And it's safe to say that West Baden is now a family tradition. My parents spent a few days there to celebrate their anniversary, and then the kids all came to stay the last night, during Easter weekend. And we made the most of it. We started with bowling and pizza at the new Ballard's at the Atrium (see my review on that). My older niece then watched all the kids in one of the hotel rooms, while the adults got a drink in the expansive atrium and enjoyed looking up at the picturesque dome ceiling. The next morning, which was Easter, we found a quiet sitting area on our floor to have an Easter egg hunt with all the kids. These are memories we will cherish. We popped over to French Lick for brunch, though the Easter brunch set up in the atrium definitely looked delicious too. The staff is always excellent. We were able to call and get all of our rooms next to each other, which helped. Thanks for another fabulous mini-vacation, West Baden!

It will be years before my husband and I can stay at this hotel and have a true 'date day or night' and our kids are five and three. Honestly they'd get more money out of us if they offered babysitting for younger kiddos!! Food here is very standard and nothing to write home about. That applies to every restaurant off property we tried in the area. Activities we tried and enjoyed 1. Kids pony ride 2. Carriage ride. 3. Mommy and kiddo pedicure (expensive for what you get but also standard pricing for hotels). 4. The free!! Trolley train ride to the sister property. Activities are easy to book over the phone ahead of the stay and easy to do at the front desk or calling from your room. Very excited about the new bowling alley building they are almost finished with next to the hotel. The stables area is very picturesque with a large covered 'patio'. Patio seems too small a word. More like covered event space. Wedding perfect. Room was clean. Beds are not very comfortable. Killed my back and my husband's. We had a two bedroom suite which was the perfect size for the four of us. It had two balconies overlooking the atrium which I will never, ever book again. Too loud! All night long too loud! Even from the sixth floor, even with earplugs. Only exterior view next time for a stay. I would return next year for all of the holiday events. My kids loved this trip because of all the new experiences they had. Lots of things to do in the area that get you outdoors. Lovely part of Indiana in the Autumn (when we visited).

French Lick Springs Hotel somehow manages to feel both grand and incredibly relaxing. Everywhere you turn there's another detail worth appreciating--from the breathtaking domed atrium and historic architecture to the beautifully maintained grounds that practically beg you to take a leisurely stroll. The wraparound porch quickly became one of our favorite places. We spent a ridiculous amount of time rocking in the chairs, enjoying the gorgeous weather and taking in the peaceful views. It felt like stepping back to a time when people weren't in such a hurry. One thing I didn't expect was how convenient it was to explore the area. The complimentary shuttle was fantastic. We rode over to the casino resort, spent hours walking the grounds and exploring the restaurants, and on the way back the driver even dropped a few guests off at CVS and simply told them to call when they were ready for pickup. It's little touches like that that make you feel genuinely taken care of. Our room service breakfast was another highlight. Everything arrived hot and beautifully presented, from the biscuits and gravy to the fresh fruit oatmeal and perfectly cooked breakfast. Starting the morning with breakfast by the window overlooking those incredible grounds was hard to beat. The hotel itself has so many little spaces to discover. We wandered through the historic bathhouse, found a billiards room tucked away, admired the architecture, and never once felt rushed to get back to our room. Every hallway seemed to tell another piece of the hotel's history. And yes... The robes absolutely deserve their own paragraph. They're still some of the most comfortable hotel robes I've ever worn, and I'm standing by my original statement--you won't want to take them off. French Lick is one of those rare places where the destination and the hotel are equally memorable. We left already talking about coming back during another season just to experience it all again. I would have stayed there but at $269 or $419 a night or whatever it was running, hmm, no thanks. So I found Big Locust where the rooms are more a modest $75-95 a night. The $95 a night room, The Locust Room is what we chose. It was so nice because basically we had the whole upstairs to ourselves. It was very private. The hosts were very patient and understanding and easy to work with. I would say this is more of a no frills down to earth place, but very comfortable. French Lick was a bit of a drive, but not bad. Also, downtown Paoli was nice to have nearby. Do be prepared that this is out in the middle of nowhere. Our phones didn't get signal, and there was no WIFI to be had except at the resorts. However, that made more relaxation. Also, there was always the resort nearby for what remnant of a night life French Lick has or a Starbucks or visiting the winery.

Fortunate enough to stay in the small, one-bedroom cottage which was very quaint. Reminded me of a family cabin as it was homey and a very casual setting. Although I didn't use it, there was a kitchen and laundry room which could be helpful for those staying for a few days. The bed was a bit harder than I like and it would be great to offer a hair dryer as they are too bulky for a traveler to pack. Overall, I lovely place to stay.

The house, over Labor Day weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday night), cost us $440 (total) for 5 people. The house has two bedrooms and bathrooms, a nice, fully equipped kitchen and a patio/deck with a gas grill. There is a washer and dryer in the first-floor bathroom. Our third person stayed on the hideaway bed, but we also found a nice twin mattress set upstairs. The house was clean, cozy and really nice! We were within walking distance of everything in town. There was only one potential snag in the whole experience....our GPS's had us all turned around (we were on 5 motorcycles), so we ended up asking some police officers that were parked at the gas station where the house was. We would never have found it, had we not gotten an escort from the nice police officer! He knew the house and said, "Follow me--it's tricky." The street sign had two names on it, with the one we needed to see, all covered up by tree branches. Note to the lovely Vesta: Please warn people of this, because it would be nearly impossible to find in the dark. Be sure to bring TP, paper towels, a sponge and dish soap. We'll stay there again. It was a wonderful house and a great deal!

The house was built in the early 20th century, this impressive all-brick home has been a French Lick landmark for decades. Located directly across the street from the French Lick Resort and Casino, this 2000 square foot home was recently renovated. Featuring a full bathroom and three bedrooms on the second floor -- a king master bedroom, a second bedroom with two queen beds, and a third bedroom with two twin beds -- this 2-story home can easily sleep eight guests. The first floor features an entry lounge (with a 50" HDTV), a sitting room, a formal dining room, a full kitchen, and a half bathroom. Also included is a washer and dryer and a car port. I was worried that my elder parents or pet sitters would not be able to get ahold of me. No room phones either. Wifi was also spotty. Wifi didn't work more than it worked in my room. Be prepared for lots of walking. I had an injured person in my party, and she wasn't able to do most things. Also, the room was small! The bathroom door was only two feet wide and the bathroom itself was very narrow. One of the beds was against the wall. Also the restaurant was buffet only. There was no menu ordering. Now that I have complained a lot, heres the nice things. Staff was very nice. Things were very clean. Parking in the garage was easy. Each room had a minisplit heat/ac unit. It worked very well. There is a page in the room binder on how to change the temperature, fan speed, and blowing pattern. The beds were very comfortable and came with six pillows on each bed. There was an in room refrigerator.The Pioneer Village was very nice. It was also very nice that a church service was offered in the Pioneer Village. I greatly enjoyed it, but only happened to find out about it by accident. I didn't visit it, but there was a game room available. I really enjoyed the outdoor patios at the hotel. They are conveniently located and well kept. The view from the patios of the large trees and rolling hills was beautiful.

My spouse and I wanted to go to check out the openhouse for the newly renovated Spring Mill Inn…read more The openhouse was November 20, 2024. They have reconceptualized the inn. The construction lasted two years. As you enter the inn, you will discover they have done away with stairs and curbs. When you come inside, you will find a ramp where the front desk used to be. The front desk as well as the shop are connected to the sitting area. The restaurant and lower level are redone. The pool is gone. it will be replaced by a splash pad. They have added walk in showers to a couple of rooms. they plan to add a second elevator on the outside with a glass enclosure. Of the indiana inns, this will be the most handicapped accessible inn in indiana.

This was our first visit to the area, and we weren't sure if we were going to be spending our time…read moreat the lake, or in French Lick. having never been there before, we left this open. we found the location acceptable, as it was ten mins from town, and ten mins from the lake. the cabin was reasonably clean, with exception to the plethora of cobwebs in the corners. my wife is not a fan of spiders. the solitude was AMAZING. however, there was only one other tenant in the vicinity. the place was very quiet. we liked that there were no cigarette butts sitting around, and a sign that forbade it. ditto fireworks. we were able to leave our windows open our first night and slept like babys. downside. NO INTERNET, NO CELL SIGNAL. also only a handful of tv stations, and the signal on that kept fading out making watching anything impossible. shower faucet was busted. it was a single handle moen, which i would have fixed myself just to be able to take an appropriately temp'd shower. no hardware close though. we managed with it, but it was not good. we mentioned this to the "maint person" upon our departure, and she stated she had mentioned it and it was decided they would not repair it. will we be back? jury still out. our room (discounted b/c it was a Sunday/Monday stay) was STILL $277 with tax for two nights....we saw many rooms in the same area starting at $69.00 a night...that had no more or less amenities than ours did. i would sacrifice the 4 minutes farther for half the money! **Rooms in the West Baden Springs Hotel, (hallmark of the Midwest) were only $250 starting price. to say they are only twice as good as these is a joke! do the research...look on the internet...read these...you STILL will have to go for yourself to find out. you can only see so much on here.

It's worth the extra 300 to just stay at the west Baden. And it takes a lot for me to say that. The lady who check us in absolutely didn't want to be there. I called and asked if I could get another blanket, as there were none in the closet and was told "only if you come and get it" Which was beyond rude But okay Fair You're by yourself Then the school bus of kids came with kids running around the halls beating on doors I called 4 times before anything was done. Then some sort of reunion started in the lobby (all after "quiet time" 10 pm with loud men laughing and carrying on. It wouldn't be a problem if they moved to a room or a conference room Went to the desk, since I got no answer on the 5th phone call in 2 hours And she never came to the front. They had a large tv, fridge, microwave, coffee Keurig with 4 coffees and even sugar/cream, separate shower area so both could get ready. Breakfast buffet was delicious!! They had oatmeal with lots of topping options, silk milk/regular milk, 4 different juices, 9 different coffee choices, eggs, bacon pancakes and do yourself waffle maker. The potatoes needed to be more krispy in my opinion but they were well seasoned.They even had fresh fruit topping available and peanut butter!!! Highly recommended!!
