This review is going to focus on a number of elements: Theater company, quality of productions and quality of stage and seating. For those that know the theater scene in Charleston, it is competitive and diverse. Threshold on Society is one of the more intimate theaters and one that has taken a number of risks over the last 5 plus seasons. This season is no exception with the new production "Of Mice and Men" starting this Thursday, January 14, 2016. In the three productions I have been able to attend and tickets for Friday, the shows have been spectacular mostly due to great content and impressive local acting talent. The theater is small, but with great sound and acoustics, the quality of the sound is outstanding. The staff from production to concessions is always so happy and appreciative. There isn't any type of elitist or snubby feel. Everyone is treated with respect and they are so glad to see you. This is truly one of the special theater companies in Charleston.

The well-cultivated set and intimate auditorium put the audience right in the diner with the cast!

Professional in every aspect! Actors were captive in their roles, set was simple but effective. Staff were extremely supportive.

We had no idea when we booked our seats that we'd be in the designated pug section. I looked around and said, "I've never seen so many pugs in one place!" Someone behind us let us know it was a special themed night. The highlight was the pug parade-anyone who brought a pug and wanted to participate got to walk their dog around the stadium. We had such a great time, and our dog Luna did amazing! Apparently, every Tuesday is Bark in the Park, where all dogs are welcome. Each week usually features a specific breed, but dogs of any kind are allowed. They provide water bowls throughout the stadium and often have pet-related merchandise available. Oh, and the RiverDogs beat the Columbia Fireflies-perfect ending to a fun, pet-friendly night!

When I got to the stadium, I ordered a chili dog, and although it was wrapped in foil, it was very cold. Overall, it was still yummy. Maybe it will be warm next time. I had great seats right on the field next to the visitors' dugout. I enjoyed the mini games and contests played during the game breaks. The RiverDogs also won, which made it extra special!

The Charleston Music Hall itself is a beautiful, historic venue--intimate, well-maintained, and known for hosting concerts, comedy shows, and special events. The seating is comfortable, sightlines are good, and acoustics are solid, which definitely worked in favor of the vocal performances. The singers were clearly talented and did a great job vocally--everyone sounded wonderful, and there's no denying the performers can sing. However, we personally felt that the show didn't quite feel like a full "production." It leaned heavily on straightforward singing, with limited storytelling, choreography, or theatrical elements to tie everything together. This may come down to expectations and personal preference. Growing up around Broadway shows in NYC, we're used to more dynamic, story-driven performances with larger production value, and this didn't quite meet that standard for us. While others may enjoy it for the music and holiday spirit--especially in a cozy venue like the Charleston Music Hall--we would probably not attend again, particularly considering the ticket price.
