Pricey haircut for a barbershop that can't even blend a fade well. It's one of those barbershop where they'll give you a high fade when you ask for a medium. I asked for a medium low just to make sure my barber knew that I didn't want the medium up so high but ended up getting a high fade instead... might as well go to a super cuts read more

A breath of fresh air in this Bible Belt small town, Bluejay's Barber Shop & Beauty Bar is the one place I will miss most once we move. I absolutely adore the vintage barber shop decor and theme. Every time I walk in, I am always greeted with a friendly "Hello." I can't really speak for the men's side (although those boys do seem so relaxed with the warm, wet towel application - I almost wish I had a beard so Jack could cover my face with pure relaxation....so to speak?), but I can't say enough about Renee, the only lady who has done my hair there the past year. I was a "virgin head" when I met her (never dyed my hair before) and she carefully transformed my hair into something special. Ladies - she knows what she's doing. She pays attention to your type and style, and carefully caters to your needs. My hair has never been healthier, and I owe it all to Renee. Plus, she's a riot - I guarantee her hair color will be different every time you see her. Tip - It seems most guys can just walk in for a haircut, but sometimes the place can easily get swamped. For years I would stop in to whatever hair cutting place I would see as I drove down the road. And for years I suffered from subpar haircuts. On rare occasion I would get a cut that was done well and nice, alas the next time I returned it was an all-new crop of "stylists" and more poor haircuts. That is now all in the past! I stopped in to BlueJays because I was looking for both a professional barber and an old style barber shop with the services provided there. A place that when you walk in you already know the name of your barber and most likely they know yours. Ricky Davis sat me in his chair and asked what I wanted, I told him a #2 on the sides and back all the way up and trim the thinning top. Not only did he give me the best haircut I've had in decades, he razor shaved the back and trimmed my ears and eyebrows (not the level of service you'd get at a chain store place). I felt fantastic when I left, I felt like I had done something nice for myself (now I understand why my wife like her stylist so much). Next time I go I'm going to let them give me a razor shave, and I'm scared to death of razors. Finally took my friend's advice to get a haircut a Blue Jay's and glad I listened! The first time I went as a walk-in and sat in Emma's chair. She was very friendly and outgoing and did a fine job! The next couple times I dropped in as a walk-in again and got Josh's new apprentice Jake as my barber. He did a great job too and was also fun to talk to. Finally I made an appointment with Josh for a haircut and straight razor shave. His reputation is well deserved! Been a few times with good cuts, but the last time I will ever go they told me a 15 minute wait, over an hour and a half later I was still not seen without any remarks from the staff, one of the staffs friends came in without an appointment and was seen before me, I was the only person waiting and was doing so for over an hour. There was a time when I did not know what it was like to have a great haircut. I could find places that offered decent haircuts and horrible disasters, but the art of cutting a man's hair is not overflowing with masters. Thankfully, I found a spot where a few of these masters gather. Jack has been cutting hair longer than I have been alive. That means he's seen every head shape out there, he knows what hairstyles are timeless, and I suspect he knew what I wanted before I said a word. Much like tailoring an outfit, straight razor detailing on the back of the neck and sideburns serve to polish the job just right. To all you men out there who are tired of bad haircuts and stylists who don't understand how to make hair look decent if it isn't shoulder length, this is the place to go. I wish I didn't have to give this place such a low rating. The atmosphere was really cool and defiantly a great addition to the downtown. I was told that they had a few ladies there that could do woman's hair and they could do a great job at retro hairstyles. I called ahead to ask if they were able to do victory rolls and I was told that was not a problem at all. The lady, Renee, seemed super excited to do this hair style. So before I start pointing out why i gave this shop a low rating , I would like to point out the great 1st. This is a top notch barber shop. If I was rating the barber side of things I would give it 5 stars, in fact more if I could. While getting my hair done I saw great cuts and great shaves. Boys and short haired ladies go here now!!!! So back to the wedding hair. Renee was not able to do what we asked for at all. She was cussing while attempting to go a victory roll on my MOH. She couldn't do it. why? Well she didn't curl it right it or tease the hair to hold the curl. She blamed it on my MOH's bangs . This was unprofessional and very disappointing. I was able to do a victory roll on her hair several times before that day. Also I told Renee about 8 times that my MOH's hair had a difficult time holding curl. She didn't turn up the heat on the curling iron, hardly used any product and it showed. Her hair fell straight In less than an hour. We had to curl it ourselves at the hotel since we were on a super tight schedule. Also I had to redo my other bridesmaids hair as well. Mine fell before the ceremony as well. She told us to come back in if it had fell but we didn't want to bother due to the morning experience. So to make this super long review come to an end. First time great experience...second time sign on door says walk ins welcome, I went in the barber who greeted said finishing here and then one ahead of you, doesn't walk ins usually mean immediate available? I agree to wait through both cuts, the barber finished the cut in front of me cleaned up walked to the front door changed the sign to no walk ins, which I thought was for my cut, and walked out the back door.
