This is their 12th year of having this event and I do believe my wife and I have been to most of them! First off it is an outdoor event under a big tent, rain or shine you are protected. Second it's free! Yep no cost! Third the vendors in the are are very welcoming and ready to sell you adult beverages, or food, ice cream, etc. It is hosted by Charlestons own Shrimp city Slim (Gary Erwin) who himself is the king of the local blues! Every year he searches for musical talent that would fit into this festival. He's never failed yet! this year he had three acts and my all time favorite is SC musician Mac Arnold and his band. His band is from Greenville and he owns a blues restaurant there. Mac Arnold was a bass player for muddy waters and others, wonderful sound and great singing! Easy to dance to folks! The weather this year was a bit nippy which kept the bugs at bay. I think I ate most of the day topping off with ice cream! Recommendations: Bring a chair or blanket, get there early enough to get a good parking spot and above all Greet other blues lovers, we're a groupy bunch! So I wont forget the restroom situation was as you can imagine, three different place you could go, a little dirty but ok for the day. You have to go next year! Bring your kids, alright? read more
