Asked not to come back due to my medical condition that I told Marcus about on my first hair cut which was 12/14/2022. After my last hair cut April 9th, I tried to book another last week for 05/16/24 and noticed I was unable to book appointments through Schedulicity. I reached out to Marcus by text to confirm the issue and he replied with a text message (image attached). Stating two reasons, one that I move my head too much (a medical condition I have) and also apparently ask him if a Spanish speaking country speaks Portuguese every single hair cut (completely false). He also stated that I am not welcomed back to the shop entirely. "need to find a new barbershop". I have a medical condition that causes me to move, restless body syndrome which can also cause tremors/twitches. It also makes it hard to hold my head still in the same position. Marcus isn't by all means the most friendly person I've talked to but he was initially professional with my condition and never complained and even if I was moving he would gently remind me to sit still. So now I am a bit embarrassed and if this was mentioned to me on any of the prior 13 hair cuts I would have gladly found someone else. There is a much better and professional way to tell someone rather than blocking them telling them to go somewhere else. Regarding the Portuguese comment, this has never happened as I know he is from Argentina and they speak Spanish. I consider myself to be well traveled and I do not speak an Portuguese, so asking this provides zero value to me as a traveler. So I'm not sure where this came from and if you're going to make up something to soften the discrimination of my medical condition, maybe think of something more realistic than to claim I asked you this 13 times over the last year and half. Especially since I found out he was from Argentina in June of 2023 when he mentioned he was going back to his home country for a trip in July 2023. I did speak to him about Argentina several times after he told me he was going there. This is mostly because I thought there was a connection regarding this and I have never been to Argentina, I plan to go there someday and it's on my list of countries I would like to move to. As I have also lived abroad twice already and make next destination for a move is South America. I'd like to learn more about the culture and politics in Argentina. Had I known this was off limits, which is my suspicion based on his Portuguese comments, I would have apologized and stopped immediately, this was never implied by Marcus. And unknowing his reason I did preemptively apologize in a text message which he did not respond to. I was not planning to write this review but after responding to Marcus by text and reminding him of my condition on 05/13/24, I expected an apology which I did not get. Also its unprofessional to ask clients to not mark services on Venmo transactions and I believe only Marcus does this. read more

Best shop in town. All the barbers are friendly and talented folks, especially Isaiah. He always does the most incredible job, and always makes me feel hot after a cut. Updated : After my review, the owner (Stefahn) contacted me directly. He was really disappointed that I was not completely happy with my haircut. He wanted to do whatever he could to make it right. Stefahn went ahead and set up another appointment for today. When I arrived, one of the other barbers extended a warm greeting and said that Stefahn would be right with me, and he was. After talking briefly, I showed Stefahn the pictures of the cut that I was going for. He asked a few questions and then went right to work. Wow, Stefahn is a Master Barber in my book. Not only did he correct the original cut, he provided a finish cut that exceeded my expectation! There is some great talent at this shop and it's evident that Stefahn cares about the customer and their satisfaction. I'll be back! -------------------------------------------- I really like this place. Seems like they have some talented barbers here. Prices are fair but not cheap. I picked a barber on line to make my appointment. Unfortunately, they don't have bios on each barber. In hindsight I should have called and asked for a recommendation. I was looking for a change and wanted to try short flat top with shaved and faded sides. Brought pictures with to show to the barber. He worked diligently for an hour and 20 minutes. Recently moved to SLC from Atlanta and have been having a hard time finding a good spot to get a good hair cut. I tried another place a couple of times but the second time they about hacked my head off and just did what they wanted, not paying attention to anything I said. I made an appointment with Stefahn after searching around and see that had some good reviews, shop looked decent enough and the few cuts I saw looked solid. I showed up a few minutes prior to my appointment time and was immediately greeted by Stefahn. He brought me right to my chair and asked what we're doing. I told him, I'm not sure! Kind of trying to do something different than what I normally do - instead of going really short I'm trying to go with a bit longer hair style. I explained what I thought I was looking for and my pain points from my previous experience and he jumped right into it. About midway through he turned me around and checked that we were moving in the right direction - looked great! A little bit of trimming and texturing on the top and I was all set. Once all was said and done, I was extremely happy with the new cut and I'll certainly be returning to Stefahn's in the future to have my hair taken care of. Just went to Stefahn's for the first time today and had my hair cut by Jacob. I am getting engagement pics taken tomorrow and needed a great cut... and the shop delivered! Fantastic cut! My expectations were exceeded. I also enjoyed that at Stefahn's they don't feel the need to be you know what bags like you find at many barber shops that are trying to be trendy. Just good people and a good atmosphere. I rarely trust people to cut my hair and I can honestly say I will be heading back to Stefahn's many more times in the future! To cut my hair super short or not to cut my hair super short, that was the question. Well at least it was until I saw a gentleman with such a fine cut that I was filled with envy. Cut my hair super short it was. I asked this man where he got his hair done up so nicely, and that's when he told me about Stefahn's Barbershop, it's quaint size, and friendly Barbers. A couple weeks later, I woke up on a Saturday feeling spontaneous, so I headed over to Stefahn's. As I swung their front door open, I started to panic. There were four manly men inked with SLC tattoos, and the air smelled of leather chairs and enough courage to fight off a bear. ...Oh wait, I hesitated, Do barbershops even cut women's hair? I had never been into a barbershop so I had no idea. However, I was kindly greeted, asked if I'd like to have a seat and anything to drink. It took only a few minutes for my doubts to disappear as I realized that these tough looking barbers were just teddy bears with tattoos. Stefahn sat me down in the first spinning chair closest to the window. He asked me what I was looking for, and I told him I wanted an extremely short cut. I basically told him to do with my hair what he would, while making me look as pretty as possible. He smiled with confidence and then with that he started snipping away. We talked a bit. Jokes were thrown about, and I was at ease feeling that I was amongst friends. Next thing I knew, a hot towel was resting on my face and melting away all of my worries. Afterwards, I was pretty stoked about my cut. I felt pretty damn tough and sexy all at the same time. I've been back to Stefahn's multiple times for cuts and touch ups...and for little weekend parties as well. They support local artists and businesses and help bring the community together as a whole. They're a pretty sweet piece of Salt Lake City that I'm glad to be a part of. P.S. Jacob is so hot. read more

I'll try to keep it short and sweet. After too many hours of barbershop research I decided on Stefahn's. I did not want a "classic" high & tight cut. I was able to book Stefahn himself, he listened to exactly what I wanted and gave me a fantastic cut. I typically use one of the express hair cut franchises so this was a luxurious experience. Stefahn was funny, welcoming, and kind. I believe another reason for their success is their clientele. It was very diverse for SLC. I imagine the different types of wants and needs keeps their barbers sharp. I will be going back in the next 4-6 weeks, 5 stars. read more

Dear Stef, I was hoping to e-mail you this feedback privately, but as someone who has no facebook or instagram, that wasn't an option. I have enjoyed my previous experiences of your shop, particularly the first time when I got my haircut from you personally. This time was different. It was a busy evening, and all the chairs were staffed by people I didn't recognise, except for Ernie, who did a good job for the second time, given that I'm not someone who gets a lot of haircuts or knows the lingo. My cut is too short & buzzed, but that's not why I'm writing. No beefs with you, Ernie--I have had long hair most of my life and don't know how to ask for what I want. The real reason is that I felt uncomfortable being there with my 8-year-old son, given the purple prose of one of the other barbers next to us. I needed a cut for a job interview next day, and also needed to have my guy with me. I was unprepared for how intimidated I felt to ask for my little guy to be spared the foul language, including some content (thankfully veiled only just enough) that I would rather not be introducing to an 8 year old (vis, classic animated features viewed under chemical influences). In adult company, I have no problem with this subject matter or even a bit of colourful vocabulary. My son was very uncomfortable though, and I didn't know what to do about it mid cut. I would like some assurance that all of your staff are aware and responsive when children are around before I come back. It would also have been nice for him to have a comfy chair to sit in not too far away (instead of standing and dancing around Ernie while he worked so he could hold my hand), since he's shy around strangers to begin with. ... On a different subject, I'm not sure what other people reviewing here think "diverse" means, unless around here it just means not Anglo Mormon men, may or may not have visible tatoos. Is it possible to get a cut in Spanish here, for example? Or what if your hair is tightly curled? I'm not sure I would feel comfortable as anyone who's not a straight white hipster dude under 35yo without children in tow. It was my first time trying out Stefahns Barber Shop today and I could not be more pleased with the service I received. Decided to just do a haircut as I am incapable of growing facial hair, and I was pleased with everything Stefahn did for me. I just recently started to actually care about what my hair looks like and Stefahn did a great job advising me on what some of my options were to styling it. I've never been to a barber shop where the environment was so chill and laid back. This definitely helped me to stop having to worry about what the final product would look and took the edge off of me trying out a new barbershop. The straight razor and hot towel were both new to me as well and I loved every second of it. Stefahns Barber Shop is definitely a hidden gem in the Salt Lake Area which I am lucky to have found. I have to say we won't be back. Make sure you check your email! My appointment with Jacob, which I had made 4 weeks ago was "cancelled" no warning. No call, no other form of communication. When I called to see what was going on, I found he "went on vacation". I made an appointment with someone else, was a bit late - but did call and was assured on the phone it was fine only to be turned away when my son and I arrived. They serve the most excellent coffee too and are generally in the know of the happenings in town if you want to get into something on the weekend. I'm from out of town, meaning this establishment has never cut my hair before. With some pictures of previous cuts, they were able to do an incredible job. The detail on the fade, blend and the combover came together great. It's rare to find barbers that master both the clippers for a smooth fade and the scissors for styling the top. The hot towel and straight razor finish sealed the deal. I highly recommend this barbershop. read more

I had three weeks of "use it or lose it vacation". I decided to take the time and see the upper mid and north west. I started in Michigan and two days in to the trip I received a call about a business meeting in Utah for the following week. Since I will be in the area I accepted the meeting. Now in Salt Lake City I am unshaven and in need of a hair cut after tent camping for a week. I booked a room at a hotel and found Stefahn's Barber Shop about a 25 min walk from my hotel. I sat down and was told the wait would be about 45 min, already had 25 min invested and said I would wait. While I was waiting I was offered a water, soda or beer. Awesome that they offered, no other place that I have been does that but I passed. After sitting for about 15 min one of the barbers states that a client did not show so he took me in. He did everything I asked and I was extremely satisfied with the cut, the service and the friendly staff. If I happen to move to this part of the country I will become a regular at this establishment. I highly recommend this place to all.. read more
