It's right across from the fire station (kids love fire trucks), in the church parking lot. Dogs aren't allowed so bring a friend to hold her while you shop. You can eat your breakfast together at one of the tables right there at the church outside of the Farmers Market. Parking is available on the street or across the street at another church. It's a great place to hangout for a bit, let the kids explore, eats farm fresh, literally, breakfast, get some great goodies for the week, and RELAX (it's the weekend). This Farmers Market is large enough to give you everything you need or want, and small enough to walk around and still keep an eye on your kids or quickly find a friend to compare your treasures. I love the breakfast omelet, the music is always good and sometimes really, really good. And the people are always friendly and fun. I walk there, but it is worth the drive, and then you can walk around a bit!

It runs from July through September and is part of a program that gives refugees agricultural opportunities in Kentucky. Super awesome! I went here for the first time this morning and was surprised and impressed at the variety of food. Lots of different types of tomatoes, squash, greens, onions, potatoes and more. Heads up: it's all veggies, so it's not a one stop shop. My favorite thing: since this market features vegetables from just one farmer, I didn't have the price/produce quality comparison that happens at other markets where I end up buying potatoes from one vendor and greens from another. Nope, all my purchases went to support one farmer and it was a nice relief not to have to pick through all the stands selling tomatoes to figure out which one to buy from. All of her food is locally grown (her farm is somewhere off of 264) and chemical-free, yay! Oh also, I hadn't seen purple tomatillos at any other markets recently and they were recommended by everyone hanging around so I grabbed several for a salsa. I love seeing out of the ordinary crops, so I couldn't resist. Plus, I'm a sucker for a recommendation.

Not being able to get food, a table, a drink, or get on a hayride just isn't fun. Today we decided to try our luck at a new spot, Sunny Acres Farm. Sunny Acres took us roughly 30 minutes to drive to. Parking was close, easy, and free. Adult tickets are $10. My children (four and under) were free. Sunny Acres has a small storefront with pumpkins, baked goods, salsas, candy apples, etc. They have various vendors lined up on the short walk to the pumpkin patch. Vendors include artists, kettle corn, and other refreshments. Admission includes access to the petting zoo, bouncy house, pick your own flowers, hayride, corn hole, live music, corn maze, games, and playground. My son rode a pony for $2. The lines were either nonexistent or short. The employees (or perhaps owners?) were friendly, accommodating, and provided a family feel that other similar businesses lack. We ate a meal while we were there. We had hamburgers and hot dogs. I know they also had chili behind the storefront and various other food trucks, including ice cream and adult beverages (cocktails and craft beer). I can't think of anything Sunny Acres lacks. I'm actually afraid of word getting out and having to share this experience with too many people. But, this family farm is worth patronizing.

This year they cut the farm production down to 2 acres, and a late freeze caused the loss of some items, including the delicious peaches. :-( But they still have blackberries, and will have some apples later in the season. I appreciate buying locally, reducing my carbon footprint, eating delicious fruit, and making friends in the process. They are off the beaten path, so if you don't find them, that means more for me!! :-)

We generally only come here once a year, which is for our Christmas tree and for their kick-ass…read morecandy. I don't know why it's never crossed our minds to stop by more than once a year, but maybe that'll change? They have a wonderful selection of tress and each year we find one that we think is the perfect size however when we get it home it's almost too big (Christmas tree shopping probz). Their prices are about average and they have a selection of trees for $20 or less -- they tend to have floppy flimsy limbs that don't hold ornaments as well, but they work in a pinch. Immediately upon arrival you are greeted by the guys who work there and they let it be known that they are more than happy to help you find anything you need. We didn't need much help as we only looked for ten minutes or less and we found the tree that we wanted. It only cost us around $30. We showed the employee and he told us to go inside to pay and by the time we got out it was already by the car. While we were inside I had to browse the candy that they have there as well. Who can say no to some sweets during the holidays? I ended up walking out with some snow-caps, peanut brittle, chocolate covered almonds and chocolate turtles for less than $9. Not a bad deal at all. When we got back out they were ready with the tree and they even tied it to the roof for us and it didn't budge the whole way! They also have wonderful wreaths. It's hard to pass them up each year, however we already have a decoration for the front door, so while hard, we end up passing them by each year. Great customer service, great old-fashioned candy and a great selection of trees to bring home for the holiday season. Visit if for no other reason than to get some treats, friendly service and leave with a smile.
