This hotel is ok, but I didn't know somethings going in, that I wish I had. The biggest one is CELL PHONE RECEPTION IN THE PARK/INN IS SPOTTY AT BEST. I stayed for two nights. I was worried that my elder parents or pet sitters would not be able to get ahold of me. No room phones either. Wifi was also spotty. Wifi didn't work more than it worked in my room. Be prepared for lots of walking. I had an injured person in my party, and she wasn't able to do most things. Also, the room was small! The bathroom door was only two feet wide and the bathroom itself was very narrow. One of the beds was against the wall. Also the restaurant was buffet only. There was no menu ordering. Now that I have complained a lot, heres the nice things. Staff was very nice. Things were very clean. Parking in the garage was easy. Each room had a minisplit heat/ac unit. It worked very well. There is a page in the room binder on how to change the temperature, fan speed, and blowing pattern. The beds were very comfortable and came with six pillows on each bed. There was an in room refrigerator.The Pioneer Village was very nice. It was also very nice that a church service was offered in the Pioneer Village. I greatly enjoyed it, but only happened to find out about it by accident. I didn't visit it, but there was a game room available. I really enjoyed the outdoor patios at the hotel. They are conveniently located and well kept. The view from the patios of the large trees and rolling hills was beautiful. read more

My spouse and I wanted to go to check out the openhouse for the newly renovated Spring Mill Inn. The openhouse was November 20, 2024. They have reconceptualized the inn. The construction lasted two years. As you enter the inn, you will discover they have done away with stairs and curbs. When you come inside, you will find a ramp where the front desk used to be. The front desk as well as the shop are connected to the sitting area. The restaurant and lower level are redone. The pool is gone. it will be replaced by a splash pad. They have added walk in showers to a couple of rooms. they plan to add a second elevator on the outside with a glass enclosure. Of the indiana inns, this will be the most handicapped accessible inn in indiana. read more

We had gone for lunch. For a buffet there sure wasn't much to choose from. The had fried chicken but only white meat available and it was over cooked. They had meatloaf, . The only vegetable they had was green beans. Then there was Mac n cheese. They had 3 choices of desserts. I was so disappointed as we hadn't been able to go for several years. The cost was way too high for the small amount of food offered. They didn't even have persimmon pudding. . I really didn't see much change to the place unless it was in the rooms. I sure hope it improves when we return to Southern Indiana. read more

Spent some time here while staying at the RV park and thought it was very nice. Cute decor/theming and very well maintained exterior/common areas! Several food options, little gift shop, and information about the activities going on across the park are available within. Parking is free and close to the inn. Breakfast buffet reminds me of a typical free hotel breakfast, so we thought it was overpriced for what it was... in general, the restaurant staff seems a bit disorganized and unmotivated. Overall a relaxing setting and supposedly is being remodeled in the next year and spruced up! Looking forward to staying here sometime. read more

Worn out and dirty rooms. Hardly any electrical outlets and zero by the desk in the room. For the love of god DO NOT pull the bed back to find an outlet - no one wants to see that. Place is basically old with no modern amenities. Think an old Motel 6. Hey, at least it didn't smell and the the thermostat worked. read more

This past weekend we were able to attend a marriage retreat at Spring Mill inn and we were very content and satisfied with our stay. The customer service was very accommodating and helpful and the wait staff were extremely nice as well. It was a huge group of us and it's the perfect place to get away from the world and focus on your significant other and or family members. We were able to check in easily and check out no problem. They have a pool, which was nice and a full blown restaurant inside. The restaurant was nice, my least favorite was breakfast. I wish they offered some sort of turkey sausage or turkey bacon but it's all good. I also realized the cereal was generic but lunch and dinner were fairly good! Pros Customer service Decent clean rooms DVD player and can rent movies Cons Breakfast food It cost $50 if you lose your room key Very limited access to WiFi, which was a healthy thing for all of us. The rooms were small, but it was built in 1916. My room was clean. Not much of a view, and there was no mini fridge or microwave in the room. I got there early and they let me check in early . The lounge and the game room were nice. Wish they had, had a hot tub . The restaurant was fantastic. The food was amazing and portions were large. Even if you don't stay in the hotel do make sure you eat at the restaurant. The staff were nice and helpful. The gift shop was nice, but small. read more

The best reason for staying here is its proximity to the beautiful park and hiking trails and the charm of staying at an inn that is roughly 90 years old. As you walk into the building through the large doors, you are immediately greeted by a large room with an enormous fireplace on the right. Spread throughout the room are rocking chairs, tables, and other stuffed chairs for people to visit, play cards, etc. There entire back is glass doors looking out onto the deck (there was a wedding held there the weekend we were there). The stonework and woodwork is nothing short of stunning. Some of the logs are easily 12" wide. To the left is the dining room. It is paneled with real wood panels. Very mature trees were used to decorate this room. There is a game room down a short flight of stairs, in that room is an air hockey table, a ping pong table, some arcade video games, more stuffed chairs and rocking chairs and tables and another enormous fireplace. The indoor / outdoor pool is located on this level. Its not huge but plenty big for the kids to enjoy. There is also an Olympic size pool in the park area, but it was not open yet. I'm told it was the first olympic size pool in southern Indiana. The guest rooms are similarly decorated and overlook the park, which is simply beautiful. The down side, I don't think the hallways were air conditioned, they were stale and muggy. Also, we only had two towels in our bathroom, no bathmat, washcloths or hand towels, I had to go down and request them. Not a big deal. Some of the towels were frayed. The room had a refrigerator and a microwave. The bed was fairly comfortable. The AC in the room worked - not as well as I would have liked, but well enough for people not enduring hot flashes. My biggest complaint is the carpet. In high traffic areas it was threadbare. It looked to be about 30 years old and didn't look like it had been properly cleaned in at least ten years. If you are here for the history, nostalgia, hiking, and the park this is the perfect place to stay. If you are expecting Marriott standards, you should look elsewhere. read more

Sometimes things like spas, gourmet cooking and cell phone service aren't as important as sitting by the fire playing a board game and living a simpler life surrounded by nature. For these times, Spring Mill State Park Inn is a great place to visit! I visit Spring Mill State Park every March as the overnight stop on a wine trail in Southern Indiana. Located about an hour south of Bloomington, it's a cute, no frills state park inn. Walking in the main doors into the lobby, you immediately see a lot of sitting areas with a fireplace, and usually a lot of people reading and relaxing in front of the fire. The basement has an indoor pool that is typically overrun with kids, but also another fireplace with plenty of places to sit and chat, board games, and an arcade with air hockey, ping pong tables, and some limited vending machines. If you get hungry late at night, I suggest bringing your own food as the cafeteria closes early, and the only options are vending machines that don't take credit cards (or if they do, it never seems to work). I wouldn't call the kitchen and dining room a restaurant. I think cafeteria is much more fitting. I had Sunday brunch there recently, which was a $7 buffet that had all of the staples on it: eggs, meats, fruits, yogurt and granola, pancakes, juices, etc. For $7 a person, you couldn't beat it. A few notes: Wireless internet is available for free in the rooms and common areas. Parking is free (and half of the structure is covered), but there is NO CELL SERVICE! read more

What a beautiful Inn! Nestled in the heart of the Hoosier National Forest, Spring Mill Inn boasts incredible views at a very affordable price. We stopped here for lunch while taking a photography tour. The buffet only cost $8.99 and is full of great homestyle choices. The best part is the wide array of pies. They had over 10! The park is gorgeous, has a lake, several caves where you can take guided tours for $3, and the historic Pioneer Village. I love Turkey Run and Clifty Falls, but this park might be sliding it's way to number 1. read more

OH Spring Mill Inn, where do I begin. We took advantage of their off season $69 any room any night deal. Because of this and also there was a wedding going on, the Inn was completely booked. We had slim pickings to choose from for our room. We ended up on the third floor right across from the staircase (which was noisy). Pros: -Large game room with arcades, ping pong for $1, puzzles, and kid area -Large lobby with fireplace, books, piano, TV, and puzzles -Inside and outside pool -DVD rental: $5 for movie, popcorn and candy bar -parking garage -The staff was friendly and helpful Cons: -This Inn is EXTREMELY outdated. It needs renovated badly. The bathrooms in the each room are so small and the showers are ridiculous. They are so small the shower curtain kept sticking to me, and even at 5'3" I had to duck down to get under the shower faucet...it was way too low on the wall. -Even with cable TV in the room, there were only about 15 channels, mostly news and local channels -The basic rooms do not have a microwave or fridge. We had to sneak into the employee lounge to microwave our popcorn for the movie. - The meals in the dining room are pretty expensive. Brunch is $13.99 for a buffet. -There is no early check-in i would not stay at this Inn again, even at the discounted rate. I do like the State Park however... camping is the way to stay at this park! read more

Ok service. People seem nice. Power went out for whole resort one day. We should have canceled but didn't want to derail vacation plans at other parks later in the week. Then when we arrive power is on but at dinner the fire alarms kept going off throughout property but we were told to ignore the alarms. What if there was a real fire later? We were told by staff that these types of problems were not uncommon. One member of our group saw vomit on porch and pool area from out of control wedding day before. Rooms on first floor and even the restaurant full of musty moldy stink. We moved to a better room on corner of 3rd floor. But still there was a lot of visible mold on bath ceiling. No cellphone service meant no calling or texting for most people in our party for the duration of our 3 day 2 night stay The Restaurant has a very limited menu for anyone but especially for non meat eaters or those seeking healthy nourishment after day of exercise. Food is overpriced for what you get except soup which was good and plentiful. We were told the buffet was not returning after covid. Beds and pillows were comfortable. Room not properly cleaned or stocked. We found old food on the floor and even cigarette butts in the corner of our 3rd floor room when we got there. You have to wonder if that had been there since indoor smoking was banned ages ago. Maid did not clean or replenish room after our first night. Park is nice but nothing special nature wise. For example no waterfalls and on even the most popular trails the steep wet downhills include danger signs rather than stairs.. The park has a nice pioneer village but the day we went no re- enactors or park staff were present, only workers at the concessions and gift shop. We heard other days may be better staffed. They appear to be doing some upgrades, and of course, covid, so its possible the future may show improvements on our problems. read more

My hiking club, the Indianapolis Hiking Club, does an annual weekend 'retreat' here in March. Since I am training for a half marathon and needed to get my Saturday morning training run in, I opted to come down here to Southern Indiana for the Saturday afternoon hike with 3 of my hiking friends. This weekend was dedicated to a long time IHC member who had recently passed away and to celebrate his widow's 96 birthday which is Monday. After a 3 hour drive -- in the rain -- to Spring Mill State Park, we arrived about an hour before the afternoon hike. One of the members who was staying at the Inn graciously allowed us to use her room as our 'staging' area to keep our hiking stuff. We finished our leisurely, sometimes rainy, 6 mile hike in about 2.5 hours. Spring Mill State Park is absolutely gorgeous and very well maintained. This was my first trip to the park and made me ever so grateful that these parks exist for our hiking pleasure and to enjoy being in nature no matter what kind of weather we are experiencing. "We ain't afraid of no stinkin' rain!" say IHC members who hike in all kinds of weather...which is a good thing since winter can last a long time. I have to admit, I prefer to hike in snow rather than rain, but it is what it is :-) After the hike, we went back to our hiking friend's room and had a great time talking and laughing and 'cleaning' up for the evening's buffet dinner. Our group -- 63 opted to stay for the dinner - had the Lakeview Room and the food was surprisingly very good for a buffet. We topped the dinner off with a video taken over the years of past hikes and birthday cake to celebrate the 96 year 'young' Nell's birthday. We then drove the 3 hours back to Indy rain-free. My goal this year is to try and visit all of Indiana's State Parks and really get my annual pass money's worth :-) I'll be back to Spring Mill -- I'm betting it is gorgeous in the other seasons! read more

My family and I used to stay at Spring Mill Inn every year while I was growing up. It has been 20 years since I've been back. We were there for one night prior to my grandmother's funeral (she was buried at the Spring Mill State Park graveyard). Suffice it to say, the inn has not changed anything in over 20 yrs. The rooms are musty and old. The TVs are old and you're lucky to get 10 channels. The wireless is so weak, the only service you can get is in the lobby; no service in your room. When we complained about the wireless, the lady at the front desk apologized and said others are having the same issues, but their bandwidth can't support everyone at the hotel. The bathroom is very outdated...straight shower curtain rods (most nowadays are at least the curved ones!), old curtains, old soap, no coffee, and no iron/board in rooms. The food in the dining room is the same as I remember...much like an old buffet from 1980...lunch/dinner is all unhealthy...fried chicken, fried tenderloin, meatloaf, green beans, a variety of ready-made salads covered in mayo and a very slim salad bar w/ limited options. My mom found a long hair in her chili. We looked at the small menu to find any other options other than the old buffet, but it was a list of 5 items and all were fried. Breakfast in the morning was powdered eggs, overcooked bacon, cold pancakes, greasy sausage patties, gravy thick enough to be jello and biscuits hard as a rock. Having said all this, the service was great; hosts and waitresses were nice. Almost all of the games in the game room were out of order and had been for sometime. The pool looked fun, but we never went. We would not stay again nor would we recommend it to anyone. For the price we paid for our room, we expected MUCH more and Spring Mill Inn needs to seriously consider updating a few key aspects not the least of which is the "free" wireless...no wonder it's free...it doesn't work. read more

I stayed last Friday night my back still hurts from that lumpy hard thing they called a bed. The room was old and grimy the ceiling was even dirty. The tub was a death trap super slick and tiny and speaking of tiny I have closets bigger than that room, it must have taken magic to get that king bed inside it. read more

I wanted to love Spring Mill Inn, I truly did but the stay didn't even come close to wowing me or my husband. I booked a King size room. Upon check-in, my husband was given a key to our room (I was visiting with a friend at the time and not present for the check-in) where he found we were given two queen beds. He then went back to the front desk to see what was going on. Apparently, there was only one king room left and the air conditioning wasn't working. My husband asked if there was a price difference and was told there was not a manager on duty (this was about 7pm on a Saturday) but to check back in the morning to see about adjusting the price. So, after visiting with friends, we returned to the hotel later that night. My husband was going to hop in the shower and saw that the shower had clearly not been cleaned since the previous guest-there was a partially used bottle of shampoo and broken bars of soap in corner. Gross!!! After waking in the morning, I got ready and went to the front desk. I was told that my cc would be credited $22.30 upon check-out. I also voiced concern about the condition of the shower and was told they were sorry and would bring it to the attention of the housekeeping staff. Additionally and oddly, our room was equipped with freestanding dehumidifier. If not ever seen that in a hotel. The place desperately needs updating. Two stars given because the grounds were beautiful and an adequate supply of comfy pillows were available. read more

Updated Review!! 10/30/2015 - 11/01/2015 It's still a great place. This time, we were in room 112, in the updated section of the hotel. Furnishings are the same, however the room felt bigger and the bathroom was a bit nicer. Still a little clinical feeling, but overall, we were still very pleased. Still had a king bed room. We asked for extra towels and pillows and almost instantly they arrived. Room has its own HVAC, so that's nice, and while not too many wall plugs, they had two power strips, so that was very handy. Would still like to see two bedside tables, not just one. A couple of suggestions. I wouldn't call them gripes, though. The wifi is still dodgy. I know that most people go to State Park Inns to get away and disconnect and that's awesome! We do too! Usually, though, near the end of the day if I'm relaxing, I like to go online or we were going to stream a movie. The wifi connection was very erratic and inconsistent. Also, the breakfast Buffett food could be better tasting. Service this time around though was much improved! Also, I'd like to see the pool area updated and a hot tub installed in place of the changing rooms. Most people just change in their rooms anymore. The pool was heated for this time of year and it actually felt really good! I'd estimate the water temp was about 85°F. We even swam under the divider and, despite it being 45°F outside, the water felt great. Anyways, that's my updated review! ___ We stayed here Friday night and had a pretty good time. The inn is nice, however, the room was a little dated. Bed was comfortable and had a flatscreen tv with DVD player. You can rent DVD's for $3 at the front desk. Like I said, the room was relatively nice. The bathroom was a little clinical looking, as you can see from the photos. I feel that they take pride in cleanliness in the hotel, because it always smelled clean. Had a pretty nice view. Wifi, even though it showed up on our devices and connected, didn't actually work. The pool. The pool is pretty nice however it is small. It was crowded, though, but that comes with the territory. It's an indoor/outdoor pool with a wall you swim under. There are also sliding doors that you can walk out. Inside pool was around 3-4 feet deep, while outside pool was up to 9 feet deep. Parents with young children please understand that the outside pool is deep and there are NO LIFEGUARDS ON DUTY! Also, other parents and patrons aren't responsible for your children, so put your Facebook down and be mindful. The pool is heated and felt decent. There are showers/change rooms and restrooms, as well as sitting areas inside and out. We had the breakfast buffet and it was mediocre. The service was horrendous. They weren't that busy, and our waitress basically ignored us. We ran out of drinks and she would walk past and if we motioned for her, it seemed that she ignored us. We ultimately flagged down the hostess for our refills. Also, the food just wasn't that great. It was ok, though, and it filled us nicely. Overall, we had a really nice time and would stay again. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Spring Mill Inn. All of the staff were courteous and helpful. We had a double bed room.. It wasn't spectacular but it felt just right for that setting. The bathroom was kinda small but it got the job done. The beds felt good. We got the bed and breakfast package and I believe we saved money that way. Our breakfast for 2 days came with that price. The breakfast buffet was pretty good. We got a waitress even. The plates were fiesta so that was a plus to me. The swimming area was great with the indoor/ outdoor heated pool. Very nice. We also enjoyed the gift shop at the Inn. They seemed very trustworthy.. Like they left merchandise outside of the shop and it was nice that we felt we were trusted. The only downfall at the INN is that they don't allow pets.. We would have loved to bring our yorkie. The beautiful, rustic, Americana decor at the Inn really set the mood. We will definitely be back to stay there! :) p.s.- the only downfall was no service through the whole park! But sometimes it's nice to not worry about what's going on back home when you're relaxing! read more

Very friendly staff and a nice place to stay. Comfortable common areas with lots of places to lounge in the main lodge building. You're within a 10 minute walk of the Spring Mill Pioneer Village and the Gus Grissom Memorial as well. Good, hearty food in the restaurant and excellent prices. The persimmon pudding for dessert was exceptional! The rooms are a little small and a bit on the institutional side - nothing to write home about. But the cost is very reasonable and the whole package is a great value. read more

Each item was fresh (it is summer and vegetables abound) interesting flavors and the persimmon pudding a treat. We all ate too much but it was worth it, very memorable. I've been coming here since I was young, so one star is added in for the nostalgia factor. My family has been coming here for years, as not only is it convenient to get to surrounding towns, but also offers a beautiful surrounding with great accommodations. The staff at the hotel try to make it a very friendly place, though that may just come with the Southern Indiana hospitality. But nobody in the hotel, including guests, is against saying "Hi" and having a conversation. The restaurant within the hotel is a somewhat hidden gem that isn't something that's usually found in other state parks. But, for what you get for the price, it's understood on why even locals come in for a meal. It's not the typical overcooked, cafeteria style garbage, but some pretty darn good fare! And the buffet is a heck of a deal, and the staff keeps the food fresh. read more

Drove all the way from Salem to eat there because a lot of people said the food was great.Walked in, took one look at what they were calling food,and put my plate back.My friend that was with me was hungry, so she made her a plate.She had some so called shrimp that was nothing but breading and tails,and wasn't even worth eating.The chicken looked like leather,it looked like it had been under a heat lamp all day.The only thing that looked worth eating was the deserts,but I didn't drive over 20 miles for a piece of pie.Would not go back to eat there even if the food was free.Don't waste your time or gas to eat there.By the way,my friend got sick to her stomache before we even got home.Just plain nasty,and over priced is the best way to describe the experience. read more

We were at Spring Mill in early July 2014 and felt these reviews needed updating. On previous visits, Spring Mill Inn restaurant has had wonderful buffet meals and we loved to eat there. Not this time. No buffet and the food ordered from the menu was not good. The restaurant has changed and not for the better. read more
