I have spent most of my adult life in the sun. I am 75 and just retired. I began going to GCD about ten years ago. I truly believe they saved my life. I have had numerous skin cancers over the years. I now go every two months for a check up. I have had radiation once during this period. I can tell you "Put on that sun screen". I learned the hard way. It is critically important. Start using sun screen as a youngster. Most of my skin damage was done when I was young. I am paying for my stupidity now. Thank God for the folks at GCD. They have a great staff of knowledgeable employees. Dr. Stickler is the best, period. He runs a tight ship. I have never waited more than five minutes in the waiting room. Pretty incredible, considering the number of times I have been to this clinic!! They make every patient feel special. Kinda of unheard of in today's medical world. There are several exam rooms and surgery centers - clean, modern, great lighting, and the latest equipment. You will be impressed. If you don't have a dermatologist and live on the coast. Dr. Ottesen is a true professional with an impeccable bedside (chair-side) manner to match. Her staff is also a reflection of what kind of practice she runs and I was blown away by the competency, efficiency, and kindness of everyone. The Ottesen team completed my 3 year olds first exam and she couldn't stop talking about how much fun she had at the dentist. I had to go to PA due to a family emergency two days before the surgery. My wife took my son to the appointment. After receiving the bill, she commented that the price was a lot more than we expected; the receptionist said that was pre-insurance and they'd file. When I returned a week later and questioned why we paid the money up front the receptionist told me that Dr. House was no longer in our insurance network. I asked when he dropped out and was first told Jan then May. Regardless sometime between the evaluation and the surgery he dropped our insurance network; telling us didn't make the cut. We found out he was out of the network one week after the surgery. When the insurance paid, our co-pay jumped to $2006.00. I contacted the Dr. office to try to work something out. Our position fell on deaf ears, apparently, they don't believe notifying patients when they drop an insurance network after scheduling a surgery is their responsibility. Somehow that doesn't seem right. Competent surgeon but . . . watch your wallet.

This last exam I pointed out a…read moredry eye condition, most would have dismissed as allergies or age but he proceeded to examine my eyes again and noticed another problem not immediately noticeable, my bottom lids are slightly separating (fractions of millimeters) due to extra sagging skin and do not therefore spread moisture correctly. He gave me a good plan to follow. You're never rushed and he thoroughly goes over last visit first and your general health. The frontline staff are also amazing and eager to help with insurance, referrals, appointments or pricing glasses. Great team, highly recommend and if you're on Medicare/Tricare4Life it's all covered.

The only reason I went the 2nd time is because I cause I can't find anyone else that will take champ va. I do not suggest parents taking their child here. I spoke with the supervisor and had to explain in multiple ways that I just needed a physical and a FL vaccine form for my son. After administering the vaccines which I believe the nurse went too far into the muscle, and the vaccines where right next to each other, she walked away without telling us any side effects or any symptoms to look out for. She seemed bothered by my question and did everything as fast as possible then left with little to no communication.
