I often spot shade perennials I don't spot elsewhere. Prices are reasonable but higher than I can budget for purchasing multiples - however, if I need a healthy plant in a special spot, I'd trust spending your dollars here. Service is friendly and helpful. They have folks indoors and out to ensure customers get attention with their questions and purchases quickly. Parking is my least favorite thing here. It's a busy street and limited parking for busy days. Be patient and careful.

My boyfriend and I don't often get a real tree because we usually travel for the holiday. This year we decided to get one anyway, mostly at my insistence. I was a little worried about a pre-cut tree because Thanksgiving was so early this year that I figured they'd be getting pretty dry. So yesterday, December 1st, we decided to find a place where you can cut your own. We'd done so in the past, but it has been several years. My boyfriend found Werkmeister through an older Courier Journal article. The article featured multiple places but Werkmeister seemed to be the closest on this side of the river. We prepped the car and put on terrible clothes and shoes since it was a very wet day. I then forced Matt to listen to Christmas music for the 30 minute drive to Shepherdsville. Once there, we learned that they had closed the fields for the year and only had pre-cut Fraser Firs brought in from North Carolina two weeks prior. I was definitely disappointed because we had driven all that way to avoid it. They explained that they only had the fields open Thanksgiving weekend and that a blight has hurt a lot of local tree farmers. It sounds like the fields had to be closed to keep the farm sustainable. The Fraser Firs, which do not grow in Kentucky, were beautiful and still in really fresh shape, despite having been cut and shipped two weeks prior. They had a variety of heights, but every tree was a flat rate of $60. All of them had been trimmed to have a great shape. We decided to get one anyway. Everyone there was really nice and helpful. They trimmed the bottom branches for us, gave it a fresh cut, shook it free of some of the water and loose needles, baled it, and helped us get it in the car. The service was really good. To be honest, it's unlikely we'll be back because we usually travel Thanksgiving weekend, and it's not really worth the drive for a pre-cut tree. But if you are around for Thanksgiving or live in the Shepherdsville area Werkmeister is good choice.

I brought my daughter here a few weeks ago to see the butterflies after remembering that my son enjoyed them when he was her age. At the time my son was here (years ago), the admission was free. However, it's now $10 per person. I was a bit daunted by this because I thought $10 just to see the little butterfly greenhouse garden was a bit much... .... then after we exited the garden, we stumbled across an amazing children's outdoor play garden! I did not recall seeing this place before and my daughter was absolutely delighted! We loved it so much that we left to go pick up my son and bring him back the same day. They both spent hours playing in the dirt, with the toy food, climbing the structures, making a water fountain, playing in the tent, and so forth. Definitely worth the $10 per person for them to have that experience. We were also blown away by the fun selection of decor and children's garden toys and accessories inside the shop. The employees were super friendly and nice, too. Great spot. Will definitely be back. This place has also inspired me to consider having a garden. Maybe.

We visited here with our family on a warm day in March hoping to see butterflies. One of the staff…read moremembers kindly told us that the best time to see many beautiful butterflies is around mid-May, so we plan to come back then. Even though we didn't see many butterflies this time, the visit was still wonderful. The greenhouse is full of beautiful flowers and the landscaping is very well done. It's such a peaceful and relaxing place to walk around. We also bought a lemon tree, which became a lovely gift for our daughter. Highly recommend visiting. Especially after May if you want to see lots of butterflies!

So, I decided I could pick up another Ryobi portable fans and a battery: these work well and I always seem to be able to find use for another one. I got the impression this particular location is "sketchy" when I park and realized there was somebody sleeping in the truck next to me and there was a huge security camera in the parking lot. Anyway, the store was not laid out the same as what I have been used to inside. I got immediate help which led me to even better help. I got exactly what I needed and was escorted to the self-check where she actually ran everything through for me. While this was spectacular service from my viewpoint I wondered if this was standard practice when you get two items from the lucked portion of the store. Anyway I have to give a good rating because of the help but give a heads up to those not from Louisville. Has what you need but don't go there late?
