Great barber shop/salon for men located in the heart of Avalon in Alpharetta!! I have been coming here for the last few months and getting great service!!! While they take walk-in customers, they also have monthly plans where for one flat monthly fee haircuts are free and all additional services are 30% off inclusive of the product. After many times of getting my and my boys hair cut at the discount line em up and rush em through type places I finally had enough of haircuts that frankly just didn't cut it any more! Whether it was cutting the fade up way too high, putting the hard part in crooked on my sons head, or just flat out butchering my sons hair... enough was enough. I wanted to upgrade our experience and quality. So I searched on Yelp and found the Boardroom in the Avalon area. The reviews were good... the promise of quality enticing and the services alluring. So I booked my youngest and I an appt. The location doesn't have TVs at every station, the place reminds me more of an exclusive old man's club then a hair salon, and I just wasn't sure what we were going to get. However the hairstylist was nice, she told me what she could do to get my hair back on track after many terrible cuts, and then she did it. I mean she did exactly what it was she said she was going to do and my hair cut, even with dealing with the mess that it was, was one of the best I have ever had! I was proud of my cut and I know it is only going to get better as the bad parts grow out and she can cut it right. After she did mine she did the same for my son. I didn't realize how bad of a cut we had been getting until we got a good cut! They do the hot towels, give a face massage with the wash, an arm message, and a paraffin wax treatment for your hands to. It is like pamper city. When everything was done not only did she style my hair she showed me how to do both my and my sons as well. It didn't take forever... about 45 mins each, but it was time well spent for sure. The cost is not cheap... it is more then twice of the other places but I'm telling you it was worth it! They do offer membership options with an upfront fee that then offers all the haircuts you want. (It is a pretty good upfront fee but in the end it does work out in your favor if you cut your hair as often as I do... I did the math) I liked the cut so much I brought my oldest son here the following weekend. We have found our new hairstylist! We will be back for sure! read more

Took my husband here to have his haircut for our wedding anniversary since we dinner reservation later that night. We paid for the hair consultation and hair cut. The first thing the stylist asked my husband was what size clips he use on the side a 3 or a 4. How is that a consultation? And when he was finish getting his hair cut. The back was awful and the sideburn did not get trim. This is a joke and the worst service we ever had. Instead of enjoying our anniversary we have to go look for another barber shop to fix my husband hair. What a waste of money and we will never come back here. read more

Dis-a-ppoint-ment!! First let me start off by saying this was a Father's Day gift for my partner. We were so excited for him to get groomed here; based off the reviews and aesthetic. What we got was an overpriced SuperCuts. From what the inside (super upscale) of the salon looks like I was expecting an updated, "old timey", salon with a more matured man who has the experience cutting hair with the straight razor. That is NOT what we got. There was not one man in sight. All of the stylists & barbers were women. (As a woman, I do believe women can do what men do so do not take this comment as me being a masculinist) Men know how to cut men's beards. The woman who cut my partners hair and beard in this salon was a stylists and, unfortunately, not a barber. My partner asked her to cut 3 inches off of his hair, she cut maybe 1.5, rushed through washing his hair, and did not like his beard accurately. So much so he came home and re-lined his beard himself. Overall, he was not happy with his experience and I am not happy that he did not enjoy his experience especially because it cost $100+. If you're looking for an upscale shop, this is not it. read more

I decided to give Boardroom Salon for Men a try. They had a 50% discount on Facebook that was rather enticing. The decor and environment was very nice. I wish I could say the same about the barber. I arrived and got seated around my appointment time. I gave the usual instructions that I've given to quite a few different stylists over the years. These instructions have never confused any stylist. These instructions have never been... argued with, but alas here we are. My stylist, who certainly loved to mention that she's been in the industry for 20+ years, has a different definition for "faux hawk" than I do. She did a Google Image search and showed me her definition of a faux hawk. I pointed to a different image result and told her that's how I sometimes style my hair. She said "no, that's not a faux hawk." I said "okay, that's fine, I'm just saying what I do." She says "Okay if you think you know better than somebody who's worked 20+ years in the industry." Has this conversation gotten surreal yet? Let's keep going. Me: "Look, we really don't need to argue over terms. I'm sure you're right. I'm just telling you how I sometimes do my hair." Stylist: "Okay fine if that's what you want then I'll do that for you!!" There's been times in the past where I've just decided to deal with that BS. This was not a day I cared to do that. I walked out immediately after that last line. What a bizarrely silly attitude. I give one star back to Boardroom because of the genuinely nice manager who reached out to me immediately about the stupid BS that had transpired. I could certainly return and give this place another chance later, but I went to Roosters Men's Grooming Center on Medlock. I gave the exact same directions to the stylist, got a great cut, and here's a shocker: no arguments over silly definitions. Btw: do a Google Image search for faux hawk. The top results all look similar and exactly what I was referencing. But, I'm sure that's just a coincidence and not because that's what most people think a faux hawk is. read more

NOT FOR BEARDS! I will say the staff is super nice. They looked like they were great at normal haircuts, but I wouldn't know because I'm bald. I went there for a beard trim- and she WRECKED my beard. I was very specific with my instructions- asked for ducktail style- she said she was familiar. I explained everything- showed her 2 different pictures- specifically asked her not to take too much length off, to just clean it up. Not happy to look like this, especially for the holidays. I know it will grow back- it just takes 6-8 months- so it makes me feel super bummed. The stylist that "trimmed" my husband's beard earlier today buzzed his beard off underneath his entire chin, leaving a huge bald spot; He only discovered this when he was able to look in the mirror once he came home (he said she faced him away from the mirror the entire time he was there). Not only did she butcher his beard, she was disrespectful enough to not even tell him she had messed up, letting him pay for the service and walk out. Now my husband has had to shave his beard off completely, since he did not want to have a beard with a bald line in the middle, running from his neck up to his chin. Overpriced. The elapsed time from start of the cut to finish was 15 minutes. The cut was ok, but nothing special. They were on time and very efficient, but to be fair, my neighborhood barber washes, styles (with product), provides a neck massage and neck shave for half of what Boardroom charges. This place is a joke. Just got a haircut - not only was it completely wrong - no fade - beard was cut to a 3+ when I asked for a blended 1. She started just cutting with a ton of gel in my hair. Then the front desk person was sleeping in their car. The giftcard I had didn't work and attempted to blame me. This place will not survive. I repeat don't give them business if they can't value customers time and needs at these prices. I went in for a beard trim. I explained to the man doing the trim I didn't want to just use electric trimmers at home because I liked the length and simply wanted it cleaned up. He said he understood, sat me in the chair and just used electric trimmers (already cut a swath too short before I realized what he had done). So I had to let him finish the job, which was nothing more than I would have done at home except now it was far shorter than I wanted and a lot more expensive. Ok, let me preface this by saying I've never had a pedicure and have about one manicure per decade. I know now that I won't be back here next decade. I'm getting married this week and thought I would treat myself so that my nails looked good for the wedding and that my feet were in good shape. The technician was friendly and professional, but completely untrained and had only portions of the right tools for the job. She was hamstrung by the fact that she only had half an emery board and half of pretty much all of the disposable items she would need to perform a proper manicure and pedicure. This caused several problems... 1. She couldn't get a grip on the various items which meant that she dropped them from time to time. On the floor. Which I hope was cleaned since the last customer. 2. When she did get a good grip, the angle she was using wasn't correct because she had to adjust the angle of use against the nailbeds in order to maintain a good grip. This caused abrasions against the skin. 3. They relied on hot towels for the cuticle softener to work properly instead of heated mitts. The towel was cold within a minute so it didn't work properly. 4. You get the idea...but this is a dead giveaway to management wanting to pinch pennies. It caused an hour and fifteen minute appointment to last over 2 hours. She was not properly trained. She apologies profusely after nicking some skin and explained that her training was to follow an instruction sheet (which she was referencing) and watching youtube video instruction on her own time. I do not fault the nail tech for this - I fault management. Either train your nail techs, or hire a dedicated nail tech who is already trained. I have three toes that I'm afraid are going to get infected because of how poorly they were done (one was bleeding when I got home). When I got home, my fiance looked at my hands and feet and asked how much I paid. She was floored. She said that this was the worst manicure and pedicure she'd ever seen and it was obvious from looking at it. I gave a star to the tech - she was really great from a personality and professionalism standpoint and should not be at fault for anything that happened due to her lack of training and half-measures (literally) of supplies provided. Parking - use the Avalon parking garage and hope it's not full (hint - it usually is), or expect to walk a long way from one of the other garages. Atmosphere - I gave this another star. The rich wood on the walls and TVs on the wall were a great touch. But where's the pool table from the pictures? There were only like three employees there on the busiest part of a weekend day. One was manning the register and phones, the other was cutting hair. I just don't get it. Price - way overpriced compared to what you get. If I need a haircut, I'm going to Barker-Jackson in Canton to get one for like half the price and I guarantee it will be just as good if not better. Overall - just go somewhere else. This place is a joke for those who think that paying a lot of money means you get quality service. read more

I've been getting my hair cut at Sport Clips for 10+ years because I loved the fact that there was some pampering in addition to the hair cut, with the warm towel and scalp massage, and so when I heard about Boardroom, I was interested. I just got a new job, so I wanted to pamper myself and needed a haircut. Here's what I'll say about my experience getting the "Benchmark": The service and stylist- really good. Friendly, additional things felt great, and they weren't trying to rush me like it feels sometimes at salons. The haircut? Not that great. I've had better haircuts at Great Clips. I have a simple hair cut with razor and guards, and the cut I got isn't even, and there were lots of hairs I ended up having to cut myself at home. When I look at it in the rearview mirror, I'm mad I paid that much for the haircut. With a beard trim (that charged me $15 for less than 10 minutes), it was about $70 WITH A $15 COUPON.) Not worth it to me, but maybe it is some other folks. read more

I'm a little later than the staff deserves in delivering this review. What a great experience! This was my first time visiting a Boardroom and I enjoyed my time here thoroughly. The moment I walked in, I was greeting by smiling, friendly faces and offered a beverage. I was led to the back and introduced to Shelbi, who performed my Benchmark service with a beard trim added. Shelbi was nothing short of friendly, professional, meticulous and gentle during the course of the service. I occasionally suffer from social anxiety and she made me feel comfortable and relaxed the entire time. She nailed my haircut and beard trim, and a few weeks later it still looks great. The rest of the Benchmark service (hot towel, paraffin wax dip for the hands, face/scalp/hand massage) was all a new experience to me and extremely relaxing. I give Shelbi another five stars and will definitely request her again on my next booking. I would also recommend Boardroom to any of my friends or colleagues, and have already. Small note - it's not the fault of Boardroom, but parking in the tower at Avalon SUCKS. It took me nearly 45 minutes to escape on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm on a pleasant, sunny day. Unfortunately ground level parking is 50% taken up by construction materials at this time. Be prepared. read more

I go online at 2:30 pm to book an appointment for 5:15 pm, for any first available stylist. I arrive a few minutes early and grab a seat. Another guy arrives looking for a walk in appointment. They tell him it will be around 5:30 for him. 5:35 pm arrives, no explanation as to why my stylist is running so late and then, you guessed it, the walk in guy gets attended to before me. I left, and won't be back. You can offer all the beverages you like and line the walls with wood paneling galore, but if you can't get something as basic as scheduling correct, then you're just disrespecting my time, are poorly managed (with a poorly trained staff), and won't get my business. read more

It consists of a good hair cut; paraffin hand dip; energizing shampoo; scalp, facial and hand massages; steamed towel (wonderful!) and cleansing rinse of face and arms. Friend of mine gave me a coupon for free introductory haircut at Boardroom several weeks ago. I went back again this past Thursday night. I have been to other high end men's salons but I like this one best. Shelly listened to how I like to wear my hair (what's left of it) and gave me a great haircut. She was very professional and engaging but not overly so -- allowed me to talk but also relax. And no inappropriate talk --- for some reason in other high end men's salons the stylists assume you're into dirty jokes and sexual innuendo but none of that here and I really appreciated it. I'm not a prude -- I just don't want to hear that stuff when I came for a haircut. But as good as the haircut is, it is the experience here that makes the difference. The products are realty good and they know how to pamper men (not the same as pampering women LOL). Very relaxing and top notch in every way. You'll pay extra to go here -- as others have noted -- but you get your money's worth. I'll be going back again soon! read more

I always get phenomenal service at the Avalon location. I bought the yearly plan, and it is definitely worth it for how many haircuts I get in a year. It turns out to be far less than if you go here and pay for a single haircut. It's actually less than if I went to one of the chain stores 3 times a month. Well, this was a very underwhelming experience. I initially booked the cut which entailed a cut, shampoo and conditioning, and styling. It was $45. I arrived at the salon, got called back to one of the chairs, and I told my barber the cut I wanted. Somehow I was sort of talked out of the cut and she cut my hair the way she thought I would like it. I kept saying shorter but it didn't really get through to her. I showed her a photo at the beginning before the haircut to show what I wanted. She advised me to do certain things based on my head shape, *which I appreciated*. Anyhow, I got my haircut which I didn't love, but she seem to be in a hurry. I was supposed to get a shampoo and conditioning, BUT I didn't get that. I got a cut and a brush down (which I was left with so much hair on me). Honestly I was really let down as far as the whole experience goes. I most likely won't go back.... ever.
