On the day he was supposed to come for estimate, he messaged me maybe 30 minutes before saying he would be maybe an hour late. I asked him if he could replace a corner brick for my ground patio, and touch up grouting around the bricks. I know nothing of concrete and bricks, that's why I needed someone. He said he was going to come Monday 09/23. He got the work done, and I tipped him roughly 13% on top of the estimate he game me. Two days later the one corner brick he replaced was good, but 3 nearby bricks cracked in half. That one stretch of grouting I wanted touched up was fixed, but new cracks formed as a result of the work completed. I messaged him 09/25 saying roughly more damage has been done than his work was supposed to fix. He asked if he could come Saturday 09/28. I said sure. It was beautiful day I would have preferred to goto the beach or something. I waited all day and afternoon and sent him messages. I didn't get a message until that evening that he wasn't going to come. Maybe he went to the beach for me! He asked if he could come Monday 09/30. I said sure, just park and do what you need. He never came just asked me what the weather was. So I took a screenshot of the weather for the next 10 days and sent to him 09/30 in the evening, then asked him on 10/03 when he would like to come. I hired this company to repair my chimney. While they did complete the work, the job was poorly done--I continued to experience water leaks through damaged bricks. I reached out multiple times to have the issue addressed, and although they promised to return on several occasions, they never showed up. They have since stopped responding entirely. Unfortunately, I'm back to where I started, out the money I paid, and with the problem unresolved. I strongly advise against using this company. read more

I hired BMA construction for getting new stamped concrete patio done and renovate front porch and pathway with stamped concrete. Byron Mayen, the owner of the company was very responsive from the day one, cooperative and flexible to absorb last minute changes like - (1) 4 ft expansion of patio (2) add a stone wall with solar lights mounted (3) add led lights plus mount 2 power outlet on each wall corner. (4) last day, I did not like 3 ft wall corner vs 6 ft on other side, so requested him to extend it to 6ft as well. Byron was nice to make extra trip to store and charged reasonably instead of penalizing me. (5) the solar lamp was changed to electric lamp for which he had to run additional wire which again was difficult to hide under wall cap but he still finished it really well. The front porch was supposed to have stone face and a stone step. I dropped the idea because stone is very costly. Again, he did not complain and rather made me happy by fixing small imperfections, I much later discovered on porch and pathway. As per him, imperfections can happen during stamping process. He took his time to come to stone store for the selection of color, something nobody does that. The stone was not available later and he took extra pain to find it available in other store plus visited store with me so that I can make stone selection for front porch step. The scope of work for my home included repair to my concrete steps (front entry), repair to falling tiles on the border edge of my front porch, cutting out and replacing a cracked slab of concrete on my rear balcony and cutting out and reinstalling a portion of my garage flooring which was in the early stages of disrepair. Byron arrived to provide a quote for each of the projects. I was pleased with the pricing but what set me most at ease was his thoughtful and comprehensive approach to making the repairs. I had connected with two other contractors and neither took such a detailed and long-term approach to the issues I had. Theirs were more "patchwork" fixes which would have cost as much or more than the BMA Construction quote. A few short weeks following the initial quote, the team arrived to begin work. They arrived on time every day, worked diligently, kept me apprised of any questions or issues that presented themselves during the job. Three days later, the job was complete and all work areas had been cleaned. I found Byron to be professional and very responsive to text or calls on the few occasions that I needed to contact him. First-time hiring of BMA. Job - replace front entry concrete stoop and connected sidewalk Pluses: Maryland Home Improvement Commission (MHIC) license, past positive YELP reviews, on time for estimate, price, starting job on time (23 Apr), grass reseeding Areas for Improvement: 1. BMA Workmanship ... a. The completed stoop edge which does not connect to the sidewalk and touches the lawn was recessed compared to the stoop edge connected with the sidewalk ( I referred to the overall look as a 2-layer cake appearance); my conclusion was this look was apparently due to varied concrete-forms installed in advance of the cement pour; after calling, the BMA owner returned to inspect the stoop and had the recessed stoop edge adjusted 2-weeks later, by adding another layer of more cement over the new stoop material previously done; afterwards, one end of the newly added cement layering shows yellowing coloration spots, which was reported to the BMA owner; the BMA owner indicated he'd re-inspect by end of the week (15 May), but has not returned stating BMA is too busy and now repeatedly claims the staining is due to the nearby trees and bushes; upon my further inspection, I see now there is a "rust-like" spot that has appeared on the top surface of the stoop near one corner (I tried removing it with soap and water, but was unsuccessful). My old stoop which was over 30-years old showed no yellowing discoloration, before this new concrete stoop was done. b. The BMA worker was not careful and apparently marred (one long scratch) my painted storm door (done in fall 2020), perhaps, when he was next to the door using his demolition jack hammer to remove the stoop. Also, the bottom of the painted door trim (not the storm door) shows an imperfection. It is unclear to me if this is associated with the caulk that the BMA worker removed or is it a cement smear.left behind by the BMA worker. No correction has been made. c. The BMA owner was made aware of all quality issues reported. 2. BMA Owner Oversight Responsibility ... the job began on-time (8 am) with the BMA owner and one BMA worker present; the BMA owner left before 8:30 am and told me he would return around noon (he did not); I called the BMA owner three times in the afternoon to find out when he would return and start the cement pour; it finally began after 4 pm (Observation: after breaking up the existing stoop and sidewalk concrete, the BMA worker sat on my lawn and steps for at least 4-hours before the BMA owner returned); the job was completed before dark (Note: this job was scheduled weeks ago; at the conclusion of my job, I later learned from the BMA owner that he added more jobs to the same day as mine because other customers apparently insisted wanting to have their jobs done on the same day, 23 Apr.) I firmly believe that the BMA owner's oversight responsibility of my completed job could have been performed much better. 3. Overall score: 3-stars (could have been higher if above issues were not part of my first experience with BMA). (Note: the BMA owner originally requested a deposit from me equal to 57% of the total price, until I informed him and confirmed with MHIC that MHIC only allows an MHIC-licensed contractor to receive up to a 1/3 deposit for the total price. The BMA owner then agreed on a smaller deposit in compliance with MHIC requirements.) read more

They did an excellent job redoing my back patio - they made some wonderful design suggestions, and were extremely adaptable and reasonable when the project required them to build an entirely new wall that was poorly built prior. They explained each step of what they were doing so I knew the workmanship was solid, that it was done well, and that it was not rushed or done in a shoddy way (as is always the fear). The patio looks great and was a major upgrade. They do a wonderful job and though I tend to hover, it was unnecessary as they are clearly experts. These guys were fantastic! Cannot say enough great things about them. They went above and beyond with their attention to detail, to include being on time, cleaning everything up when they were done, which included re-planting bushes that had been dug up to pour the pad and filling in holes from where dirt was removed. They also checked back multiple times throughout the project to make sure the project was going correctly and regularly called us or texted us to make decisions and provide options as they went.
