I had an extremely disappointing experience at this boutique on July 27, 2026. I purchased a pair of sweat​ pants, shoes and a necklace. When I returned​ the following day to make a return, the employee helping me (who I assumed was the manager​ due to her age) informed me that the necklace was a final sale item. I accepted that and simply said that, in the future, it would be helpful to let customers know at the time of purchase that an item is final sale. Instead of acknowledging my feedback, she immediately became defensive, insisted she had told me, and was unnecessarily rude. I calmly explained that I understood the policy, but I am certain I was never informed that the necklace was final sale. Rather than providing good customer service, she continued to argue with me. As I was leaving, I said to my sister, "Wow, I won't be shopping here again." A younger employee overheard me and loudly replied, "Good." That comment was incredibly unprofessional and confirmed exactly why I won't be returning. I've never been treated so disrespectfully in a retail store. I understand that stores have return policies, and I respected theirs. What I cannot overlook is the rude, dismissive, and hostile customer service. Unfortunately, this experience ensured that I will never shop here again, and I cannot recommend this boutique to others. Every time we come into town my aunt takes us here, And in the pass years it's always been kind, cute clothes and just a good shopping experience. Well now we went in and the service was so snotty, the workers were more attentive to the customers that look like they had money. Once I left my dressing room to show my party my clothes, what looked like the manager or owner quickly gave my dressing room away to the nicely dressed customer she was helping. I'd just graduated with my master's degree from CSUSM, and I'm not a resident of the area. My husband, in-laws, and I all flew down from the SF Bay Area for the graduation. That night, we ate in Carlsbad, and while waiting for our table, we walked around and down the street. Since Blues and Shoes opted to have their sale items on racks outside, this compelled my mother-in-love and I to browse the racks. I ended up finding a kimono I liked, so I went inside to browse. The two girls in the store were super pleasant. One girl (she told me her name and I forgot!!) was GREAT without being pushy. She pointed out a few other kimonos, reminded me that the one I'd just chosen was on sale, and left me alone to browse. Upon checkout, we had a nice conversation about school since she questioned why I was in the area. I admitted that I'd graduated from CSUSM that day, she congratulated me and told me her mother worked in higher education. She talked about her mother and her own education plans. So .... I avoid cheap boutique stores like this as a general rule. Things fall apart and the return policies are normally ridiculous. Was on my way to LAX for a work trip and needed some new basic camis. Fine. Got my camis saw a very cute summer shirt and thought "no way this can go badly, give it a chance". Bought the shirt - took the tag off packed it for my trip. Got to my destination realized there was a hole in the shirt along the seam, thought "no big deal, will just exchange it when I get home". Called the store to explain the situation and that I wanted to see if I could EXCHANGE (not looking for a refund or store credit) I still had the tags although not attached and had my credit card statement showing a charge 9 days prior. Well, because the tags aren't attached and I don't have the original receipt, they "cannot exchange the item". Cannot or will not? I get there are people out there that do shady stuff, but I bought a shirt with a hole (that shouldn't have had a hole - I'm not that trendy ) and I would like to get what I paid for. I have choices when I shop as does everyone. While I could shop there again, I will not. read more

The girls are real sweet and they have REALLY cute things! But nothing makes me crazier than to pull my purchases out of a too small bag, which they were literally stuffed in, to find every item a wrinkled mess. Who can now wear this sweater. I'm 0 for 2 in this town for proper merchandise handling. So I spent $120 and this is what I pulled out. It literally took me 1 minute to fold the items with care so as to show respect for my clothing items and to prevent unnecessary wrinkling. Do I have to do a class in downtown Carlsbad? My goodness people! Clothes are expensive and we work hard for our money. It's not enough to be nice. Show that you care about the money people spend at your store by actually folding the items with care and putting them neatly in an appropriately sized shopping bag. It matters! read more

I'm the worst procrastinator ever and I always end up finding outfits for events at the last minute, I love this place for that. I walk in and tell the girls I'm in a hurry and what I need an outfit for and the look I'm going for and they dress me quick and I can get in and out for an affordable price and look super cute. I would give 5 stars but the clothing quality is like forever 21/HM etc- I don't mind paying more for stuff that lasts a little bit longer! Cool little shop with TONS of clothing. Most of the clothes are pretty modern but the girls do try to help you pick out some outfits. They didn't have a whole lot of stuff that peaked my interest but I was able to walk away with an outfit. Some stuff was just a little too "showy" for my style. They have shoes, jeans, tops, shirts, skirts, dresses, belts and jewelry. Pretty much everything you need to complete your ensemble. Today was my first time visiting Blues and Shoes, and I loved the store! It has a very downtown Nashville vibe if that makes sense, and everyone was very friendly. I recommend this store to anyone who likes cute affordable flowy kinds of styles. Unfortunately I don't think there are too many plus size options. I'm about a 6 but I think the clothes wouldn't really fit someone who wears a 12 or larger? Idk - hopefully I'm wrong. But I will definitely go back :) I read the reviews and was a little reluctant to shop here, but I think the complaints about the "aggressive" employees are a little overstated and ridiculous. I shopped, was asked if I needed help, was offered recommendations and the employees were really friendly. Maybe it is store policy to ask if you'd like to try something else, but what's the harm in that? Seriously some people *insert eye roll* Kat (or Cat?) was so nice and super helpful after I asked for some help and she was the first one to ask me if I wanted a fitting room. So for the negative...although the customer service appeared to be be good, it got out of hand. One of the employees was very helpful and helped me pick out a few items. Unfortunately, she just didn't stop picking out items for me - It made me feel pressured to buy. THIS PLACE IS MY JAM!!!!! I love their bohemian style clothing, their wide selection, their super reasonable pricing, but most of all the AMAZING customer service. Everyone is so genuinely nice and truly takes the time to get to know what you're shopping for so they can help you if you'd like. I haven't been to many places where they help assemble outfits and accessories, so this is such an amazing experience that I believe everyone deserves to have. It's like having your own personal stylist, and the best part is that all of the employees are so stylish and fashionable that you truly can trust their input/suggestions. I stopped in to Blues yesterday, after shopping at ragz, but was in a rush so I looked around real quick with the intention of coming back today. For the few mins I was there yesterday, Zoe talked to me about what I bought next store at ragz (small talk) etc. When I walked in today I heard Zoe say "Hi Ashley, you're back!!", this was so sweet of her to make an effort to remember my name after talking with her for a few mins (A1 customer service). She helped me pick out pieces to try on, specific for the event I was shopping for (which was a wedding). She had great suggestions, that I seriously loved!! I highly recommend shopping here and while you're there, check out ragz next store and Flourish across the street. Although they steer towards a more bohemian chic style, I found the dress I needed for a garden style wedding amongst several other amazing outfits. I use to work here years ago and it's so disappointing to read the consistent reviews (new and old) from customers about how their employees are still till this day being trained to incorrectly build rapport with their customers in regards of the owners mentality on what they like to call "personal styling" and "consistent additional items to your customer". I was very naive when I worked here and it was so triggering the things I was told while working here. I was loudly told by the owner that I was "wasting my money" when I brought a jacket which wasn't worn on the sales floor from somewhere other than their stores, I was wrongfully terminated for "not being enthusiastic enough" as well. When in reality it's unrealistic to keep up with their "standards". This also explains why they are always looking for hiring new employees via craigslist. Please keep in mind that the girls working here are being constantly pressured by the owners to project such over bearing service every time someone walks in, this is even applied to customers who have visibly purchased items from their sister stores and want to check out the others. Please have sympathy for any girl currently working in the store who are all trying to please such belittling store and employee standards. read more

Overpriced Tourist Trap lacking quality customer service. I have been a shopper here for years (also Rags, Ragz Revoltuion, & Flourish) good for a quick cute outfit (unfortunately their clothes as cute as they are don't wear or wash well, they look good the first time and then they look old). BUT after getting really poor customer service after a $30 magnetic clasp bracelet broke after the first time wearing it, I wont be back, IN FACT, there is an independent boutique across the street that has some of the same brands, much better customer service, and they actually care about their customers (OC on Melrose). When I attempted to exchanged my bracelet, I was told of their final sale policy on all jewelry and they would not exchange it or contact the vendor, they offered no assistance, and when I let them know that I'm local and have been shopping there for years, it was of no concern. I walked out and let them know that I would not be back, and they did not care....so as a small business owner myself, Im taking time to write a review and say SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!.... unless you have a disposable income for one time wear clothes and jewelry. read more

Okay....I would totally give this place 5 stars but the girls that work here are trained to be SAVAGES. It's VERY apparent that they get paid for commission on sales because they PUSH clothes on you EVEN WHEN YOU SAY NO!!!! For a boutique the clothes are fairly priced and very cute but again....SAVAGES. TO THE OWNER: We get it, making sales drives your business but EVERY SINGLE PERSON I know that has gone into your store felt completely uncomfortable and uneasy because of our sales people. My boyfriend was waiting for me outside and heard two other women who walked out before me complain about the same exact issues. You deserve to have better reviews from your clients because your pricing is fair and your product is great. But because of your sales process you have your customers feeling like bait for vultures. Loved this store very much, but the customer service was wayyyy to pushy and I hate more than anything when I know something obviously looks bad on you and they still continue to tell you how good it looks and I feel like once I didn't buy anything (didn't have a lot of time) they acted like they no longer cared almost to a point it was rude. I did go back later on that day because I did want to buy some stuff but honestly I think I would have bought more if I didn't feel so forced and watched. They really should work on this issue, all the fake compliments and stuff get old. Like I don't mind a compliment but when every girl compliments you a couple of times it's obviously trying to be to get more sales. FAIL not working if anything making people buy less they really should back off. Loved the store very much would kill to go back and shop! Great clothes, shoes, jewelry, and scarves at this corner store in the heart of Carlsbad Village! The girls that work here are really friendly and fly around the store putting outfits together for you. When you are trying on in the dressing room DON'T BLINK! Your room will instantly fill up with outfits and shoes (those girls are fast!) and you will be waited on hand and foot until you leave the store. I visited during the Yelp Shop Local event and ended up spending around $250 here, oooops! I justified every darn thing I bought and you can bet I lost the receipt immediately too! ;) Sometimes I feel a little peer pressured when I go in here to try on, try on, try on, try on...you get it! Words are not enough to express how great of an experience I had in this store. I'll share the long version, but for those of you who wanna know up front. #1 Ask for Anna. You won't be disappointed. #2 Be prepared to budget out a little of your paycheck so you can come visit often. While we were wandering through Carlsbad on our way to walk the beach, I passed Blues and Shoes. The storefront itself is adorable, but wait until you peruse the store... Walking in just to browse, I got WAY more than I was looking for. All of the sales associates are stylists, so they can hook you up with a look that is fashionable in a second. Shoes, clothes, jewelry, the works. I've been in a fashion funk for a while (can we say mom of 2) and was looking for something new. Without asking my size, the girls whipped up a few quick outfits and I tried on all of them. No, not all of the clothes were flattering, but all of them fit! After finding a few things I HAD to have, it was to my disappointment that my husband had walked off with his wallet in tow. Sad and embarrassed, I had to defer my trip that night. Here is the kicker though. In all of my excitement of finding cute clothes and feeling like a runway model, I wasn't even looking at the clock. The store was closed and the girls kept bringing me things to try on. They were courteous and kind, but sassy and honest as well. I fully believe that if I asked, "does my butt look big in this?" I would have gotten a true answer. They were not pressuring me or making me feel anything but fabulous. The next morning I came back in (I'm sure they thought I wouldn't) to buy my must haves from the night before. I was warmly greeted by Anna, who remembered my name, pulled all of the clothes I had liked from the night before, as well as some other awesome outfits. I must have tried on a million things before I finally put my clothes back on. I left making only a small dent in my wallet, but making a huge impact on my self esteem. Another plus was that I had my 11 y/o daughter tagging along and she was talked to like a person, not a snotty nosed little kid. She actually found a pair of shoes she liked which got lost in the shuffle of clothes coming in and out of my dressing room. Anna gave me a call and held them in case I wanted to purchase them before I left Carlsbad. A million thank you's and 5 more stars wouldn't be enough for Anna and the crew at Blues and Shoes. I would consider myself a new customer of the store and I def plan to be back. They also have 2 other stores with very unique vibes. I plan on checking those out as well. I've found some cute jeans here in the past so I stopped in last Saturday to look for a few new pairs. As many other reviews state they tend to shove tons of other crap into the dressing room with you to "complete the look" which whatever but 9 out of 10 times their taste is totally opposite of mine. But like I said, whatever they are doing their jobs. However Saturday I left almost in tears. I've gained some weight in the last few years that I'm pretty self conscious about & I'm working to shed. Well I grabbed 6 pairs of jeans & headed to the fitting room. About 5 minutes later the associate loudly asks how I'm doing my SIZE ____ JEANS. Loudly. Like you probably could have heard her at the beach. Thanks for announcing to God & everyone what size I am. Something I'm self conscious about already. I love myself & consider myself to be pretty confident but this REALLY embarrassed me. I left without trying the rest of the jeans on. Maybe work on hiring some associates with some couth. read more
