They offer a tightly curated selection of vegetables and had some of the best-tasting basil though in small bunches (it wasn't enough to make pesto but delicious in a Caprese salad). Pies, raw milk, tomatoes, fresh fennel sausage, this old farm is a slice of heaven to me. Both cash and credit cards accepted.

They have everything you need for staples from the garden along with things that are just nice to have. Their food selection is terrific. I especially like their "salsa in a basket", which is a strawberry quart basket filled with onion, tomato, jalapeno, cilantro and tomatillo. Fingerling potatoes are available here! There is a cooler in the back with locally sourced bacon, milk, and eggs along with Swampscott soda. Depending on the time of year, you can get cider donuts, pies, brownies, and bread. In the "nice to have" department, Barker's has a couple of offerings. There are bouquets of cut flowers which you can purchase for half the price of what you could get at a florist or supermarket. Or, better yet, you can go out to their flower garden and pick your own bouquet! Sometimes they have dried chili strings or dried flower arrangements which you can hang as home decor. As you ring up your purchase, don't forget to grab a bar of handmade soap. (I'm partial to the Voodoo Spice.) If you just feel the need to get in there and grow your own, Barker's also has a green house. You can pick up seedlings for most garden vegetables there. They offer a good selection of annuals and perennials, as well. Barker's is not open year round. Let's face it, it's New England and winter is a time to live off the preserves that you made during the summer and fall. When late spring rolls around, make sure you put Barker's as your first stop for food shopping and pick up good local food to keep you going.

They had a tractor that took you up the hill to some newly opened patches, but the line was long. We opted for the patches within close walking distance that still had a lot of strawberries. There's plenty of things to do for both adults and children. A fun obstacle course, giant sandbox, tire swings, and chicken feeding for kids. Hard cider, live music, a couple food carts, a mini craft pop-up and farm market/bakery for adults. There was also a strawberry shortcake and fresh cider donut stand. The pulled pork from the PitchFork food cart was plentiful and affordable. Lots of seating with umbrellas and it never felt super crowded. Parking across the street was easy. Only comment is wayfinding signage for the U-pick could be improved. More festivals like pollinator and cherry will be in the coming weeks, and we'd definitely return. We went to the beach afterwards (~15 mins) to take full advantage of the beautiful day.

What bothered me the most wasn't that she ordered sweet Elsie to write down what I wanted, or that she took pleasure in informing me "it was going to be a while because we have a lot of orders", "just so ya know", as if my ordering a chicken salad and a tuna wrap at their deli was a inconvenience. What was problematic, was after waiting 20 minutes (and filling my carriage while shopping and checking back in), I then witnessed 3 men (who seemed to be regulars) place their order, which was then expedited, and their sandwiches were then handed to them within minutes. When I finally received my 2 sandwiches, I checked to make sure they were what I had ordered and they were missing most of the ingredients that sweet Elsie had so painstakingly transcribed. When I brought it to the brunette's attention that the sandwiches were missing ingredients she wasn't pleased. She grabbed a pad of paper to take my order once again and I informed her she keep her sandwiches and the carriage full of food I had collected while waiting and being passed over for customers who are prioritized. I am fairly certain this is a family owned business. She's probably part owner. She obviously hates her job. It's unfortunate, but I don't have time for this nonsense. I'll spend my money else where. A small family apple orchard, it prides itself on organic produce and low spray apples. The also have unpasteurized apple cider which for me, is the best and the most flavorful. As it was late in the season, we picked our own bag from off the tree's and the ground for a bargain of .50cents a pound. We also got gallon of cider. I also spied produce,homemade pies, cookies, and preserves. I loved how they used an old scale to weigh the apples. So cool! This is a special place, and reminded me of my childhood in Vermont when I used to go to the local cider mill where all the locals and yellow jackets gathered.

While we don't have churches dating back to the 11th century, this is as close as we Americans will get to our roots. Salt Box Farm has the second generation of the Goodrich family at the helm; they began running the farm in 1959. I look forward to spending an hour picking fresh produce, flowers and herbs. It'll have to wait until the next trip to New Hampshire.
