I was visiting my girlfriend in NorCal and asked her if we could go for a horseback ride. She booked the ride at Boarding on the Lake in Granite Bay. When the day came and we arrived we were greeted by Marina and other staff members. They were all so nice. Marina asked each one of us that was going on the trail ride what our experience on a horse was. She paired us up with the best horse for our experience. We had an awesome ride by the lake with beautiful scenery and Marina even took pictures of us along the way and shared them with us after. We had came from far away to do another horse riding lesson with two kids that have already done lessons. When we first got on the horse the instructor was already screaming and staring at the kids with such a rude attitude.We started the trail and she was not patient with us at all, with even more screaming and made our experience so stressful.One of the kids was having a hard time and started to cry and instead of helping she kept screaming and telling him to go. There was also another person with us on the trail and I heard the instructor make comments! This was not a good experience and especially for the kids that were so excited. They are not patient at all and really need to work on their attitude and way of speaking to kids! Thank you for responding, I already knew this was a trail ride and the kids had more than 5 rides already.There is still no need to be shouting and being extra mean since the beginning even before the ride, it does not make it enjoyable and It does not qualify someone for this job. I will not recommend this place to anyone. read more

It was so beautiful, so much fun the horses were so beautiful you can tell everyone takes good care of the horses. Marina was very attentive explained the process well made the whole experience wonderful and she took plenty of pictures thought out the ride and airdropped them after. What an amazing experience! Couldn't have asked for better weather or a better guide. Mariana (I hope I got her name right and apologize if I didn't) was an awesome guide. She knew all the horses personally and could read them like a book. She also took pictures of us along the way and air dropped them to us at the end of our trip which was a huge plus. The place was easy to find, plenty of parking, and the instructions for riding you receive ahead of time (as long as you follow them) are perfect. I do recommend a hat or sunscreen. The trail ride is beautiful, the lake even more so. This experience was an anniversary gift to my wife because she loves horses and grew up with them and this was the perfect gift. I rode on Hercules and my wife on Rango, the cute inseparable duo. Hercules had me laughing throughout the ride and definitely has a mind of his own and a stomach as much as I tried to keep him from snacking along the way. I highly recommend the trail ride, we had a blast and will definitely be doing it again in the future. Cheers! read more

My daughter and I had a great trail ride with Marina. We felt very comfortable and safe on our sweet horses, Cola and Molly. Best trail ride around! Nothing beats riding through the trees and down to beautiful Folsom Lake! And it is 2 hours! Most places only offer an hour. My son who is an experienced equestrian loves this ride ( has been on it quite a few times) and this time we took a friend that had never been on a horse in his life and he loved it! I recommend this ride highly for anyone as the horse are gentle and the guides are amazing. read more

I want to start by saying our guide Marina was kind but it seems she could use more training because she seemed fearful, please consider natural horsemanship. We went on a ride with Marina today, and at one point after walking by the water, one of the horses named Hercules decided to roll. My fiancé got off and Marina grabbed the horse and pulled very hard on the reins and whipped him dramatically. Witnessing this was traumatizing and in my opinion completely unnecessary and tainted the experience. Rolling is a natural horse behavior and is an indication that the horse may be uncomfortable. Marina's horse appeared to have whip marks, indicating this is normal behavior. All the horses on the ride were very well behaved but she had told me at the start that my horse, Rango, would be difficult but I had no issue. However she still felt it necessary to tell me about a negative experience she had with Rango, saying at one point he bit her hard and she sustained an injury, which made me question why strangers were allowed to ride him? Rango has welts on either side of his neck, which after 10 years of experience with horses I have never seen before. It doesn't seem like they prioritize safety for horses or riders. The horses seemed skinny and dirty, and the barn looked like it needed more help with upkeep.. I also don't understand why they ask for a tip when the ride is already $100 each, it should be included, and after experiencing that we definitely were not going to tip. I would not recommend this and I will not be doing it again. In these photos you can clearly see Rango's injuries, pictured on both sides of his neck, and from looking at past reviews he's lived with this for a while. please use our money to do better for these horses! read more

My daughter comes here for camp every summer. Don't be put off by the very low tech way to apply and pay for camp. They are INCREDIBLE. My kid hates to leave this camp and would go EVERY week if she could. They really teach them all the steps to caring for a horse and not just riding them. They get to go on trail rides on the beach. This place was really fun - the guide was really nice, and the ride was long enough to see lots of things. The only potential improvements I noted were... 1. Actually finding the place (Google Maps wasn't sure, and sent me on a journey to the other side of the lake), and when I finally arrived in the right spot, there wasn't anything assuring me of that fact. I was just kind of standing there hoping someone would help. 2. When you're done w the ride, there wasn't a place to wash your hands. The guide said we could wander around when we're done, but a sink or some kind of hose to rinse your hands would have been nice so I wouldn't have to wipe my hands on my jeans before getting back in the car. Overall it's a great deal, and once I figured out what was going on, it was really fun. But for a newbie, it started out kind of intimidating w no clear direction when I first got there. 4/5 tho, and would def recommend to a friend! read more

Who you get to ride with is RNG and if you have a lot of first time riders the ride is 100% walking with exception of one of the riders trotting for a few seconds to catch up. Beautiful horses + fun guide+ beautiful trail= great! I booked a ride for noon on Sunday in April for my husband's 52nd birthday, and it was ideal. We are all basically beginners, so our guide Marina gave us a bit of guidance before we left. I walk at Folsom Lake State recreation area all of the time but I had never been all over the trails and with everything in bloom and so green after the rain -- it was like I was enjoying a beautiful new place. There is the occasional mountain bike or people with dogs which I thought might be a problem but the horses were very calm about them and so it was not an issue. Our guide mentioned that the horses are trained specifically for the shared trail experience. Marina also took photos of our family at different points which I am thrilled to have and was not expecting. The trail has so much variety, down by the water, up high with great views and through the woods. So much more interesting than the typical trail ride. My husband said it was one of his favorite birthday presents ever! We all had fun-- wonderful way to spend the afternoon. read more

A pleasant surprise! i booked this tour based on the online reviews - they did not lie. I have never been on a horse, but my friend has. This excursion was a birthday surprise for her, but I ending up having a blast too! Marina was amazing! Her tutorial had me feeling like I had been riding for years. Both my experienced friend and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. The views were amazing and the horses were well behaved and relatively easy to manage. Marina (our friendly guide) explained what to do throughout the trip and even stopped along the tour to take pictures of us.
