We each were gifted a pint of our favorite flavor of the day by our top notch realtor, Sherri Williams ! This flavor was new to me "HEAPS OF LOVE" defined as "Anything and everything you can want! Oreos, brownies, cookie dough, pecans, caramel and chocolate ripples all packed into vanilla ice cream." How can anyone top that? It really is very very good! Hubby got their number one most popular flavor, a chocolate with dark chocolate bits & swirls. I think it was "Brownie Cascade": Classic, creamy chocolate ice cream exploding with brownie pieces, caramel cups and a sweet fudge ripple. Most creative flavor even has a trademark sign: "Exhausted Parent". It is "Bourbon-spiked espresso ice cream swirled with bittersweet chocolate chunks" That has to be my next sample! My only disappointment is that many of the flavors had "high fructose corn syrup" as a top ingredient. Not what one expects when they brag All natural ingredients! Taste is great though! I hate to do it, but I have to update my review. It pains me to not support local businesses. Although this place was great when we first started going, it's really gone down hill. They still have top notch ice cream flavors. However, they are consistently closed when they're supposed to be open. They also have some major grease trap problems-- it smells so bad in there you can't possibly eat inside. One time when we went, they had a very young child scooping ice cream and she licked the scoop and returned it to the tub. As high as the prices have gotten, you would think they could fix their drainage and hire some employees. We've been opting for Edgewood Creamery instead. read more

Their ice cream is distributed by independent ice cream shops throughout the US. I'm guessing it is a premium brand similar to Ben and Jerry's. I had a junior size scoop of butter pecan, and it was very rich and creamy. My daughter had the Exhausted Parent, and she loved it. So if you have a severe allergy, I would think twice and ask specifically if they have utensils specifically for allergy needs. I didn't ask the last time I went, but I intend to do so next time. The girl who served us was extremely pleasant and welcoming, giving us samples and talking with us briefly about Birmingham. I had the chocolate brownie flavor, I forget the exact name. It was good - about on par with Ben and Jerry's version. However, my parents had the "Zanzibar," their award-winning chocolate ice cream, and both agreed that it was some of the best chocolate ice cream they'd ever had. I must agree - it was amazing! Although it's located out in the middle of nowhere, if you're ever close to the location i definitely recommend getting a little treat out of here. the decor is amazing and gives you "old country time feelings" in terms of an ice cream shop. lots of flavors including the basics, but specialty ice creams as well. i got something and i can't remember the name right now but it has brownies, pecans, caramel swirl and vanilla ice cream. they also have italian ice available, milkshakes, and sundaes available. a junior scoop is three dollars while a single scoop is five dollars. i'm taking a star away because one scoop of ice cream being five bucks is a bit expensive. they offer a discount of i think 40 cents if you use cash instead of a plastic to pay. overall a bit pricey but worth checking out at least once read more

First thing, if you haven't ever been here there are some great views of the valley if you are driving from John Hawkins down Shades Crest. Always crowded, but since it's ice cream it never takes the staff long to work their way through the crowd and get all of us dessert minded people taken care of. Great selection of ice cream (check out the pics). plenty of chocolate, fruity, and unique sweet treats (Blue Moon - Tastes like the milk at the bottom of a bowl of fruit loops...seriously this is a flavor). They also make shakes and malts and have a pretty good selection of merchandise (shirts) to purchase. Great little indoor seating area plus kind of a bar table type area that can accommodate quite a few people. Pricing is on par with all of the other ice cream specialty joints ($5 for a single scoop - really larger than it sounds). Overall really good and worth the drive, especially if you can catch the sun setting as you're driving up here. read more

Outside of a few traditional flavors, you can't tell much by the names, so a little reading is required, but I think it would be hard to be disappointed. Tonight's choice for me was a single scoop of Munchie Madness (sweet cake batter ice cream, swirled with a salted caramel ripple, with Oreos, M&M pieces, and peanut butter cups) in a waffle bowl. The ice cream was silky smooth and satisfying. Just a personal preference, but I prefer the waffle cone to the waffle bowl as the bowl was a little too crunchy. Along with Junior, single, or double scoops in cones, waffle cones, waffle bowls, or cups, you can get your fix with a sundae, banana split, milkshake, ice cream float, or, if you prefer non-dairy options, they have icees and sherbet.
