Today, I have a hidden gem to tell you all about.
Ever desire a haircut and/or a shave? Maybe while you sip a refreshing, succulent boba tea, juice, or smoothie?
Look no further than Boba Cutz, located in South Salt Lake.
An unassuming location set just off State Street, this location is set in a strip mall containing a Mexican bakery, a massage parlor, and a restaurant. Having tried the Mexican bakery (Canela) just before my haircut, I can assure you the baked goods there are delicious too, and I will be writing about my experience there soon.
After getting my baked goods from Canela, I ventured over to Boba Cutz, and was greeted by the staff. Jack, one of the stylists there, had an opening right away, so I opted to get a haircut.
I sat in the barber's chair; a fancy contraption, rimmed with gold decoration and comfortable cushions. I gazed upon the ceiling, sprinkled with hexagonal LED lighting. The overall theme, a cool place to hang out and chat while you discover your new "you", complete with miniature golden basketball hoops and sleek silver walls.
We discussed the haircut I wanted, and off he went upon an agreement. As his scissors and buzzers flew and glided over my mess of my hair, I reflected on the kind of adventure it takes to get to where Jack was today. We exchanged friendly chatter, and other staff and guests also would chime in from time to time. Overall, Boba Cutz's vibe comes off as strong, bold, and assertive. "This is me," the location claims. "You see me, you come to me to chill with the best."
For me personally, the decoration came off a bit too bold. It lacked some accents that would have made it pop, and I felt a bit too cloistered with the dark colors, offset with glowing white neon. I understand, however, that many do like this style, and my opinion is just that; my own. It shouldn't influence yours at all.
Appearances notwithstanding, Jack did a great job on my hair; it's a style I've never worn before, and I think it suits me.
"Ah, but Brenden!" You say, "What about the boba!?"
Indeed, the boba. You receive one boba drink for free with your haircut; it can be anything on the drink menu. I got the cookies and cream boba smoothie with oat milk, and I found myself drinking it down super-quickly. It was tasty, refreshing, and perfect for a hot day.
I paid $42 for my haircut, and left satisfied, the staff wishing me a hearty farewell. To quote Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator...
I will be back. read more
