will say that the individual taking care of the pool does stellar things in a not so stellar world. The whole thing just made me really sad. read more

With so much to explore in Key West, you don't find yourself camped out at the hotel. That's why the Blue Marlin is perfect for a group of college kids looking for an affordable spring break option. Between all of us we had three rooms and I was surprised that all of them were different and not too happy ours was the smallest. During the days, the pool makes for an easy option but it's location also makes it prime for going to the beach. When it's time to go out, the motel's proximity to Duval Street is ideal. So for the four nights I spent here I really do not have any complaints. The crowd was a lot of spring breakers but also older couples that didn't seem to mind. When looking for an easy option next time I am staying in Key West, I would definitely come back here. read more

Per the locals, there is currently a hotel room shortage on the island. I was delayed a night coming home due to severe weather and had to move from the Hilton Grand Key Resort because it was fully booked. The helpful clerk there found me a room at Blue Marlin. It was Friday night and the rate was $299 plus tax. The room smelled of mold. This is not inevitable in Key West--the Hilton didn't smell. My room was kind of cell-like, but it was good enough for one night. There were many Europeans staying here, which was nice for me. Breakfast was included in the rate and it was serve-yourself in the hotel lobby. I was able to get my required combo of coffee, orange juice, and whole wheat toast. This made me happy. Desk staff were friendly. Location was good. I don't recommend the room I had (124--see pics), but others might be nicer. read more

I stayed here for six nights with two kids for a nice spring vacation. The rooms were spacious, clean, pool was well maintained too. The thing which turned me on to the hotel were the rates and central location. Rates were about 300-375 a night. Not bad for Key West. May other places typed out at 800p Per night and rooms were smaller. The location was awesome. Walking distance to many great spots. We rented bikes and pedaled our way around. Parking is hard, and cars don't move fast here. Bikes are the best way because you can chain them up anywhere. I was very satisfied with the Motel during the whole stay. I can recommend it if you are looking to vacation here with kids. read more

This was my first time in KeyWest. I didn't know what to expect because we had gotten reservations from the Visitor Center. The price was just right. The room was clean, I love the fact that it had tile floor with some carpeting. Especially since the room was close to the pool. #118. But the first night there a transformer across the street went out and we didn't have any electricity for about 4 hours. The hotel had no back up. None and it was night!! No light.. ( we went out for a few hours then came back and still no electricity, we left our vehicle on so we could have some lightning coming in the room) the front desk guy was sympathetic about the situation but could not offer us anything. I thought the hotel would have a back up. But I guess not. Other than that, For the price and the room, it was well worth it. I would stay there again. read more

Check in-clerk: dark haired woman was very nice. Also older dark haired gentleman that night, very nice. Electric went out during our stay, wasn't sure if it was just our room, went to ask. Blonde woman with accent at desk was very rude and unfriendly! I asked about the electric and she acted like I was stupid.I stated, she didn't have to be rude and she yelled that she wasn't then cussed at me! My husband said she was also rude to him. WE WILL NOT SPEND OUR MONEY THERE AGAIN BECAUSE OF HER. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I own a business and you must be friendly and professional while working with customers. We stayed here three nights in December. We were on the second floor in a two beds room. The best thing is the AC works so well! Room was clean. We had a refrigerator & microwave. The only negative is the drain in the tub didn't really drain quickly. Staff is sort of to the point not that friendly. The breakfast as others have stated isn't great. There are plenty of places to eat around Key West. Parking is $15 a night but good to know you have a spot. We didn't get to use the pool. There are coin washers and dryers on site. Good location to walk to almost anything you will want to do in Key West. Very close to a trolley stop as well if you use those. For the price compared to other place it was a great place to stay. It is a motel and we don't go places to hang out in the place we are staying. We like saving money by staying here to spend it doing actives. Do note the roasters are on site but we were able to sleep through them. They were still in the process of doing some remodeling while we were there but mostly the lobby area. read more

Rooms and pool were nice but I had a situation and didn't get much support. Drove straight to hotel from car rental. Car was in parking lot and didn't move. Woke up the next morning and the rental had scrapes down the side and a deep gouge on the back end and bumper. 100% was not there when we checked the car out at the rental lot. I took a video when I checked it out. Went to front desk and asked if they would check cameras. "We don't check cameras unless you file a police report." So I called police and filed a report. When the police came everyone seemed annoyed with me. I mean really pissed off that the police were there. The manager said she didn't know how to work the cameras and wasn't sure that cameras even pointed to that spot (which 2 cameras are clearly covering that spot). Well they agreed to get an IT guy to email the desired footage to the police officer. I went out and filmed the cars location and where the cameras were for my records. Employees were standing in the lot watching me like I was doing something wrong. When I woke up the next morning the vehicle had another dent in it (like somebody struck it with an object) right above the door handle where I would clearly notice it. 4 days later I called and spoke with the police. They said nothing was sent and the the blue marlin never followed up. The officer called them and they said "yea we checked the cameras and nothing hit that car in our lot." This is disappointing because I liked the hotel. Just know that you are on your own if someone hits or vandalizes your vehicle in their lot. read more

Excellent motel in the heart of Key West. Short walk to everything. Very nice redecorated rooms (done since last hurricane). The let downs are that parking costs 15 dollars per day, kinda not what motels are all about. And the breakfast was a bit slim, selection was meagre to say the least. read more

We had a group stay of 4 couples here for a weekend getaway. The rooms were comfortable, remolded, and clean. Some rooms were smaller than others but at the end of the day who goes to the Keys to stay in their room. I was completely amazed at the customer service that was given to us by the front desk gentleman named Luis Amador. He gave us lots of useful information as to the restaurant closing hours (due to the pandemic) as well as best food spots. I will definitely stay here again and recommend this Hotel. read more

What was there bad to say about the blue marlin? Nothing!! This was our third stay here since we discovered this little gem in 2015, the staff is always friendly, check in is a breeze, if you arrive early they will store your luggage until your room is ready, the room we had was renovated beautifully with a nice stand up shower, it has that beach feel, which is great for the keys, it's perfectly located near the southern most point and close enough to duval street that all you gotta do is jump on the duval loop which has several stops right near the motel, and there's great places to grab meals at right near by, Ana's Cuban cafe if right behind it, and the southernmost beach cafe is a block away, next time your looking for reasonable rates and a comfy place check this place out, I know we'll be back!!! read more

The room was clean and nice, but they were doing construction on the wall of our room way too early this morning. We woke up to incredibly loud construction tool noises. I recorded a video of it... wish I could post it here. They really shouldn't have put us in a room that shares a wall with a construction site. The level of noise and time of morning was unacceptable. There was also a foul smell from the seaweed that has washed ashore, which the motel can't control, but keep that in mind if you plan to stay on this side of the island around July 2019. read more

I really loved the Blue Marlin Motel - it was very well priced for location and quality. The room was clean, neat, simple and modern, which is exactly what we were looking for. The front desk staff were all very friendly and accommodating. This motel is right next to Duval Street (by Banana Cafe, yummmmmyy) and all of the wine bars. It is about a 15 minute walk from the party scene on Duval Street (or a very short bike ride :) ). And is very close to the Southern-most Point. Additionally, there is a bicycle place right nearby which costs $10 for an entire day (Saturday morning - Sunday evening). Only negative is that the bathroom/shower is separated from the room by a shower curtain :( .. not always very nice if you are trying to have a nice romantic vacation. read more

Nice, clean hotel that is not too expensive. The rooms are commodious and breakfast is included in price. Breakfast is from 7am to 11am next to the pool. Breakfast consists of toasted bread, marmelade, coffee, yogurt, cupcakes, and so on. Parking is free but not guaranteed (First come, first served). To get to the mallroy square it takes you around 25 minutes by foot but you can grab a taxi or go there by bus. read more

Onto the hotel itself: It's multi-level but seemed to be pretty quiet. The rooms are very basic (and dated) and simple. It's a clean place to sleep, but not much to look at. Don't get excited over the free breakfast because it's just toast and coffee. But overall for the price and location it's a good budget place to sleep. Still expensive because of location, but cheaper than all the surrounding hotels and bed & breakfast places. You'll be eating out and hanging out at all the great bars all night anyway! read more
