She has a "10 stars on a 5 star scale" bright shining persona. I absolutely and unequivocally recommend her services & food. Top Line: I had the privilege of an oxtail dinner with side salad prepared by Bobbi at a Father's Day Dinner she catered in Bernalillo. Her crew had the room decorated with simplistic elegance befitting the occasion. Tables settings were in line with that theme: white linen table cloth overlain with a smaller black one, white cloth napkins bound with white & gold bands, gold flatware wrapped inside, a couple large gold chargers at each table, drinks drawn into clear tapered plastic cups with gold band rims. The infused water & a lemonade in dispenser jars were delightful in their complexity. These were no "one note wonders". They were so good that a few return trips to the drinks & dessert table were necessitated. Salad was a medley of bold flavors dancing together. None overwhelming the others. Kalamata olives, fresh shaved parmesan cheese, & chiffonade fresh basil added their punch to the mix. Raspberry vinaigrette was very prominent on berry flavor & rather sweet. So tasty, you know I brought the extra home for later! Only downside was that, since this was a catered in dinner, the salad came in a plastic dish, albeit a heavy duty better than average quality dish, which detracted from the overall elegance of the setting. Braised oxtails were rich in flavor and super fall off the bone tender. Portion was generous. Gravy was good, but ran rather typical in flavor without herbs or diversity of spices for complexity. Body of gravy was fine, not pasty thick or watery thin. Rice was absolutely on the mark!! Just al dente enough to be substantial & ever so slightly chewy. Again, a generous portion on the rice, a layer of lovely carbs out of which rose the seastack of the oxtails. Dessert was a generous slice of chocolate caramel cake with a plentiful covering of frosting to appease the inner sugar fiend. The chocolate cake was dense, moist, and rich-rich-rich! Bobbi also gave me a scoop of her peach cobbler, another of the dessert options. While the cinnamon played its flavor place of prominence with distinct robustness, it was a mellow, balanced, and rounded performance. The cinnaflavor was not sharp or aggressive in its approach, nor overwhelming of the other spices in the mix. The peach chunks taste was somewhat muted under an overall quite sweet flavor. Cakelike crust layer added its own substantiality to the dish Portion sizes were likewise large on the to-go meals & separate oxtail portions I had ordered. After researching a number of personal chefs and private catering companies in Albuquerque, I stumbled upon Bobbi's Homestyle Catering on Instagram. I am based in Baltimore, MD; however, I was hosting a 4-day, 5-night retreat for a cohort of my students, so I needed to find someone who was responsive, flexible, and thorough. (And of course, I needed someone who could provide great food! That's the one thing that everyone remembers from any event, even years later.) I connected with Chef Bobbi via phone first, and she was pleasant and very easy to communicate with. I explained that I was looking for days' worth of catering services -- breakfast, lunch, and dinner -- and because I would be traveling for the retreat, I needed to have everything squared away in advance. I found Chef Bobbi to be very understanding, and she anticipated my needs and was ready with suggestions to help make my retreat a success. A few days prior to my arrival in Albuquerque, Chef and I had a final conference call where we pinned down a complete menu including entrees, sides, and beverages, and I completed payment. During the retreat, Chef Bobbi was phenomenal to have in my corner. With the exception of two individually-portioned meals, we opted to have our meals served homestyle. It was amazing! They say the best food is made with love, and you can taste this in every dish the Chef prepares. My retreat attendees raved about how delicious everything was, and I was very pleased with the service that we received. The menus were varied, the food was always hot and fresh, and the we looked forward to tasting everything every single time Chef popped by with our next catered meal. Because we had so many things included in our reservation over the course of those days, I'd like to say that we enjoyed a little of all of Chef Bobbi's best dishes. Favorites from our group included the smothered beef brisket, the baked macaroni and cheese, and the chicken lasagna. My personal favorite was the olive oil pasta -- it was a wonderful crowd pleaser and is vegetarian friendly. All in all, I found Chef Bobbi to be incredibly attentive, thoughtful, and professional. She was easy to work with, very communicative, and clearly takes great pride in what she does. Should I ever return to ABQ in the future, I will 100% retain her services again, and I certainly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a well-catered event. Such a huge disappointment. We were so excited for all things wedding. We are exactly 1 month out and Bobbi canceled on us. We hired her back in March because all of her food sounded so yummy! She was beyond helpful in the beginning answering all our questions and walking us through the process. My grandparents wanted to attend the tasting and we were informed we had to pay more. No problem as we thought we would have a full tasting. Now July 17th rolls around we have the tasting Bobbi shows up at the wrong address 10 minutes away..no big deal she shows up to the correct address a short while after. She runs in and washes her hands puts incredibly small containers down explains all dishes are "low on chicken" but will have more chicken at the event and then leaves. We were all confused as to why she was leaving a tasting. After she left we tasted the food it was all cold..not cold like it had been sitting and it was room temperature it was cold like just out of the refrigerator cold. The chicken taco bites she had said everyone chooses has very soggy wo ton wrappers, the olive oil pasta was decent, the "chicken" alfredo was congealed, the shrimp she brought as another alfredo option were boiled, the meat ravioli we requested was pasty cheese ravioli with a meat sauce, and the meatballs she brought were also very average. We requested a call with Bobbie that happened 7/20/2022 she was very friendly on the phone when we got into prices she heavily veered from what we had spoken about in the beginning. She had originally stated it would be about $14-$15 per person per plate now she was stating a plate of olive oil pasta would be $15.50, the chicken Alfredo would be $18 per person, and the sausage ravioli would be $22 per person...that comes out to $55.50 a person. For $55.50 a person you would think she would've stayed at the tasting so you could ask questions and get a better understanding of what to expect at the event. We were taken aback by this new information..we asked Bobbi if it would be alright if we had until Friday 7.22.2022 to discuss and make a decision she said that would be perfectly fine, and if we did not choose to continue that she would refund 50% of our deposit. About an hour after the phone call we received the Notice of Termination Letter below.. the only reason she canceled on us was beacuse we needed to discuss our food budget and before we even had a chance to do so she quit on us. I feel like she made a hard decision easier for us. The pictures below show she had said we could take until Friday to respond. I truly hope whoever is considering to use this "business" in the future finds this review and steers clear. read more
