Not crowded and fairly well maintained. Two stars taken off because of entry requires a Suffolk county "green key" which is priced at $30 for 3 years. I live in Nassau county about 20 minutes away and costs me $50 for one year. Penny wise and pound foolish and definitely not very neighborly IMO. I'd happily pay 2X non-resident price and while I'm here patronize local businesses instead of feeling taken advantage of and hightail back to my house. read more

Blydenburgh County Park is a recommended getaway place in Long Island and the drive from Queens was not too bad, taking about 40-50 minutes. During COVID-19 period, there is no parking fee charged but the parking space is limited. The trails are narrow, natural and muddy so visitors must make sure not to wear new shoes. When people pass by each other, they wait at a wider area in order to keep social distancing. The lake views is amazingly beautiful but the soil around the lake was soft and easy to sink. Parents should be careful if kids get too close to the edge. read more

It was my first time visiting this park and already fell in love with it. Great place to see foliage on Long Island. The trails are clearly marked and so well maintained. Well I love anything nature. This park is pretty. Lots of trails and a park for kids and dogs! The dog park has a section for small dogs and large dogs separately. There's a sign that says enter at your own risk. There isn't a fee right now to enter the park. You can rent canoes to row if you like. I saw a few people fishing for fun. When I come here I hike and enjoy my time with mother nature. Take a few pics. As you see spring is in the air. It will be even more beautiful once all the foliage has filled in. My sister & I recently walked the white & blue trails. totaling about 6 miles, in a bit over 2 hours. The bluest of blue skies, changing leaves of Fall & puffy white clouds reflected in the lake, affording us great scenery & good photo opportunities. We passed by some of the historic structures in the park, some cute "still lifes" that other hikers had created alongside the trail, saw swans, ducks & chipmunks, crazy colored mushrooms, rare black walnuts & a horseback rider or two. Trails are just wide enough to not be overly concerned about ticks, (but do watch out for horse droppings,) are well maintained & well marked. Boats & canoes can be used here, Parking is easy &, because we came off season, it was free. On the weekday that we were here, there were not a lot of fellow hikers, so it was nice to have the trails to ourselves. read more

Blydenburgh is a stunning nature preserve. I am an avid hiker, but I frequent Blydenburgh Park the most. I've gone there ever since the pandemic, and I have never seen another park like this on Long Island. It's a beautiful place, in summer and spring it's like an enchanted forest, in autumn it's a beautiful fall leaf walk, and in winter it's a wonderful winter wonderland. It's also a wonderful important place because of the lack of green space on Long Island, meaning supporting this place is supporting the conservation of these environments! As for activities, there's a wide range of things to do including camping, boating, fishing, horseback riding, and picnicking! It also has a dog park, and plenty of dog-friendly trails, which is great for any furry friends. Highly recommended for hikers, campers, kayakers, dog owners, and anyone who loves nature. read more

Visit Date: Unsure I don't remember when I came here it was shortly before I went away to Vermont and I came for a hike. I ended up doing the whole 6 mile loop around the lake. Normally when I'm hiking in the morning I'm in a rush to try to get back home so I don't go for a whole loop unless it's small but the loop I started was around a lake and by the time I turned back I would have been about 4 miles so I figured why not loop around the whole lake. Everything was so pretty and when I neared the end of the trail I saw a lovely pink house. I'm not sure if anyone lives there or if it's a horseback trail riding office or if it's just empty but it was so pretty and surreal to almost come out of the end of the trail and see it there. I had a confusing time finding the trail when I entered the park. I actually had to go through some wooded bushes before I saw the point where I started the trail. I'd be back here again I saw some people running the trail and while I do run trails as well as do road running I'm not sure I'd run on this one but hiking was fun. read more

This is a good trail for most adults except senior citizens. As a warning, the trail from one parking lot at the visitor center with the Park Historic District to the other lot in the dog park areas is about 6.1 miles or more. Everyone we spoke with along the trail including park rangers guided us incorrectly to the point that we were stuck at the security point and told to walk back into the woods for 20 minutes to get to our car at the original lot. Out car's GPS system listed Blydenburgh County Park, but it was actually Blydenburgh Park Historic District. As a result, even our Uber driver couldn't pick us up without going to the Stonebridge Country Club and driving us in circles until we figured out the actual name of the place on Google Maps. All of this could've been avoided had the two park rangers that we asked provided us the correct directions instead of sending us on a wild goose chase that wouldn't taken another 40 minutes of walking near sunset for an 80-year old and 69-year old. I'll never take anyone back to this park because I can't trust the people to save us from getting stuck again! read more

Blydenburgh is a beautiful park that you wouldn't think was possible to exist right off the main drag of 347 in the Smithtown/Hauppauge area. It's part of the Green Belt trail system which I'm not too familiar with other than Long Island has a few trails that are part of the Green Belt. Yes, very helpful, I know! They do charge for parking during peak seasons, however they are not charging now and won't be until spring I think. Then it's either $8 or $10 to get in. Blydenburgh isn't part of the New York parks system so if you have the Empire Pass you can't get in here with it, they use a separate county pass for Suffolk residents. There is something also with a green key but I think that's more for camping. You can read more about that on their website because I don't want to give you the wrong information. The trail is a little under 6 miles, I believe it's about 5.5. It can be a bit confusing as there are a few trails you can take. But follow the blue squares and you'll be just fine. Horses are allowed on certain parts of the trail, so watch out for poo! If you're a runner this is a beautiful and scenic run, and perfect if you're training for a 10k. I've run it a few times and it's lovely to do. However, since I've been slacking, this weekend it was walked. I'll be able to do it again soon! A little less than halfway through you will find some wooden stairs that will lead to a bench, and a bit further up picnic benches if you want to lunch/snack. There is also a house that gives tours once per day (1PM). However, there are also private residences in the park, so make sure you go to the right house! It'll be the one after you climb up the stairs. Then if you want to hit the trail again, you have to come back down the stairs and the trail continues. This park is also dog friendly and you'll see the pups swimming in the lake to cool off, and it's a great place to bring a dog in general. Also, it's phenomenal if you're a photographer/artist. I have taken some stunning photos here, and would love to come back to sit and draw in the future. One of my photos was even published in the SIerra Club newsletter this winter! (came here as part of the Sierra Club on a hike last December) Seriously check this place out. If you don't live around the corner - I promise it's worth the drive. If you take your time and enjoy the walk, stopping here and there, it's about three hours. Get back to nature and find your zen. read more

No charge at this Suffolk County park during the off season. Large dog park area. There's also a separate section for smaller dogs. My 12lb. beast loved running around and having fun! They have a water fountain and plenty of water dishes around for the dogs. During the open season there are bathrooms scattered throughout the park that are open. A Suffolk County park located on the south side of Stump (Mill) Pond, which separates Blydenburgh from Caleb Smith State Park, which is on the northern side. There's waterfoul on the shores, seasonal boat rentals. The park is 627 acres, has camping (currently closed due to West Nile Virus scare). You need a green-key card, and it's usually $14 a night, but I often have got free accommodations as nobody was in the pavilion when I was checking in or out. . . on a thursday in late-fall, you likely will be the only one there. Trails good for hiking & horses; I've seen a few mountainbikers coming by too, but the trails and trees are peaceful and you feel watched over contently by the dog spirit guardians of this ground: The blue trail, on the east side of the pond, features two separate pictoral memorials to parkgoers' deceased canine companions, laminated and posted on the trees. . . local intrigue: 1. Duke, a german shepherd, who loved this park and lived from 1993-2001. His owner misses him and Duke is always in his heart. 2. Cokie, a big-ole lab born in 1995: The gentlest soul ever known; her last walk ended in the trail on a sunny afternoon in January 2006. I will post pictures next time I go there. Very sad memorials, as our animal friends sometimes have to leave before we're ready. read more

In my opinion the best hiking trail on Long Island. The park has so many things to offer its amazing! There is a boardwalk section, deep woods, waterfront loops to stop and get some beautiful views, a historic homestead with a nice wooden observation deck that is perfect for having a little picnic or taking a hiking break. The park is about a 7 mile hike depending on the trails you take so it is more than a great workout. The trails are very steep and not your average roundabout. On the pond you will see swans, herons and several other birds. There are also several deer in the area and they jump right out into the trail. Absolutely beautiful. The trails are long and wasn't too crowded. Everyone was very nice. It was very peaceful in the fall. read more

I used to love taking my dog to the huge dog run that they have. It's not your typical dog run where there is only a gated fence in a small area. Part of the run is wooded and is large enough to play catch. There are benches as well and running water to give to your tired pup. Finally there is a small dog run for your poodle. Hiked Stump Pond Loop at Blydenburgh Park on Wednesday afternoon. A large county park, with a wonderful dog-friendly hiking trail that circles the large pond at the center of the space. Quality: When looking for a place to go hiking with our dog, two things stood out about Stump Pond Loop at Blydenburgh Park. The unique trails and no complaints about ticks. And for the most part the trail and the park lived up to the billing. There are zones where the trail can get tedious and boring, but there is enough change in elevation, planks through swamp areas, and beautiful water views to keep you invested for the full 6 mile trek. And the fact that the park also has a huge dog run, picnic areas, and camping zones, are just bonuses. Quantity: Plenty to do on this 600 acre park. Value: $15 entrance fee was listed on the sign, but we were waved in for free. Ambiance: Blydenburgh Park is located in Smithtown, Long Island. It was about an hour drive from Queens. The park definitely springs up on you, as we nearly drove past, but you are quickly enveloped by the forest. The centerpiece of the park is the large pond, where folks were kayaking and fishing. And they have a trail, which is actually several trails that does a good job following the outline of the water. It is a quiet and not heavily trafficked route, and pretty easy despite its length. And when finished, there is plenty of park space to sprawl out and relax. Crowd: Not very crowded during the week. We did the entire hiking loop and only saw a few groups along the way. And there were almost as many dogs as people. Service: Clean, well-maintained park. The trails are in good shape with clear markers throughout, and the staff at the entrance are extremely friendly. This park has several beautiful trails around a huge lake. It's great for people of all ages. It is well maintained and very calming. Not only are the trails beautiful but there's also a lot of history. On this trail you will see puppies (yay), children, families, couples, horses, and tons of nature. First time at this park and decided to do the 6 mile trail. Took around 3 hours for us to find the actual trail lol. And another 2-1/2 hr to walk it. Awesome views, beautiful day, friendly people all around. Brought our small dog and she is exhausted after walking so long. Good hiking experience for novice. The wolf trail lead us to the dock. The fox trail is the actual 6mile walk. If you are lost at which way to go during the trail then follow the green/blue marking on the tree trunks. It even points to the correct direction sometimes. This is a nice park, big and peaceful. There's a big lake where you can rent rowboats and enjoy the serenity too. Lately I've been going there for the use of their Dog Run/Dog Park. This is pretty much just 2 big enclosures (one for small dogs and one for large) where you let your pooch go and have leash-free fun. There's plenty of open space for the little guys to run around and play and a nice wooded area towards the side for them if they'd rather sniff and explore. Plenty of toys laying around like old tennis balls, frisbees, etc. There's generally a few dogs running around and playing, and on the weekend it gets a bit crowded from what I hear. I've only been there on weekdays...before dusk since that's when the park closes. Bring a water bowl and fill it using the water pump located inside the enclosure and be sure to clean up your dog's mess if he lets loose...if you know what I mean. There are plenty of garbage cans, baggie stations and scoops; so there's no excuse to leave any unwanted presents laying around. There's a fee on the weekend to get in, but on weekdays you just cruise right on in. read more

Blydenburgh is a huge county park with a large lake, miles of sandy hiking trails, camping sites and an enormous dog run. The dog run is awesome. It has gotta be a couple acres and includes both an open area and a wooded area. It also has running water which is so convenient. A lovely, long tree-lined road leads into Blydenburgh park. At the end of this main entrance road lies a large parking lot and the largest dog run I've ever seen. It's nothing less than canine heaven. This park connects to Bill Richards Memorial park too. It's kind of hard to review one without the other. Only the long road separates the two and on that very road a large fox skittered across. The trails are somewhat of a mess post hurricane Sandy but doable as several others in there realized as well. The trails were technically closed but unless you have small children, handicapped or elderly, it's fine. You can rent boats and get on the water here as well. read more

Awesome trails that are fairly well kept. The full loop is right around 6.5 miles and can be done in 2 hours if walking at a good place. Lots of photographers especially in the fall, you forget very quickly you're on long island. BEWARE of the dog park. Some people bring highly aggressive dogs into the park. I've seen a few fights. Some idiot told me about how his dog punctured another dog's coat and he was in the middle of a lawsuit, German Shepherd. Another guy walks a giant 90lb pitbull with no leash that will beat the hell out of 50% of the dogs it comes across, I've seen it first hand. I love the beauty of this place, not many places on the Island like it. Your best bet is to stay out of the dog park and take your pup to the trails instead. read more

I never came to Blydenburgh before this past Monday and I am so glad I discovered it! We walked around the huge lake and everything was so nice, despite it being extremely cold outside.
