When I got engaged, I went around to my married girlfriends and asked them what they would have done differently for their wedding. The answer was almost unanimous - have someone do the day of coordinating. I didn't have a friend or family member that I wanted to saddle with the task, so I engaged Blue Sky Events for day of wedding coordination plus a few extra hours to help with pre-wedding coordination. I decided on the extra days because I live in San Francisco, and we were getting married at a private residence along the Truckee river near Squaw Valley. Blue Sky Events did an amazing job on our wedding. I worked with Karin Priou on some of the planning. She was wonderful, and really helped me get my ideas together. When Karin took some time off work and wasn't going to be back for our wedding, she handed our wedding planning over seamlessly to Kerry Hawk. I can't say enough good things about Kerry - she is truly awesome. Because we were getting married at a private residence, I had Kerry help me come up with a layout and flow for the wedding. She not only had fantastic ideas, she really made a task I was worried about fun. She also put together the rentals that we needed, and we needed everything so that was a giant task. When I was concerned about the cost for the florist, Kerry offered to pick up the personal flowers we ordered to avoid a delivery charge and to set up the centerpieces and additional arrangements that I made. I was really glad we had purchased the extra time, because I had gotten to know Kerry by that time. On our wedding day, I had full trust that Kerry would take care of everything. From the time she arrived on our wedding day, I didn't have to worry about anything but getting pretty and hanging out with my bridesmaids. She took care of everything. To be honest, I don't even know everything she had to deal with on the day of, because it was just done. Kerry was so organized during the entire process. She had so may great ideas on how to save money. Most importantly, every time I spoke to Kerry or Karin before the wedding, I got off the phone feeling much more calm and relaxed about the upcoming wedding than when I got on. I had an absolutely perfect and stress-less wedding day, and I know that a lot of that had to do with Kerry and Blue Sky Events. read more

Kerry is unbelievably good at what she does. My now husband and I are two people who never thought we'd get married until we found each other, so neither of us had any clue how to go about planning a wedding. And of course we had to make things even harder on ourselves by choosing Lake Tahoe even though we're from LA (something about driving in traffic to our own wedding just didn't feel...special). So, a wedding planner was a must. We spoke to several different coordinators from the area. A couple of them were out of our price range and handled mainly high end weddings, like $75K or more...we couldn't bring ourselves to tell them about our tiny budget of "only" $20K. Not a high end budget compared to $75K...but still by far the most expensive day of our entire lives! We also spoke to one coordinator whose price was the cheapest, but for that price we got an extremely "itemized" contract. She actually had written out how many phone calls with her we were allowed to have, along with a lot of other stipulations about what our fee would and wouldn't get us. We liked her personality, and the price was right, but the contract turned us completely off. Then there was Kerry. Her fee was very reasonable if not the cheapest, but it was what we got for that fee that sold us: complete ease of mind. No phone call limits or weird stipulations, just true "full service" planning. Exactly what we needed. She was also so nice and professional during our consultation. She told us that while our budget was on the low end for Lake Tahoe, it was completely doable and she worked with all kinds of budgets. (We did end up exceeding our original $20K, although we could have done it cheaper, but one thing you learn while wedding planning is that your original budget inevitably gets thrown out the window when you realize how much things cost). Over the next year and a half Kerry proved over and over that we had made the right decision in hiring her. She found us the perfect venue and some of the best vendors we could have hoped to work with. She coordinated every possible detail and remembered all the things we never would have thought of. She took two people who were completely hopeless with all things wedding-related and walked us through the process with patience and expertise. All of the decisions were still our own, and when the big day finally came, we looked in wonder as all of those decisions finally came together. The day that we had spent so much time designing was beautiful and perfect, and everything we wanted. And as amazing as Kerry was during the planning process...she absolutely shined on the day itself. She thought of EVERYTHING that could possibly come up and planned for all of it. She even had white safety pins to use when the bustle on my dress failed (something that apparently happens at every wedding...who knew). Every possible detail was taken care of and there was nothing for us to do but enjoy the day. Many of our family and friends told us how fantastic she was, and we wholeheartedly agreed. Our wedding will always be one of the most special days of our lives, and we owe it all to Kerry for her outstanding coordination. We can't recommend her enough. read more

I am an event coordinator in Southern California and I have worked with several event coordinators and I was so impressed by Blue Sky Events and Kerry. Overall, my experience with Blue Sky was fine. Allison was super nice and met with me the day before the wedding. I did feel, however, that because we were a relatively small job for them that they did not give us as much help and as we really needed. We made/provided all our own decorations and planned everything ourselves; and needed them only for the actual setup on the wedding day. The frustrating thing was to find out the day before the wedding that- although they offered to bring the decorations to the wedding, we would be left on our own to bring them home. Allison did dissuadingly indicate they could do it but it would cost more money. We were happy to pay but it was clear by then that it was not possible for her to fit everything in her car and to take care of it all on her own, and they had no one else to help. ...I'm not sure why they did not just charge us more money in the beginning and plan properly to finish the job. The result was my husband, bridal party, mom and I staying well past the end of the event to help pack up the decorations and load them in our cars. ....Not exactly an ideal ending to my dream wedding! It worked out fine but would have been nice if they could have taken care of everything and seen the job through to the end....or let us know earlier of the situation so that we could have better planned our decoration pack-up and load-out. Also, my mom was running around helping with the setup and missed the whole "getting ready" fun before the wedding because there wasn't enough help. They knew about every component of our wedding setup well in advance (we even ended up cutting some decor out), but for some reason didn't provide enough people to help. Again- in the end it was fine, but it would have been awesome if my mom wasn't running around feeling that setup stress. Again, the money was not an issue in the situation....I'm not sure why they didn't just charge us more in the first place, provide the needed amount of people and have us pick everything up from their office the following day... I feel like they perceived us to be a small and less important job and didn't give us the proper amount of attention and help. read more

I don't live in the area but I did for quite a few years, so I thought planning would be a breeze; however, I quickly found out I needed help and lots of it! From the start, the staff at Blue Sky was accommodating to all my needs. Even though I wanted a small, no-frills ceremony, I never realized how much work goes behind it. Kerry assisted with the pre-planning stage, and offered suggestions but was never pushy with unneeded expenses. She was thoughtful, kind, responded promptly to all my emails, and I found her very trustworthy. She set up a contract specific to my needs which was straightforward with pricing and payment was a breeze. I felt she picked up on my personality from the start and I didn't feel I was just another client. Even the vendors she recommended for hair/make-up (Studio 89 - Alex) and photography (Indigo Photography - Brandi) were amazing, super friendly, and relaxed, which suited us perfectly. Melissa was my contact the week of the wedding and the transition was seamless. Even with last minute requests, Melissa was quick to respond. Every detail was planned, communicated clearly and I was glad I could just sit back and go with the flow. Melissa was our wedding planner for our wedding at Tahoe Mountain Home last weekend (7/26). I can't say enough good things and realized I'll probably be reiterating a lot of what has been said already, so if you don't want the details, just go ahead and book them. If you'd like details, keep reading! I used to work in the party-planning business and naively thought "this should translate well to planning my wedding!" Which it didn't. I expected to be able to do everything myself from afar (My fiance is a tahoe native, but we live near SF and I work weekends so we didn't get much opportunity to drive up there). Every step of the way, Melissa listened to my ideas and guided me towards better ones (gently =) and reminded me of things I would never have thought of (trashcans? totally forgot.). The venue isn't really meant to be a wedding venue (its just a house) so there were a lot of things I wouldn't have considered needing had Melissa not been there to remind me. She handled a lot of correspondence that I didn't think she was supposed to (I didn't even talk to the shuttle driver for our guests until the night of the wedding!) and she helped us when we had some last minute emergencies (our bartender bailed about a week before). I never once worried about the wedding as I knew Melissa had it. As mentioned before, the day of the wedding, I didn't do ANYTHING. which is good, because I realized I couldn't do much without risking a groom sighting or messing up my hair! It was amazing. Oh! and apparently we ran out of vodka and ice and her assistant ran out to get some in the middle of the wedding. I only know because I happened to overhear them chatting-- they tried really hard to keep these things from me so I wouldn't get stressed. I wasn't stressed (Melissa handing me drinks all night made that hard!) but it was kind of cool to know they were working so hard to keep everything running smoothly without bothering me or my fiance. My favorite part of the process was the little things that really helped make our day, like Melissa making our photographer take a break so we could much on some appetizers (she didn't even ask, she just stepped in and made us eat and I'm SO glad she did!) and making sure we had a drink whenever we wanted one. The bartenders even knew what we were drinking before we asked for it! They did an amazing job and I couldn't be happier we used them for our special day. After a couple of months trying to find vendors for our destination wedding in North Lake Tahoe I started to get anxiety about the task I had taken on, so I switched my search to wedding planners. I did my research, spoke to my top choices, and Blue Sky Events was a clear first choice based on their response time, friendliness, what they offered and price! You get so much for your money...piece of mind being the most important! Lindsey was assigned to our wedding and we could not have been happier with the services she provided. She helped me pick my vendors, understand wording in contracts and stay on track with planning. It was also wonderful that the vendors we chose (all very highly rated) told us about how much they love working with Blue Sky Events, making us even more confident of our choice in wedding planner. My husband and I flew up several times and Lindsey made herself available to join us while we were meeting vendors and gave great advice. She responded quickly to questions or concerns and followed through with everything discussed. She even met with our venue coordinator and my parents without us being involved to be fully prepared for our wedding day. Leading up to our wedding weekend I only stressed about minor details and never had any major stress because Lindsey had it all under control. No words can express how thankful we are that we decided to get a planner. We were crazy and decided to plan a wedding in 4 months and having Chelsea is the main reason we were able to pull it off. She guided us, was patient, took time to get to know who we are, was responsive, beyond helpful, and knows Tahoe weddings inside and out - the best vendors, places, etc. She didn't force any vendors and really took time to think about who we are, what's important to us, and what vendors would work best with us - which is priceless when it comes to navigating choosing all your vendors. She went above beyond (like driving all around the lake to get us a "to-go" cake tasting while in the midst of a storm) and we truly couldn't have done it without Chelsea! When I first read the reviews here on yelp I was extremely excited about hiring Kerry and her team to be our wedding coordinator. We paid $2500 for some minor planning help and day of coordination which at the time we thought would be money well spent. I hired Blue Sky over a year before my wedding and my wedding often did not seem like a priority on their time up until 1 week before the wedding. I often had to wait over a week to hear back from Kerry and when I asked for her help with something she seemed to do the bare minimum to help me. For example, our contract specified that she would negotiate and manage our room block but she didn't want to deal with the hotel we chose and gave up leaving me to deal with it. It seemed that if you didn't want to use HER vendors that she got kickbacks from she didn't want to help you. When it came to the week before the wedding her team finally made my wedding a priority and spent time with me on the phone putting together a very detailed itinerary for the wedding day. We went through every detail and the day before the wedding we went through where all of our items were located at the venue and did a walk-through of the wedding ceremony all of which went admittedly well and led me to believe that my wedding would be run smoothly as well. There were MANY things that went wrong on our wedding day, all of which were things that we had specifically talked about three days before. Although our guests probably did not notice, these things caused me some stress and definite distraction on my wedding day and made me extremely regretful of paying $2500 for someone to make my day run seamless. Among the many other issues were: -The Blue Sky staff used the wrong seating chart to set our tables. -The wine we specifically purchased for the wedding was not being served during the cocktail hour or at the start of dinner. The wait staff was walking around with another, cheaper, brand until I corrected it. -The Blue Sky Staff almost had our cake cutting after dinner and have cake set out on the table instead of cut during dinner and served at the table, a detail I had corrected Kerry on twice before the day of the wedding. -My husband and I weren't given enough time to even sit down to eat our cake before being told we had to have our first dance. -Our reception was cut 30 minutes short because the Blue Sky staff that was still there (Kerry was long gone by that point) thought that we were supposed to end at 10pm, not 10:30pm per our contracts. Another specific detail Kerry and I had discussed BEFORE the wedding. -Our shuttles wouldn't come all the way up to the venue to drop off/pick up our guests. Our guests were forced to walk up a steep and relatively long driveway to get to the venue. There were many other things that went wrong throughout the day and I am not disillusioned to think that a wedding day is going to be perfect but most of the things that happened were things I would expect a good day of coordinator to keep straight. Almost all of the timing issues were actually explicitly written out in the itinerary that Blue Sky gave ME but they didn't seem to use their own schedule or notes. The wedding was beautiful and our guests had a good time and I'd be lying if I didn't say that Blue Sky did deal with a broken drink dispenser VERY well and jumped anytime I asked them to on the day of our wedding but honestly I thought I was paying for someone to do the thinking for me on the day of and it really disappointed me that I had to make SO many decisions and direct SO many people on my own wedding day when I paid for a coordinator. I would not recommend Blue Sky Events to any of my friends and suggest that unless you are paying for a full service wedding where Blue Sky plans the entire wedding and makes all of the decisions, not to waste your money on them. read more

i wanted to keep our wedding pretty low-key and casual so I debated whether we really needed any help with wedding planning, but investing in Chelsea/Blue Sky Events to help keep things moving along smoothly was BY FAR the BEST decision we made in wedding planning. Even with what we thought was a 'low key' wedding, there are plenty of details that need to be taken care of, and she thought of every one!!!! She went WELL above and beyond to help us every step of the way, which was especially helpful since we planned our wedding from out of town. When it came to decor, I could not have imagined anyone bringing to life a more perfect translation of what we had in mind. Honestly... it was perfect. Thank you so much Chelsea for bringing our design vision to life, for bearing with us when we were way behind/hadn't thought of 99% of the detail of what needed to get done, and for making everything run so smoothly and seamlessly on our big day. Kerry and Melissa at Blue Sky Events are fantastic. I hired them as my day-of coordinators, and they did that and so much more! If you are looking for the short story, my wedding went off without a hitch--and I didn't lift a finger. Not one finger the entire day. All I had to do was tell them what I wanted, hide in a room for 6 hours getting pretty, and my wedding happened exactly the way I had always hoped it would. AMAZING. The long story, with the details of Blue Sky's amazingness, is below :) - 9 months before the wedding: I have no idea where to start finding vendors, or even to ask them when I met with them. Kerry and Melissa provide us with a list of vendors totally tailored to what we were looking for, including the venue. - 8 weeks before the wedding: Blue Sky reaches out to all of the vendors I've selected and fixes all the mistakes I've made. Ordered half as many water glasses as I needed? They fixed that. WAY too many plates? Fixed that too. - 6 weeks before the wedding: my flowers fall through a week before I am slated to leave for a 2 week trip to Asia!! Never fear, Melissa to the rescue--finding a florist to provide the flowers I wanted on little notice for a 3-day weekend when there must have been 100 other weddings happening. - 2 weeks before the wedding: Kerry and Melissa have quietly reached out to all of my vendors and put together an itinerary of the wedding, planned out to the half hour, along with where every person involved needs to be all day. - 1 day before the wedding: Kerry arrives for our rehearsal to find that one of the rental companies, slated to deliver the tables for our rehearsal dinner (which she is not being paid to help with in any way at all), is late. She manages to get us all through the rehearsal (no small feat--my family has trouble following directions) while figuring out where the truck is (broken down at the top of Donner Pass) and when it will arrive (FAR too late for us to use at the rehearsal dinner!!). I am frantic. My mother is frantic. Kerry is calm. Cocktail tables are whipped together, random coffee tables appear, linens are artfully draped, the ceremony chairs are set out on a beautiful deck overlooking the lake. All of my guests congratulate me on taking advantage of the beautiful weather and not sticking them at big tables in a stuffy room for the rehearsal dinner. I wonder how much it would cost me to have Kerry run the rest of my life for me. - The wedding day: I am sent into a room at 8AM to be beautified. I know there is an itinerary floating around out there somewhere, but I can't see it because my phone has been taken away to prevent me from being a control freak. Kerry ushers in people have get prettied up. I drink champagne. Kerry ushers in the photographer to take the pictures that I asked for. I drink more champagne. Kerry goes out to hide my fiancee so my family can get pictures taken outside, and I finally get my first look at the venue--and MAGIC HAS HAPPENED. Every single thing I wanted--EVERY detail--has been set up far better than I could have done myself. There are paper pom poms hanging, flowers everywhere, tables are set, cupcakes are arranged, and I don't know how it happened because I spent my morning lounging in a room, having my hair done, and drinking champagne!! The rest of the day goes off just as beautifully. The music is perfect, the vows are perfect, no one trips walking down the aisle, and somehow Kerry moves everyone from place to place so gently they don't even realize they're being herded. Any kind of wedding planner, full-service or day-of coordination, is going to cost some money, But hiring Blue Sky was worth every single penny and more. My wife and I were married in Tahoe on Aug 11, 2013. We live only a few hours away and have gone to Tahoe many times every year for the last 20 years, even before we knew each other. Lake Tahoe holds a very special place in our heart and some day hope to live there. I even proposed to my wife under the fireworks on July 4th in South Lake Tahoe. We know the area very well. We also love Hawaii and considered getting married there as well but Tahoe won. Knowing Tahoe so well and only being a few hours away, we are fortunate in that we could visit often and handle a lot of the wedding planning ourselves... so we thought. We toured around the lake and visited about 10 possible wedding venues and after many hours of debate made the decision to do it at EdgeWood. After its all said and done I can say it was absolutely the best place for us, it is just a stunning facility and the views are perfect, especially the sunset at night! So we had 13 months from the time we selected Edgewood for our wedding, and we took the next couple months off before starting to evaluate vendors. We used a combination of the lists on EdgeWoods website and searching on Google and Yelp to help find Planners, Cake vendors, photographers, videographers, hair/makeup, flowers/decor, officiant, DJ, etc... Out of all the vendors, having a wedding planner was one that I really struggled with because I had the idea that we could handle everything, after all we were somewhat local and had extra time on our hands to do a lot of this ourselves. We even heard from some that Edgewood does such a great job you don't need a planner. So in talking with several of the planners I really put them through the paces to help me understand what we would be getting. It took a while for it to sink in, and thankfully I pulled the trigger. My wife and I spoke to several planners around the lake and just felt really comfortable with Kerry and Melissa from Blue Sky. They were so nice and accommodating, even though I must have drove them crazy with all the questions I had about what they'd be doing!! It wasn't until the real planning began that we both quickly realized just how valuable they would be. It wasn't just handling tasks and making calls for us. They are your "right hand Women", they have really good opinions from everything to choosing colors, to flowers, to cake styles. They almost always answered the phone or returned calls promptly. And the thing that impressed me the most is every time we talked they treated us like a friend calling them. They are just so friendly and nice. One of the other things we noticed about Melissa and Kerry.... they literally know everyone in Tahoe. We made appointments with the cake vendor, flower vendors, edgewood etc.. and every time we went to a different vendor, THEY WERE THERE, already, working on other projects. This ended up being extremely convenient and valuable. They were close friends with or connected to every vendor that we selected. Our circle of vendors all knew each other, had worked together like a well oiled machine. This took so much of the load and burden off of us. Things such as can we get this picture on a dock at Edgewood, can we do a sparkler send off, can we bring a gas fire pit to edgewood for s'mores, who will bring the jars for the s'mores, who will light the sparklers, and the list goes on and on. Melissa was there for every detail of it, she handled it like a true pro and for this we can't thank her enough. When you are planning your wedding at the beginning you don't know what you don't know. You are unaware of how many little things will come up. YOU DO NEED A PLANNER! DO NOT GO WITHOUT! So finally the day of the wedding, Melissa was calling us early running through a check list of questions to ensure we were prepared. We had air cover and someone making sure it was all going to go well! This is a peace of mind that you should have on your big day so that you don't have to worry about it. BlueSky is detail oriented, almost too much so, but its for good reason, so many things could go wrong if you don't have a plan. Both Melissa and Kerry were there at our wedding and did a phenomenal job of keeping things on task but also interacting with our guests. Our friends and family raved about them both as being super nice and a good addition to the wedding. I regularly saw my guests interacting with them. We had Kerry and Melissa help with our wedding this summer. We live in Portland and had a destination wedding in Lake Tahoe, were my family has a small cabin. They were amazing!!! They gave recommendations and helped patiently answer any questions during the whole planning process. The last week before the wedding they jumped into gear and basically coordinated everything the day of. This was totally invaluable to us. We were able to relax and enjoy our day without worrying about any of the vendors. If there was any small snag they jumped in to get more soda, talk to the DJ about inappropriate music, and just meshed in with the crowd. I live in VA and my husband lived in CA, PA and now back in CA over the course of our wedding planning. As the Mother of the Bride I could not conceive of how a big destination wedding was all going to come together while the bride and the moms were secluded and primping. Enter Melissa from Blue Sky Events and everything became clear and impeccably organized. She and my amazing daughter had done a great deal of preparation ahead of time but when I saw the Itinerary, the Timeline, and all the other tools provided by Blue Sky my worries evaporated. She greeted each vendor, worked with them to set up, and knew every detail that anyone needed ahead of the ceremony and throughout the reception. She was there to guide us and kept the different stages of the wedding moving forward unobtrusively. When the evening was complete she coordinated cleaning up the magnificent venue (Valhalla) and sorting all the things that needed to go home with various families. My husband and I recently had our 10 yr wedding anniversary and the Blue Sky Events team planned an entire week of activities for a large group of people to celebrate. From the start everyone there was a joy to work with - they had great ideas, were energetic about the project, were organized and detail oriented and most of all they made planning a huge event fun and enjoyable for me. Their contacts in town made it possible to have the best sites, catering and flowers. We did a beach side BBQ, a hike, a day on top of Heavenly mountain including zip line rides (wow), a yacht dinner cruise, a private movie night in Harrah's night club and had a lovely anniversary dinner with each event having between 20 - 40 people attend. Blue Sky planned each event meticulously and with style plus arranged transportation for everyone to each event. Amazingly, each event occurred without a hitch and there were almost no problems. There was only one issue - a floral arrangement supposed to be in our hotel suite was not there so I called Kerry and they delivered it within an hour and without charge. Talk about results. That shows that even though the problem was not a direct result of their own, they are more than capable of handling it and making things right so I was happy.
