My husband and I decided to take a few dance lessons prior to our May 2023 wedding and realized we were sleeping on this gorgeous dance studio located conveniently in Wilmington's Independence Mall. After reaching out to discuss the available options, we were directed to consider a group class to learn the basics, followed by private lessons, both of which were a great experience. We initially took a four week group course of Hustle/FoxxyTrot, taught in their larger ballroom. We were initially feeling anxious and self-conscious, but quickly realized that many of the other couples were also beginners, though there were certainly more-skilled participants that were clearly "regulars" at the school. Most in the class signed up with a partner (at a slight discount!), though there were a few individuals who had to partner with each other or the instructor. Generally, we were divided by gender to be taught the initial steps, then came together with our partners to practice while the instructor rotated to offer individual suggestions. Overall, it was hard to learn a ton in four weeks, but we definitely learned a few basic steps that came in handy for our private lessons. After our group class, we signed up for five private lessons taught by Tania, who took the time at our initial class to get to know us and understand the layout of our wedding venue. While our intention initially was to learn a few steps and feel more comfortable on the dance floor, we wound up learning a full, 2-3 minute choreographed dance for our first dance. Though neither of us had much dance experience (and one of us barely understood the concept of a rhythm), Tania guided us with patience and ease, providing encouragement when we needed it and incorporating our feedback and requests to build a routine that we felt comfortable with. To our surprise, we were able to learn and execute our first dance nearly flawlessly, impressing all of our friends and family on our big day. My husband and I signed up for some private dance lessons before our son's wedding to brush up on our ballroom steps, swing dance moves and some fun dance party moves. I started taking lessons there a few weeks ago. I want to get into competitive ballroom dancing. My instructor is Ken, and he is awesome! He takes the time and explains the different steps, and how they all go together. The only thing that sucks is when you do the classes you have to pay the whole amount up front, they don't do payment plans. But it's alright, this place is great! I only met Ken, and Gaby, she works in the office and teaches lessons, she is so friendly and takes the time to listen to you. Super impressed! The exterior is beautiful - which drew us in....but the experience once inside is 5 star! From the moment you walk in -it is an an experience. Beautiful setting, love the feeling. She has helped us make a lot of progress and has also begun to work with us on picking music and practicing full routines. Very dissatisfied. I purchased a gift certificate for my daughter and her boyfriend to take their first ballroom lessons. After 6 months it became clear ghat they were not going to use the certificate. I emailed the studio and did not get a response for 3 weeks. When they finally responded, I was told that the certificate expired and the 200 dollars was lost. I was not offered a refund or even a partial refund. I was not even offered the opportunity to use the certificate myself. read more

Outstanding place to learn and enjoy dancing! My husband bought us lessons for Christmas a few years ago. We had so much fun that we've continued to take lessons and attend dances. The teachers are excellent and trained to assist you with your dance goals. The facility is beautiful and well-maintained. The other students are friendly and very supportive of beginners. Singles and couples are both welcome. Dance hosts and staff ensure that you get a chance to dance at parties. We love this place! read more

I happened upon this place when I saw the big sign for the ballroom while driving by. At a later (and more convenient) time, I dropped by to get more information. And at a still later time, I convinced a group of friends to visit their once a month dance party. The first thing people notice is what others have said, which is the decor is gorgeous! They really did a fantastic job! And the dance floor especially is big and beautiful. The food they offer is also very gourmet and delicious! If you drink, they also offer a bar. The dancers are some of the highest level dancers at a venue I have ever seen. The music was nice and the performance given that night by Italian 10 dance champs Emanuele Pappacena and Francesca Lazzari was amazing. However, what impressed me the most about this pair is that they spent the rest of the night (before and after their showcase) dancing with us plebeians. That might sound stupid, but many, many of these top level dancers do not seem to enjoy dancing anymore and would never deign to dance with the "common man." This pair seemed genuinely nice and excited to be there and to dance with us. Where I am docking the point, is unfortunately everything was a little on the pricier side. Although to be fair, The $15 entrance fee did include a higher level of food than other places offer. The private lessons with Emanuele was also pricey, but again, please take into account that he is ranked on an international level. Also, emails ask patrons not to bring their own water, and instead buy it from the bar on site. I will admit, there is a bit of salt in this, as I did bring my own water to the event. In my defense, I had never been there before and many places do not provide adequate access to water, so I have gotten into the habit of bringing a bottle of water with me where ever I go. However, it still seems a bit harsh to not allow people who are forward thinking to bring their own water. The other reason I am docking the one (measly) point is because the people there did not seem nearly as friendly as at some of the other venues. It was amazing to get to dance with Emanuele, but other than that dance I believe only one other person asked me to dance all night. At least one of my other friends was also not asked to dance very often. But overall, this is an amazing place if you take your dancing seriously, and want to be good. It is by a good margin the highest caliber of dancers I have seen in a long time, and the owners and staff have so far been very friendly. Check it out! read more

Baby and I recently tied the knot and we wanted to make sure we (or at least I) didn't embarrass ourselves during our first dance. Baby loves to dance but I generally have two left feet and we end up frequently knocking knees. Not the look you want your guests to witness. So we thought it would be a good idea to take some dance lessons before the big day. I found The BlueBallRoom online and shot off an email to Ken. He got right back to me and we started our lessons shortly afterwards. The BlueBallRoom is a brand-new dance school (they were in the midst of construction when we were taking lessons) in Wilmington's Independence Mall (because nothing says shopping and dining like a replica of an 18th-century historical site). Ken was great - he was funny, patient, and easy-going. Even when we thought we would never remember all the moves he showed us or when we couldn't remember our left from our right, he kept us going. And when our time came, we may not hit every mark (Baby gets a little dazzled from basking in all the attention) but no one could tell. We were very happy with our experiences and look forward to going back for more lessons just for fun. I highly recommend The BlueBallRoom to anyone looking to learn to dance. read more

Superb, outstanding, understanding and most of all patient teachers who love what they are doing and clearly enjoy teaching you to dance and look the best you can while doing it. I have been to and taken lessons at many other places. I can honestly say the Blue Ball Room Studio staff and facilities are the best. There are two separate ball room floors (with doors enclosing the smaller one which is larger than most other studios main dance floors ) the larger or Main Ballroom floor is a gorgeous work of art with a fantastically custom designed and extremely well maintained ball room floor that is unmatched anywhere. The dancers her are very good, some are very high level but they all love dancing and enjoy dancing with anyone from a "never danced" beforel person or an international champion. None are critical of anyone who wants to dance and they all remember never having danced before either. I highly recommend this studio and enjoy dancing here and taking lessons here! I have been ballroom dancing for five years and Blue Ballroom is, hands down, the best dance venue I have ever been to. For starters, the ballroom is gorgeous, a mixture of Victorian grace and 20's art deco, and easily compares to the likes of the Valencia, Willowbrook, or Sunnybrook. There is enough seating to take a break but not so much that you'll get everyone sitting down - thus prompting dancing. The staff is beyond friendly, mixing it up with the students and gives the sense they really want to dance, not just make a profit. Dances are accompanied by complimentary snacks, usually excellent deserts. Many social dances include performances by the staff or visiting teachers, all of which are of showcase quality. I don't know if the floor is sprung, but regardless it's very easy on the knees and feet. My only compunction is that many of the dances don't include complimentary beverages, not even water, though they are available for purchase. That said, if you budget in the cost of beverages with the price of admission, it's still less than a night of dancing at another ballroom. read more

I was asked to compete in a ballroom dancing competition to raise money for Variety - The Children's Charity, and the lessons were through the BlueBallRoom. As a little girl, I always wanted to learn how to dance. As an adult, I got to finally realize that dream! The instructors are all so wonderful and friendly, especially Samantha, who was my instructor. After just six lessons, I felt really ready to perform and I had so much fun along the way.
