My family has been going to Kimchi Grandma for years and I remember that this is the spot we would…read morefrequent whenever we were craving legit Korean food. However, on my last visit to this establishment, the standards have dropped considerably, and sad to say, nothing on the menu tonight really stood out for me. The price was acceptable for Melbourne, service was okay, tho a little odd that we were served tea in a teapot a la Chinese restaurant style. The banchan came first and it was very basic: just some kimchi, mashed potatoes, bean sprouts and fish cakes. None of them tasted good! We ordered: + Hae-Mul pajeon: the pancake was not bad, a little soggy but it was packed with chunks of oysters and veggies, which I like. + Spicy squid: this was probably my favorite dish of the night. Delicious and fresh squid and the spiciness was on point. + Spicy pork: ugh, this tasted foul...pork had a weird smell and slimy texture. Skip! + Kalbi: not a fan of this kalbi. Again, slimy texture and if you can't tell from the picture, there is puddle of water underneath the meat. Yuck~ + Dolsot bibimbap: quite yummy! The rice was on the mushier side, though. I did enjoy the sauce that it comes with tho...hella spicy! + Dae-ji galbi gui: huge slab of spicy pork ribs, but again with the porky smell. I think I'm going to avoid all porky dishes from this place from now on. + Jap Chae: delicious and flavors were on point. Overall, everything was just ok for me. This place can get super busy even on weekdays night, so reservation (esp for bigger groups) is recommended.

Kim Chi Grandma was the first Kim Chi restaurant in Melbourne. Some people don't always know what to order when they go out to a restaurant, if this is you then get ready to impress your friends by ordering the following two dishes to share: Beef Bulgoki & Jap Chae. You better write those down just in case you forget. What a combination. I don't want to give too much away, but you will always order these dishes from now on when you go out for Korean, unless of course you already have been.

Tender juicy chicken. Good colour balance. Divine fragrance from herbs. Juicy eggs. Pretty little Carrot florets. Cute Kawaii plate as underlay for rice. Lots of juicy chicken pieces but not overwhelming. Succulent vegetables. Quick 3 mins under shelter walk from Carnegie train station. Best Deal: Value for $ at $11.50. It's a steal! Food: Generous Portion size. Good amount of Meat. Service: Waitresses are well presented, smiling & polite. Came quickly to us when we raised our hands for service. Atmosphere: Love the clean wooden white decoration theme. Temperature is Climate Controlled. Toilet is clean. Crowd: Young professionals with mixture of hip youngsters. Place is packed full of people eating and queuing thus the food must be good. The food turnover rate is high thus the food must be fresh. I give it 5 / 5 stars. I will surely come back again to try different dishes especially the tom yum & drinks as they all look tasty. I highly recommend you to bring your family, colleagues and friends there this week for a pleasant gastronomic experience. :) Best regards, Jianfa Ben Tsai Fat Guy with 35 years of Restaurant Dining Experience Managed Food Business Worked at 5 Star Hotels

I've been wanting to try this place for a while now!! But seems to be consistently busy / packed…read moreevery time I'm in the area so best to book! Unless you want to eat after the dinner rush hour. Anyhoooo I had to fight hard not to let my imaginary second stomach take control when ordering. The place was packed! No walking space with people waiting to pay and waitresses busting their chops to satisfy hungry people! I wanted to order one of each from the menu after spying what others were eating around me. It's a small place .. Easy to do.. :) The test benchmark for me when it comes to Thai is the green curry.. This was amazingly good! Not sweat to the level of drinking sugar water and the bamboo shoots used were thinly sliced and did not overpower the curry. Smooth coconut along with the herbs... oh man!! hmm this little piggy did not leave a drop! The glass noodle salad at first reminded me of fish sauce in the sun too long... think mild fish sauce that's watered down and ur there. I did like it though.. don't take it apart to eat... The coconut ice cream ... I kid u not .. I think one of the waitresses stole a bite ... found it odd that there was a small wedge missing when it was served. Our teaspoons were clean at least. In testing it out the theory .. we ordered another.. the second one had no wedge!! haha Oh the coconut ice cream served with salted nuts and mild / reduced condensed milk in a small beacon was really good! We could have had a tub of it. Light and not too sweat.
