We took a wonderful hike just over 2 miles round trip with the pup. There are high bush blueberry/huckleberry trees lining the trails and they are in season. Our pup loved splashing in the water and since it was low tide, the water was shallow for quite some way out. There are no trash cans and unfortunately some people threw their water bottles on the ground, but over all it's a clean, sandy hike with bathrooms and extra parking across the street. What a beautiful and easy hike/walk here at Terrell River county park. I was lucky to hit it at a good time, i.e., it was low tide and we were able to walk and have water on both sides of us. We are also happy to see that our dog was allowed. We weren't quite sure. If you're looking for a lovely hike to do with young kids and your leashed dog, I highly recommend. 5 stars for what a "hike" is on Long Island. It's really a walk in the park. When you first enter, it looks like you should go straight. Go hard left and you'll stay on the whole loop. Spray your body with bug and tick spray. Ticks are plenty on this loop. A little over a mile in you'll come to the great South Bay. There is a small little beach there. If you bring a blanket and lunch, you'll enjoy a great private view. It's totally flat and very easy. The whole loop is 2.7 miles. read more

Oh look, another tick. As you travel down Montauk highway in Moriches you come across the neat little gem of a walking park. There is ample parking but on nice days the lot does fill and people park on the road. It is very popular for dog walkers and most adhere to the rules about picking up after. The walking trail is well groomed and is not intense or strenuous at all. At the southern end there is an opening to the bay beach where you can find several different species of birds including plovers, terns, gulls and ospreys. It is worth walking on the sand to observe our avian friends. The woods are neat as well. There are several different species of mushroom and terrestrial critters to observe. There also are a few artesian wells that continually pour water which if you wait by during quiet times, you can see several different species of wildlife come down to drink. In all a pleasant loop walk. Keep a lookout for the swing and the benches that provide several great photo opportunities. Now let's get to what you have to watch out for. After a wet day or on a calm, windless day, the mosquitos are out in force and unfortunately make you walk faster so they don't drain you dry. You will see people walking with bug hats on during certain times of year. Also the ticks! There are plenty of them especially with the deer always crossing the hiking trail. So come prepared with long pants, tick repellent and a lint roller so you can roll them off. With a little precaution, a camera and a bit of wanderlust you can have a great time. read more

Nice area to walk. Just look for the roots so you don't trip. It's probably easier to navigate without the leaves on the ground. There is parking for about 20 vehicles. The Havens house was moved across the street near Kalers Pond Park. read more

One of the best spots to go for a walk+chat on a bright fall or winter day(mainly to avoid ticks). The trail is not too long and is intuitive to follow. It probably takes a little over an hour to complete at a casual pace. However, mid-loop, the trail opens to a sliver of beach with a gorgeous view of the bay- so you may want to take some time and soak it all in. Just keep your eyes peeled for some uneven ground at certain points. There are tree roots and things sticking up that could potentially cause you to lose your balance or twist an ankle. read more

Ok but not particularly nice park in Center Moriches that stretches from Montauk Hwy down to the bay. The trails are not that well marked and there are a few forks on them so may want to leave yourself a trail of bread crumbs to get back to your car. Part of the trail are narrow and have thorny shrubs on each side. Plus, there are a lot of exposed tree roots so watch out. I tripped a couple times. Not exactly looking forward to coming back any time soon but adequate for a hike if you're careful. read more

Huge wooded park and beach in Center Moriches. The beach is over 1 1/4 miles down the trail so if you show up with your beach towels and cooler expect to huff it for a good twenty minutes. There are beautiful views of the Terrell River and its marshes to check out. This is one of the few public parks that welcomes dogs on a leash. It gets really popular in the summer. There are NO facilities, running water or even garbage cans, it is a carry-in, carry-out park. Come and enjoy. read more

Formerly Havens Estate (at least to the people I know), this is now (as of at least 2007 it seems) Suffolk County land that meanders along Terrell River and ends @ Moriches Bay. Unfortunately, since this change, it's now overrun by people who never stepped foot inside (or across the street) before the sign and parking lot. Much preferred it back when we used this as a practice XC course, but it still ain't too shabby for a peaceful walk at any time of year, read more

Hands down my favorite place to walk. The trail is a big loop if you choose. My preference is to start off going left on the trail where you get much more scenic views; especially as you start hitting the area around Moriches Bay. The trail meanders through the woods about 1.5 miles and then you hit the bay. Prepare to be in awe of beauty. There's a stretch of sand that resembles a beach. You can walk about a quarter mile to the left and the sand gets wider and you get an expansive view of the bay. It's really spectacular. On the way back you can take the more direct, straight path back or you can go the way you came. The parking lot can get crowded on nice days but don't let that deter you- across the street is Kalers pond which is equipped with a nice parking lot; park there!!!! read more

BEWARE OF TICKS!!! The following day my boyfriend had one on his leg luckily it hadn't fed and just 4 days later one on myself and it has fed! I was completely covered up so I do not recommend this place during nice spring/summer months when critters are out but it is a very nice place to walk read more

I do enjoy this park, but I do think there are other nicer parks in the area and it could be that the time I went (late spring/early summer) factored into my experience. When I arrived around 8:30 in the morning there were a handful of cars. If you get there in the afternoon, be prepared to not find any parking (this was the reason why I had to turn back the first time I tried to go to the park). As another reviewer had said, it is a carry-in, carry-out park. During my hike it got increasingly buggy, and I was warned the same by another hiker coming back from the shore. It is a nice reward to get to the beach after the mile or so walk, but when I walked the beach I ended up seeing a dead raccoon, that seemed like it was decomposing for a while. I do understand that thus is the reality of nature, but I couldn't get past that animal because of all the flies surrounding it and therefore had to cut my visit a bit short. Hopefully the town was able to take care of it, because I could imagine that smell would have become unbearable soon enough. It can get quite humid in the summer months. The view is pleasant and peaceful for the most part, and I would probably return because it is so close by, but it is just an okay park. read more
