Disappointing Experience. I Would Not Recommend Melissa. I was part of a bridal party recently and had a very disappointing experience with Melissa, the owner. She was unprofessional, dismissive, and extremely difficult to work with. She doesn't handle feedback well, and it created unnecessary stress on what should have been a smooth and special day. Melissa arrived with an assistant from Las Vegas who was clearly inexperienced. Melissa had to redo an updo the assistant attempted. After seeing the result, we suggested switching to a simpler style, but Melissa immediately shut it down, saying there was no time. Strangely, she later changed the hairstyle for another bridesmaid herself. There was no consistency or clear communication. We asked her to adjust a bump in one bridesmaid's updo, and instead of just fixing it, she gave excuses about the amount of hair and pushed back. Eventually, she fixed it, but the attitude made things tense. For the mother of the bride, we asked for soft curls after following Melissa's prep instructions. She refused to do the curls we requested, citing weather concerns. We were in San Diego, no humidity, no issue. After a frustrating back and forth, she finally did the curls, and they held up just fine. To her credit, the bride's hair and makeup turned out great. But Melissa made that process difficult too. The bride brought extensions for added length and had already told Melissa this. Instead of listening, Melissa criticized the extensions before even trying them. She ended up using them for volume instead of length, again, not what the bride wanted. The assistant she brought was a serious problem. Several of us had to redo our makeup and hair after she worked on us. It's clear she needs more training. Most of the glowing reviews I've seen about this place are about Bianca and Erin, now I understand why. They're likely professional, talented, and respectful. They're the ones keeping this business afloat. If you decide to hire from this company, I strongly recommend requesting Bianca or Erin specifically. I would not recommend Melissa at all. Brides deserve better. I will be posting this review on the knot as well. read more

UPDATE: Reading the business owners rude and dishonest response to my review reinforces my statement of what a horrible, ego driven, gaslighting way of conducting business this company has. Literally the most stressful anxiety inducing part of my wedding day was making the mistake to book with Blush By Marie. I lost many nights sleep wondering how I could salvage the engagement with them both so I stopped getting gaslit and so I could get the glam I had deposited for. At the end of the day, there was no way to get glam that was anything but mediocre and no way to not have MAJOR ego and attitude from Melissa the owner. Getting my hair and makeup done for weddings and photos has always been a delight. Working with Blush By Marie it was a nightmare. Booking them was easy, incentivized with them offering me a second free trial if I wasn't fully satisfied with my first trial. This felt like a very safe bet. I couldn't have been more wrong. I put together a Pinterest board for my makeup for my assigned MUA with about 30 images. I messaged her saying I knew my board had various images but found 5 points I liked overall (ie cat eye, heavy contouring, etc.). It seemed like we were on the same page as we were messaging, so when I arrived and we didn't review any images, no alarms went off for me. I was STUNNED by how off the final result was two hours later. It had nothing to do with the images I pinned, the bullet points I shared, and was not at all flattering on my face. I was speechless at how bad I looked with the look she created and immediately tried in a very kind way to see if it was salvageable. She slopped on a few more layers of eyeshadow, gave some attitude and we agreed (over text a few minutes after I left) that a redo trial would be helpful. As I was at the trial, the makeup artist handed me a digital form to sign while chatting about whatever artist was playing on Pandora. Definitely my fault for not taking the time to read all the info I was signing, but it was apparently a form that not only released liability but also said I was happy with my look? I was so so so confused after to find out the MUA had handed me that to sign without letting me know that given the fact that she had to have seen the tears in my eyes at the atrocious trial. Color me shocked when I was contacted by the owner for payment for the redo trial. I let her know that there had been a miscommunication with the artist and she had tried a look that was really different than what I wanted. Melissa, the owner, had SUCH an ego and attitude. I have never encountered such a "customer is always wrong" attitude. She accused me of being rude when I said I felt unattractive in the look the artist had tried on me. She told me I was trying to get something for free by taking them up on the original offer of a second trial for free. She told me I was trying to get her artist to work for free? It was all so confusing that she would be so rude and ego driven over a $200 trial (that she had originally said would be free). I literally got desperate for us to be on a better path of communication and sent her the screenshots showing I had a totally different vision originally shared with the MUA. She literally yelled at me over a call (granted, I also as a result raised my voice) and wrote me rude emails. In her attempt to gaslight me to prove I was wrong, she told me to post the photos of the "gorgeous" trial on the bridal groups as they're usually super supportive. When I followed her directive, I received dozens of comments letting me know how bad of a job had been done and that I should instead "use a professional" and definitely not use this unprofessional MUA. I did a second trial with a ton more communication with my MUA hoping it really was micommunication but it again was unflattering and looked nothing like the looks I was going for. She would regularly brush off any feedback I had with a huge ego and a blanket "well online images are AI" even when the feedback had nothing to do with AI effects. I guess I should have known now looking back why this "VIP" artist's makeup isn't featured often at all on their IG account etc. As I had already put down a hefty deposit I did end up having to use Blush By Marie's artists for my hair. It turned out... Fine? OK? Definitely not $550 worth. While the artist definitely did try, it was lackluster and mediocre. Contracting with Blush By Marie was the biggest blunder of my wedding and I urge brides to not get themselves trapped into a contract with this ego driven and mediocre team. read more

I gave 2 star because the makeup artists arrived on time and were supper friendly and kind. However, I paid $800 for hair and makeup and it didn't meet expectations. I asked for glam waves and stated in the questionnaire I was provided that my doesn't hold curls well and will need extra product/ pins to keep it intact as well as for volume. That was not done, my hair was not pinned or secure and was super frizzy by the time I got to my ceremony 30 minutes later. I had no choice but to go through my wedding day with flat, frizzy hair. I wasn't pleased with my makeup as well. In my questionnaire I had asked for natural glam and no heavy eyeshadow. I had white glitter eyeshadow and the blush was too heavy and orange for my face. I was so disappointed and tried to at least fix my makeup before I had to walk down the aisle, however at that point I had to make the best of it. Let me start by giving a back story. My son is diagnosed with a chromosome deletion of his 12th chromosome and is unable to manage secretions. He spent 6 months in the NICU after multiple surgeries, one including on his throat as he is not able to swallow. He is also strictly tube fed and due to his medical issues he is constantly vomiting, coughing and throwing up. I also suffer from allergies which is always worse in the morning. The stylist was at the home preparing to do everyone's hair and began to ask about why my son is coughing and why I had coughed. She then stated that she did not want to get sick. Which I would understand if we were actually I ill. Her failure to have any cultural competence in regards to disabilit is concerning. My sister, also mother of the bride attempted to explain to her that my son is medically complex and developmentally delayed. The hair dresser then refused to do my hair and makeup, leaving the bride to do my hair.I would not recommend her and would hope if anything that she dictate herself in regards to individuals and children with disabilities and medical complexities. Unprofessional office coordinator named Ashley. When I voiced my concern over having sent five unanswered emails this month to reach them, she rage texted me. There was a problem with the communication system in which when I tried to book, she said I had "ghosted" them too many times. Once through an app that had asked them for a quote a year ago, once when an email had been sent to me saying I would "lose the date if I didn't book immediately due to high demand" (clearly a sales tactic), and when i did personally reach out for a quote and asked if the date was available a year later, they sent me a contract with extra charges and sent a money request through zelle (which I do not have the app to receive such requests.) when I reached out again a couple weeks later saying I'd like to pay (since I had not received the payment request) I was texted with the above information. As someone who works in the industry, I would never handle a situation this way. Shocking coming from a vendor with great reviews, I expected more from them. The owner should look into her coordinator's customer service. Would also like to add that I read through the reviews and the owner seems to attack people through the comments instead of trying to work with them. Seems like a management issue if the owner and office coordinator are both acting this way. I never leave negative reviews.. but brides beware. read more

Canceled my dream wedding due to covid and paid ALOT (around 900$) upfront and when asking for at least a partial refund instead of being professional she sent back " if I did that to everyone I would lose my house." Absolutely dumbfounded by that response. I know there's a lot of people out there that need the money but you should never put it that way to a client. Editing my review due to the comment. My one star review comes from the fact that I got an email the other day stating that my wedding was still continuing and that I still owed the remaining balance on the day of my wedding. I don't write reviews often but I just had to share my experience with Erin from Blush the makeup artist who made me feel so absolutely gorgeous for my renewal of my wedding vows celebrating with my husband of 30 years. Not only did she listen to my wants but she went above and beyond in asking if there was anything I wanted to add at the end of my time with her. I said I would like longer lashes and she literally made it happen and I usually get uncomfortable saying anything but she was so easy to talk to that she made me feel I could say/ask anything. Her communication before my special day was just as comfortable. My 2 girlfriends that stood by my side looked beautiful as well. I will definitely be using her for more of my upcoming events.
