There were lots of interesting stories I learned, but I will say I was a little skeptical about some of them because the detail that was provided seemed impossible to be known. They did mention that there's going to be some documentaries coming out on HBO and I'm very excited to watch those. It might give me a little more context into how some of this is known. Highly recommend had a great time and I'd probably do it again.

When we entered the building they had a historical video playing. They took us through a quick tour of the whole building, then brought us back to the start to explore on our own. We had lots of rich paranormal activity through flashlights and the Estes method. My sister's roomate saw a shadow figure. All four of us heard voices in the body chute, but nobody was at the bottom. In another part of the building is also a haunted house and an escape room, but we didn't do any of that.

I tried booking online thru Eventbrite but all tours that weekend were fully booked. I decided to give it a shot and called them. They were able to squeeze us in the first tour of the evening which was 9:00p. We arrived 15 mins early as instructed and made our way inside the gothic building. As many other curious visitors of Waverly Hills we were in search of history, architecture and the paranormal. There was a sign posted inside as we were registering: "This establishment is reported to be Haunted. Management is NOT responsible and cannot be held liable for any actions of any Ghosts/Spirits on these premises." www.theRealWaverlyHIlls.com Background: Waverly Hills Sanatorium was a former tuberculosis hospital in Louisville KY. TB was widespread in the area, resulting in a waiting list to stay at the sanatorium. Despite its name, Waverly Hills was not a mental hospital; a sanatorium is any institution that provides treatment and convalescence for chronic illnesses. Our tour guide was a member of the Historical Society. The experience included a guided tour where we were lead, at least partially, across all 5 floors and we also had the chance to look down the body chute. Waverly Hills has a reputation as one of the most haunted places in America and has been featured on ghost hunting shows as "Ghost Hunters," "Ghost Adventures," "Paranormal Lockdown," and "Buzzfeed Unsolved." There were some 30 of us in the tour... the historical stories shared with us were interesting and cool but I did not feel any of the following: full grabs, see shadows, apparitions, or shadow people, feel permanent residents walking up to people, taps, temp changes-cold spots, or hotspots, heard screams, footsteps nor door slamming. Too many people on our tour but I can't complain because we were just lucky to get in as extras. Waverly Hills Sanatorium is on the National Register of Historic Places for both its significance historically, as well as the architectural significance of the building. Review #3911

A French immigrant, Mr. Conrad moved in 1895, he made his wealth and name in Louisville as a leather tanning merchant. After his death in 1905 he sold it to his long term friend and prior tenant; Caldwell Family. The gentleman Mr Caldwell took the house to the next level. The different features of wood works continually improved and changed when they became the new owners. The is said to be haunted by a mysterious ghost, probably Mr Caldwell that pasted away in his bed in 1940. This individual made his fortune in constructing and building water towers. Some of the most interesting and famous ones are the one at Disneyland and the Catsup bottle both still around today. Come and see what they have saved historically for us all. Our daughter had spent part of her growing-up years here in Frankfort, where my husband and I have lived for 50+ years. She enjoys introducing her Colorado daughter to the beautifully forested, living beauty of Kentucky's natural world. Before departing the dock, we enjoyed browsing in the gift shop, with a great assortment of caps, tee shirts, memorabilia, and some Ale8! Upon boarding the boat, the crew offered a bourbon service that would rival most any local selection. We all enjoyed lovely bourbon refreshments! Together with visitors from Tennessee and other nearby states, we learned some Kentucky River geography and history, along with equine, bourbon, and horse racing history. The captain was skillful and knowledgeable, as she cruised the riverboat on the sunny Sunday afternoon. The tour guide was a true font of history with amusing anecdotes of his personal career in the bourbon industry and his overall knowledge of the Commonwealth. He was friendly, engaging and humorous. The round trip ride lasted about 90 minutes. The boat was very nice with bench seating and the ride was smooth. We sat upstairs in the open air to enjoy to scenery. A bar tender will take drink orders and deliver beverages to your seats. Drink prices are reasonable. Drinks can also be ordered and purchased on line. (I think snacks were also available). We booked our cruise several months in advance with tour and tasting tickets at Buffalo Trace Distillery. Two members of our party backed out and we were able to cancel their reservations (thankfully) the week before and get a refund. We started with our visit to Buffalo Trace. We arrived about an hour early so we could shop at the distillery and we were glad we did because we did not have time to shop after the tasting and getting to the boat. The tight timeline between the tasting and the boat departure was the only downside to the trip. I recommend the cruise, but plan on going at least an hour early to the distillery to shop.

How did it get its name? [Louisville KY]…read more We drove to this location on the corner of Sixth Street and Park Avenue in Louisville where there is a famous landmark called the Witches' Tree. It's in front of an apartment house, did not see anyone around. I took my photos of the tree. It actually just looks like an ugly tree, so knotted, tortured, and misshapen, but there were odd things that hung on the tree, mostly trinkets, baubles and bead necklaces of different colors. The story goes that in the late 19th century this tree was the gathering place for a coven of witches. The witches cast a curse on the town when the city cut the tree down ahead of the annual May Day celebration. Exactly 11 months to the day after the tree was cut down, a historic deadly tornado hit Louisville. During the storm, lightning struck the stump of the old witches tree and a new tree began growing there... not a pretty tree but this ugly tree that stands there now. So now locals of the community leave small tributes on and around the tree to keep on the witches' good side and to bring good luck. This is a stop included on the Old Louisville historic ghost tour.
