It's on a quiet little side street, with an inviting open door in good weather. The store /gallery has a beautiful assortment of pottery, jewelry, art, pairings, saddles, decor, blankets, leatherwork, and more. This is not an inexpensive tourist trap shop. You'll find wonderful quality, beautifully artistic pieces. Prices vary from low to high - there are wonderful things for most any budget. I came to browse the store first, left, made my rounds of Durango window shopping and did some touristy buys, and then I came back here for my lovely jewelry purchase. The staff were extremely nice, knowledgeable, and helpful. I was impressed with their telling of back stories about the artist who made the earrings I purchased. It made my purchase more personal and special. Stop in. Browse. Staff don't mind lookie lous. Maybe you'll find a treasure too.

Art glass, handmade jewelry of all sorts, handcrafted candlesticks and the like. I saw several things that appealed to me but were impractical for my current lifestyle. And then I saw some "perfect for me" earrings, which my husband purchased as our jointly chosen anniversary gift. And in just the right price range for us, though there are also so many higher end items for sale here. The saleswoman was helpful and friendly and knew everything about each artist represented. I love to find that kind of experience.

At the Durango Arts Center (DAC) you can enjoy the visual arts, theater, dance, live music, and…read moreeducation programs for children and adults. The building housing DAC, was once home to a car dealership and is right across the street from Steamworks Brewery (for other artisan pursuits). In 1997, the community collaborated to fund and renovate the 17,000-square-foot building, which is now home to a gallery, theater, arts library, studio space, and more. Unfortunately, I missed the Patsy Cline show, and limited my visit to the the downstairs art gallery and gift shop areas. I love finding these regional cooperative art centers, as there are always many interesting pieces, a diverse representation of local artists, reasonable prices, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff, and no tourist-related schlock. And outside of the nearby Open Shutter (Contemporary Fine Art Photography), DAC was easily the best place in Durango to go for visual gallery pleasure and the best quality for the artistic dollar. I ended up buying a nice multi-coloured piece of glass that hangs from a handsome and hefty metal pedestal. I bought it for Gayle, but coveted it myself. The DAC staff person wrapped it carefully and successfully for the long journey home. And even though our combined household is cluttered enough, there's always a place in our home for quality art such as this.

My kids' high school put on Broadway level shows. First, your email confirmation said "the show is at 5 pm and the doors open at 7pm." Yup. Second, you didn't start on time. Third. Who wrote these plays, a 1st grader? I stayed for 4 of them before walking out. They were dull, uncompelling and, why would you put actors on the far left of the stage? It was a slog to look over there from the far right side of the audience seating. Total waste of money and time.

Don't get me wrong! That stuff is definitely nice and it has its place, but Studio & has that edgy modern feel that gets me every time! They do openings every so often with free wine and snacks which is always a plus, but most importantly the artists are all down to earth and amazing! Also they are usually at the openings to discuss their prices with the public. It seems like whenever I'm there, there is a new exhibited or newly featured artist. They also participate in the Bizzare Bazzar during Christmas time. Needless to say I got so many unique and quirky gifts for my friends out of town.
